Fujifilm GFX100 Orders Triple Fujifilms’ Forecast and the GFX100 Stock and Shipping Status Update

I recently wrote an article on why I believe the Fujifilm GFX system has a glorious future ahead. You can read it here.

I mention that article, because in the comments a FR-reader said that pre-orders for the new GFX100 are strong:

Talking to a Fuji rep at a GFX100 demo and he said orders were triple that of forecasts

Another report from the Fujifilm GFX group says:

I got information, now. I have to wait GFX100 a month [in Japan]. If ordering now, have to wait 2 months. What a big mount of order.

From my own sources I can only confirm that pre-orders are stronger than expected.

If all this is correct, then you can expect delivery shortage.

Let’s look at the 3 major stores:

  • B&H Photo: first batch is shipping but BH has more pre-orders than stock, so they wait for more cameras to come from Japan
  • Adorama: It is listed as “On Backorder”. Our GFX group members contacted Adorama, who told them to expect shipping early July.
  • AmazonUS markes it available within 1 to 2 months.

Some lucky guys already got their Fujifilm GFX100 shipped, and are now very actively sharing impressions and samples at our Fujifilm GFX group.

Fujifilm Manager About Fujifilm GFX100 Pixel Shift Multishot, Full Frame Crop Mode with Faster Sensor Readout and More

A new edition of the Medium Format Magazine has just been released.

It’s packed with content of great contributors, like Jonas Rask, Ming Thein, Take Kayo and more.

This edition includes also an interview with Makoto Oishi, product planner for Fujifilm GFX100.

In this article I will highlight a few things the manager said about the Fujifilm GFX100. But there is definitely a lot more to read at the Medium Format Magazine.

If pixel shift multishot will come to the Fujifilm GFX100 will depend on customer demand

The manager bluffs. They know customers want it, and they are already working on it, as FujiRumors reported exclusively here.

They asked Makoto Oishi if there will be a “full-frame crop mode” with faster sensor readout for even faster AF, higher EVF refresh rates, higher burst rates and shorter blackout times. The manager diplomatically says:

We can’t answer. It’s confidential information.

No comment by the manager also when asked about the Fujifilm GFX50R and 50S successors.

This and more can be read at the Medium Format Magazine, that goes well beyond the interview with the manager.

Fujifilm X-Pro3 Coming with Tilt Screen

Fujifilm X-Pro3

If you are following me on Instagram, you will already know I am passing my holiday with SonyAlphaRumors in Croatia.

But if you think I am going to have a break from the rumors and the blogging, then you are terribly wrong. Just like Fuji’s new slogan, also FujiRumors Never Stops.

So what I am hearing today?

Well, I am hearing, that the Fujiiflm X-Pro3 will have a tilt screen.

Personally I am surprised, because Fujifilm has repeatedly said over the years, that a tilt screen does not fit with their philosophy for Fujifilm’s X series rangefinder line (X-Pro, X100 and X-E).

I will try to confirm this rumor as soon as possible, so stay tuned.

Fujifilm Manager Says Fujifilm GFX 100 Enjoys Strong Pre-Orders and Video RAW Recording May Come via Firmware Update

Indie Shooter interviewed Fujifilm manager Michael Bulbenko at CineGear 2019. Above the video and down below the main takes:

  • true 16 bit sensor
  • ISO 6400 is really really good
  • 14 stops dynamic range
  • you get 5 stops IBIS also with third party lenses
  • IBIS does not crop in the sensor
  • 4:2:2 via external monitor, but engineers have not yet decided if they are going to implement RAW or not. They are working on it and it would be simple matter of firmware udpate. It is something Fujifilm is looking into
  • PL to G mount adapter available by Alpa, Kipon and Fotodiox is working on it
  • pre-orders are piling up fast

Fujifilm GFX 100 Pixel Shift Multishot Just a Matter of Time, says Trusted Source

Fujifilm GFX100 Pixel Shift

Back in October 2018, I told you the Fujifilm GFX100 will have pixel shift multishot. However, in March 2019 here, I got an update from a source, that pixel shift multishot won’t be ready for launch.

I have asked sources about this feature again, and they told me it is high on Fuji’s To Do list, but it will be only released once working perfectly.

I asked for a time frame, but the source could not give it to me. All it said is that it’s “just a matter of time“.

Pixel shift multishot is easier to achieve with Bayer CFA than with X-Trans CFA, which is why the Fujifilm X-H1 still does not have it, and I would not be surprised to see it coming first to the Fujifilm GFX100.

FYI: Another advantage of Bayer, is that also the electronic image stabilization (available in Fujifilm X-T100) is easier to achieve than with Bayer.

On the other hand, the recently awarded X-Trans sensor, has other advantages. We have written about the Pros and Cons of Bayer vs X-Trans here.

A bit out of topic, but Google just shared a white paper and video explaining their multi-frame super resolution feature that is what powers the Pixels’s night mode for example.
A good reminder that technology is not waiting and will always continue, and that Fujifilm should take note of it!
