Famous X Shooters and Fujifilm in Ads

It’s been a long time that I have not done a “famous X Shooter” roundup and a roundup of Fujifilm gear used in ads.

Today I am going to catch up with it by delivering a rather big one :).

Thanks to everybody who has passed what they’ve spotted around!

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga, a renowned American singer, recently starred in a T.V. commercial where she is seen using a Fujifilm X-T3 camera! The commercial is for Nurtec ODT, a migraine medicine. You can see the full ad on YouTube here (screenshot above)

Ron Gesser – website

Not sure if this is something you would like to put on your website but representing Team Canada, I have recently been chosen as one of the 10 finalists in the World Photographic Cup WPC Finalists 2023 Gallery | World Photographic Cup in the Natural Portrait Category. The photo of a woman from the Kutia Kondh tribe in Odisha in Central India was taken in Jan 2020 with a Fuji XT3 using the 50mm F2 at ISO 160 and at F2 (see attached certificate).

The World Photographic Cup is a Country competition where 32 countries enter 3 photos in each of the 8 categories (therefore 96 photos per category and a total of 768 photos in the competition).
Each country goes through their own process of selecting the photos that they will submit into the competition from multiple submissions from different photographers in their respective countries.
In Canada there were 3 elimination rounds before my photo was selected and entered into the World Photographic Cup. In January they announced that my photo was one of the Top 10 World finalists in the Natural Portrait Category.
On March 17th they will announce the order of the 10 finalists. So whether I come in 1st, 10th or somewhere in between this is an amazing accomplishment competing against some of the top photographers in 32 countries around the world, most of whom I am sure use full frame cameras.

I switched from Canon to Fuji and bought an XT2 in 2018 before my trip to Ethiopia upgraded in 2019 to the XT3 and just upgraded to an XT5 before my trip to Benin, West Africa.

This proves again that Fuji can compete on a World stage, and full frame is overrated :)

Piero Pazzi

The Guardian interviewed Piero Pazzi, the photographer behind the famous “Hot Priest calender” and there are some shocking revelations in there.

In fact, we now know that not all people photographed in the calendar are actually priests, and they are not even all from Italy.

And we also learn he uses Fujifilm cameras to take those pictures (although the article does not specify which one).

You can read the full story at The Guardian here.

Fujifilm spotted on set at the filming of Book of Boba Fett! Check out Disney’s Gallery Documentary about the show, 9:47 in, you can see a 50-140 on what looks like an X-H1 with a battery grip.

Financial Times – Sumaya Sadurni, photographer, 1989-2022 – Deeply emotional and committed to stories in Africa, Sadurni died in a car crash in northern Uganda (she also used Fujifilm gear for her work). Rest in peace Sumaya.

Hey, Johan from Sweden here.
Love your page and have no idea if this is of interest.
Swedens biggest photography magazine Kamera&Bild have an annual Grand Prix photography competition. 5 competitions in 5 different categories/magazine issues. Portrait, Shape, documentary, nature and Montage.
I was lucky land a spot in each category in each issue.
I won for best Nature photo shot on XT2 with 55-200mm
I also took bronze for best portrait with the XT2 and 55-200mm
4th in Shape, Documentary and Montage
This awarded me the most points at the end of the year giving me the title Photographer of the year 2021
4 shots were made on the XT2 and one with the XE1.

Very happy considering I was up against many professionals with everything from Hasselblads, Leicas & pro studios etc.

FR-readers Thomas wrote me this:

The German NGO Misereor just launched an advertising campaign, of which all pictures were shot with Fujifilm X-T2 und X-H1. Another proof, that  APS-Cs are big enough for outdoor posters.

The campaign (and all the background stories posted in www.Misereor.de/riodoce and the homepage https://www.misereor.de) revolves around a long time project of mine, which I did from 2019 to 2020 inBrazil (yes, with the pandemic raging): I wanted to document, how the state of the river Doce is, 5 years after the biggest environmental disaster in the history of the country. (The answer, by the way, until today it is devastating).

I attach the picture of the first poster of the campaign – a portrait done mit X-T2 und Fujinon 1,4 35mm and Godox- AD 200, (all photos ©Thomas Byczkowski).

Apparently, the Fuji X-T4 is stylish enough to be a gadget in a fashion commercial from Chanel.

Here’s a screen grab of a gear interview with Ashley Gilbertson on the VII website.

He prefers the X Pro 2 over the X Pro 3 because the screen gets in the way of his images. He uses a 35 F2 on one camera and the 23 1.4 on the other.

He also has an XT2 he doesn’t use anymore.

For in-depth personal projects he uses a GFX50R with 63mm lens.

The cameras are painted by his son.

Fuji X-T3 is still a workhorse of a camera. Today, I have two covers in the latest editions of Serbian largest weekly magazines. Keep up the great work and thank you for all your hard work for the Fuji community. The shot is taken with Fuji X-T3 and Fujinon 23mm f2 lens.

X-T4 Spotted in the Wyoming BDR Documentary
by Aaron

I know you love spotting Fuji’s in the wild, and though you’d like to know about some _really_ out in the wild! The Backcountry Discovery Route team released a documentary about their latest route, through Wyoming, and I spotted the team using X-T4’s.

Here is where they show the cameras.

The BDR’s are a series of trails for off road motorcycling. If you’re curious about the environment and punishment they put their cameras through the documentary has some footage of the cinematographers riding along with everyone else.
