Fujifilm’s Move to 1-Inch Sensors: A Perfect Opportunity to Revive the X30, XQ2, and XF1?

Now we know it: for the first time Fujifilm will use a 1″ sensor on their cameras.

The 1″ sensor will be the core of the Fujifilm Half Frame digital camera.

This raises an interesting question: with Fujifilm now sourcing plenty of 1″ sensors from Sony, why not revive one of their lines that previously used a 2/3 sensor?

Imagine a successor to the Fujifilm X30, perhaps called the X40 or X50 (if it comes with the 5th generation processor).

Or how about an ultra-compact Fujifilm XQ2 successor, like an XQ3 or even XQ5?

What about the stylish Fujifilm XF1? Should that one get the 1″ sensor revival?

And probably many of you don’t know it…

…. but there is another X series camera with 2/3 sensor that is totally forgotten, the Fujifilm X-S1. Would you like a 1″ version of that?

Maybe this could be an opportunity for Fujifilm to breathe new life into these lines with a 1″ sensor upgrade.

What do you think? Would you be interested in seeing a 1″ version of these cameras? Let us know by voting in the poll below!

Fujifilm’s Half Frame Camera has a 1″ Sensor

Fujifilm will release definitely a unique camera in 2025: a digital half frame camera.

I guess we can imagine it as sort of the digital version of the (very successful) Pentax 17 half frame film camera.

And it will come with a sensor size that Fujifilm has so far never used on any of their cameras: a 1″ sensor!

I will personally hold on any judgment about this camera for now, because the concept of digital half frame camera is so unique, that I will keep my mind open for it.

Oh, and just to be clear: the image above is not a leaked image of the Fujifilm Half Frame camera, but just a quick rendering I made taking the Pentax 17 half frame film camera as a base for it.

Fujinon XF16-55mmF2.8 II Official Teaser and Size Comparison with XF16-55mmF2.8

Fujifilm has published a teaser for the upcoming “lightest red badge lens” in the Fujinon lineup.

FujiRumors readers know already since July 2024 that this is the Fujinon XF16-55mmF2.8 MKII.

And actually you know even more than that, because:

Now the teaser gives us some insights on its size, because it shows the shape of the original XF16-55mmF2.8 followed by the one of the new XF16-55mmF2.8.

Just keep in mind that these are only renderings. When I overlaid image of the original XF16-55mmF2.8 onto its own shape shown in the teaser, the sizes didn’t quite match up. The actual XF16-55mmF2.8 lens seems to be still slightly larger than what’s depicted in the teaser.

If that’s correct, then the new XF16-55mmF2.8 II should be even a tiny bit smaller compared to the original XF16-55mmF2.8 than what the teaser images would suggest.

Feel free to do your own comparisons and share them in the comments down below.

This is the Mysterious All-New Camera to be Launched by Fujifilm in 2025

Back in July we told you that Fujifilm will launch an all-new camera. A camera never rumored before and that will be the first of its kind for Fujifilm.

And recently we told you that it will come with a sensor size that Fujifilm has so far never used before and it’s scheduled for release in 2025.

Well, after making all mandatory and multiple checks, I now feel I can give you a 100% rocksolid update on this camera.

According to our trusted sources, Fujifilm is working on a Half-Frame digital camera.

Recently Pentax announced the half frame Pentax 17 film camera, so I guess we can imagine the new Fujifilm camera to be sort of the digital version of that.

The Pentax 17 half frame film camera is enjoying huge sales. So much so that Ricoh had to suspended sales for a while, is considered to increase prices and is also working on increasing production.

If our sources are accurate (and they are), then Fujifilm is now joining the half-frame market, but with a digital offering.

Feel free to let me know if you are intrigued by this camera.

The Future of Fujifilm’s Autofocus Could Be Revealed with the X-M5 on October 14

Fujifilm said they are aware of the “comments” of the Fujifilm community regarding the latest autofocus issues and they promised firmware updates to fix that.

The fix will come in November for their flagship Fujifilm X-H2s, X-H2 and GFX100 II cameras, but also other fifth generation cameras such as the X-T5, X-S20 and “more”  will get firmware updates this year, as Fujifilm officially said here.

Sure, it takes time. But to a certain degree I can understand that.

Fujifilm knows they have to get it right this time, so they’re likely testing the firmware more rigorously than ever, which is surely costing a lot of time and money.

But the big question is: how well will the autofocus firmware really work?

Well, maybe we might not have to wait until November to see these autofocus improvements in action.

In fact, we could get our answers as early as October 14 with the launch of the Fujifilm X-M5.

Why?

Well, Fujifilm has been aware of the autofocus issues for months now. They already began addressing them with a firmware update back in June. Since then, they’ve continued working on the improvements, so the firmware must have evolved significantly from the June version.

And I’d not be surprised if the first camera to actually incorporate the enhanced autofocus capabilities won’t be the X-H2s, X-H2 and GFX100II in November, but the Fujifilm X-M5 coming on October 14.

After all, why not equip the brand-new Fujifilm X-M5 with the most up-to-date firmware available, especially since it’s a fresh release that requires a new firmware anyway? And maybe that’s also  why Fujifilm has published a X-M5 teaser poster where they write big “fast autofocus“.

If that turns out to be the case, if the X-M5 is indeed the first camera to feature the new AF algorithm, then by October 14, we’ll already have a glimpse of how well the latest autofocus firmware performs.

I guess that’s one more excellent reason to follow the X Summit on October 14 at 9AM New York time.
