Fujifilm X-T2, X-T20 and GFX 50S Firmware Update on Thursday, November 30

Fujifilm will update the Fujifilm X-T2, X-T20 and GFX 50s on November 30 (Thursday).

List of improvements:

Fujifilm Netherlands recently said here that the Fujifilm X-T20 firmware update has been postponed. But I guess Fujifilm was able to fix all issues and is ready to release it on time. You see, even Fujifilm itself can share wrong rumors now and then ;) .

FujiRumors Recommends

  1. Update your camera in any case, even if you do not need the features/improvements that come with this specific firmware update. Fujifilm often implements “undocumented fixes“, which can be as small as a typo in the menu, but also more significant bug fixes and improvements.
  2. To be 100% safe, though, do not update your camera on the same day you need your camera for a paid assignment. In very rare cases, firmware updates can introduce new bugs. If you need your camera on a paid job, wait a few days, check back fujirumors.com to see if there are some bugs with the new firmware in the following days, and if there are no reports, update your camera. But with that said, in 99% of the cases a new firmware will only improve things, and not make them worst. So at the end, always update.

Profoto Air Remote Trigger for Fujifilm to be Released December 18

Profoto Fujifilm Support

  • September 2016 here: a trusted source told us that Profoto will support Fujifilm in 2017
  • September 2017 here: Fujifilm and Profoto announced cooperation to bring TTL and HSS to the Fuji system. Shortly after, Profoto officially said on Instagram that the Profoto A1 is “coming soon”.

According to Patrick La Roque here, the Fujifilm version of the Air Remote Trigger will be released December 18.

The A1 doesn’t do TTL with Fuji you say? Now it does: the Fujifilm version of the Air Remote trigger is a reality. Not out yet (damn it) but December 18 has been set as the official release date.”

The Fuji version of the Profoto Air TTL is available to some for testing. Check out the video at Ferry Knijn Fotografie Youtube, which has been shared 3 days ago, and shows the Profoto trigger working just fine on the Fujifilm GFX.

Thanks to the two FR-readers for the links ;)

Adorama has a dedicated Profoto A1 presentation page here.

As reported here, Elinchrom triggers for Fujifilm should come in 2018.

Nokishita believes that, due to the button arrangement, it could be the Fujifilm X-A5, a camera rumored here on FujiRumors.

As we reported here, there are totally 3 cameras registered by Fujifilm and that should come next (meaning 2018). One is the Fujifilm X-T2S IBIS camera, scheduled to hit the market in the first half of 2018. The Fujifilm X-A5 is also sure to come. There is one more camera left, and it should be either the Fujifilm X-T100 or the Fujifilm X80. But remember that Fujifilm is having issues with the X80 and the whole project has been delayed.

Sony’s 100 Megapixel Medium Format Sensor – for Fujifilm GFX100S – will Shoot 4K and 8K. Ready in 2018

Fujifilm GFX100S

Back in March and April 2017, Sony officially presented to the world their future medium format sensors. There were three sensors, but relevant for Fuji Medium Format users, is the IMX461, a new 100 Megapixel 44x33mm medium format back illuminated sensor that will be ready for 2018.

Now more details have been disclosed by Sony about the next generation 44×33 MF sensor, which will very likely be the core of the new Fujifilm GFX100S.

Sony says it will be capable of 4K video at 30fps and 8K video at 18fps. It remains to see how much heat will be generated by the sensor/processor and if the Fujifilm GFX100S body can properly dissipate it.

And hopefully Fuji’s processor will be powerful enough to process the huge amount of data properly.

So what can we expect from the Fujifilm GFX100S?

  • 100 Megapixel
  • BSI sensor
  • 4K (maybe even 8K) video
  • less moiré due to the higher megapixel count
  • sharper than Japanese steel*
  • faster sensor readout allows…
  • … faster AF speed
  • … faster continous shooting
  • … better EVF refresh rate

*Fujifilm said that the GF lenses are designed to support 100MP resolution… so, even if it’s hard to believe given how sharp the GFX files already are, the GF lenses currently underperform on the GFX 50S.

The fact that the sensor will be ready for 2018, does not necessarily mean that the Fujifilm GFX100S will also hit the market in 2018.

Fujifilm Registerd Another WiFi Camera (Now Totally 3)

Fujifilm registered another camera with bluetooth. This time the code name is FF170004 (WiFi only).

Just recently, they registered camera FF170003 here and other two cameras (FF170001 and FF170011) back in August.

The FF170001 was probably the Fujifilm X-E3, so we now have 3 registered Fujifilm cameras with bluetooth, that have not yet been announced.

  • FF170003 (WiFi + Bluetooth)
  • FF170004 (WiFi only)
  • FF170011 (WiFi + Bluetooth)

My guess is that it could be the Fujifilm X-A5, the X-T100 and the X-T2S. The X80 is also an option, but not sure if it will sport the X-TransIII sensor, as reported here.
