SONY User Tries FUJIFILM for the First Time, Didn’t Read the Owners Manual and Why You Know Your Gear Better than “Pro” Reviewers

Sony vs Fujifilm

Manny Oritz (former Sony ambassador, who left the program to focus on his youtube channel and to be able to cover more products) tested his first Fujifilm camera, the Fujifilm X-T3 and he has lots of great things to say about it.

  • Very responsive
  • Great weather sealing
  • beautiful color science, much better than Sony A6500
  • XF56mmF1.2 is a fantastic lens
  • Lightroom RAW processing not optimal [FR-NOTE: after his video, Adobe just offered a solution with the “enhanced detail” feature.]
  • Eye-AF is good but it’s better on Sony [FR-NOTE: major eye-AF improvement is coming for X-T3 in April].
  • Definitely a camera he could add to his current Sony kit
  • X-T3 makes you want to go out and shoot
  • The Fujifilm X-T3 exceeded his expectations in the field

A fair and objective review… but there is one thing I want to highlight.

Lightroom Enhanced Details for Fujifilm X-Trans Files Tested – Fuji Users Beware, Wormy Artifacts Fixed?

Adobe & Fujifilm

Last week Adobe launched the new “enhance details” feature, which, according to Adobe, will improve details in your images by up to 30%!

The feature is also supposed to demosaic Fujifilm X-Trans images better, and we have a first feedback about it here.

The testing continues, and overall will can sum it up like this:

  • helps against wormy artifacts
  • slow and processor intensive, creates new DNG files, hence do not apply to many images, but better select only important images or images you want to print big

Now let’s get into the specific reviews.

First Looks at ADOBE’s New Enhance Details Feature for Sharper Fujifilm X-Trans files

Adobe Enhance Details

Earlier today Adobe released Camera Raw 11.2 with a new detail enhancement feature, which promises 30% improved details rendering for Bayer and also for Fujifilm X-Trans files.

To access the new feature, click on the image and select “Enhance Details“, click on OK and it’s done!

As to expect there are over 100 comments already in this FujiRumors article, with lots of feedback about Adobes improved engine.

In the comments on FujiRumors, you will find bug reports, comparison files on dropbox to download and more. So make sure to check the lively comment section in this article.

Overall initial feedback: there is an improvement indeed.

Hey Adobe, too many people switched to Capture One 12, hu?

Anyway, also Thomas tested the new enhance detail feature, and here are some excerpts:

  • creates artifact free image
  • it’s very processor intensive, hence slow. Use with fast computer [FR readers say around 10 seconds processing]
  • sharper and cleaner than Iridient X Transformer, especially when it comes to colour details. Edges are cleaner, too
  • Iridient X Transformer is still faster
  • good job at rendering X-Trans files
  • It’s an extra step, but quality wise, it is up there with the best.

Thomas also explains, why Adobe does not simply change their demosaicing for X-Trans.

fixing” the X-Trans issues would have required significantly changing the most vital part of the rendering process – the demosiacing – It would have required significant engineering effort to change it for X-Trans rendering and not break the backwards compatibility, and may not have been possible without affecting the way the system works.
