Organic Sensor: On Feb.1, Panasonic will talk about an Ultra Low Noise 120dB+ (!!) Dynamic Range organic sensor!

 photo Organic Sensor_zps5rutpzz5.png

_ _ _

Back in June 2013, Panasonic & Fujfilm announced, that they were developing an organic CMOS sensor, which, amongst the others should be capable of:

– industry’s highest dynamic range of 88dB
– 1.2 times higher sensitivity than conventional sensors to capture clear images even in low light
– range of incident angle expanded to 60 degrees for faithful color reproduction

But since then, we didn’t hear anything about this almost mythical organic sensor. The last thing I’ve heard from sources, was that Fujifilm and Panasonic were having problems due to too much heat being generated and high battery drain. And 43rumors said the sensor is stil 2 or 3 years to go.

Will it ever become true? I don’t know. Many of us also started thinking, that Fuji and Panasonic completely dropped its development… but maybe that’s not the case.

In fact, on February 1st, at the 2016 IEEE International solid-state circuits conference, Panasonic is giving a talk about an “over 120dB Dynamic Range Ultra Low Noise Organic CMOS sensor”.

So, if this is the development of the same organic sensor that Fuji & Panasonic announced back in 2013, then it means that not only they didn’t drop plans on it, but they were even able to improve its performance, boosting its dynamic range from amazing 88dB to astonishing 120dB+.

I know many of us just started salivating, but we better be careful with this information. It could still be a pretty long way off, before we’ll see it implemented in a Fuji/Panasonic camera (if ever). But in any case, on the 1st of February, we should all listen carefully at what Panasonic has to tell us.

thx to the FR-reader for the link :)

Fujifilm Medium Format Rumor: Here is the answer to one of the 7 Crucial MF Questions ! (Source Right in the Past).

 photo GGF_zps4jep7lta.png

The FUJIFILM GF670

Today we might have found the answer to the 2nd most voted of our 7 crucial Medium Format questions:

According to a source, who was right in the past (thanks), Fujifilm is right now putting lots of R&D into creating a complete new interchangeable lenses Medium Format camera system (so no fixed lens MF).

Of course, take the grain of salt. This is still Not really the Medium Format Rumor Breakthrough we are waiting for, since, until now, no trusted source confirmed that Fuji is really working on it!

And while I’m dazzled by this rumor, I know that a humble enthusiast photographer like me is probably not the target of such a camera, and it would be out of my budget anyway (not even tax deduction for teachers buying cameras :( ).

But I believe that an interchangeable lenses Medium Format Fuji could find its niche amongst PRO’s and turn out to be a profitable business for Fujifilm.

Now, I have no idea how much this camera would cost, but if it was priced somewhere between the Pentax 645D and the Pentax 645Z digital MF cameras, then the MF-Fuji might even become Fujifilm’s new golden egg laying goose (this, and the Hello Kitty Instax, of course :) ).

It’s hard to get on MF rumors, really hard… but it’s not a Mission Impossible. So stay tuned on FR via Facebook, RSS-feed and Twitter,

I’ll try to get a confirmation by trusted sources ASAP… since then, take the grain of salt, and then start dreaming :)

Coming Soon: Fuji X-series compatible version of the Metz 44 AF-1 Flash with on camera TTL capability – New Source

 photo dedee_zpskteeggkw.jpg

Will the current Metz 44 AF-1 Flash get an update very soon?

_ _ _

According to a New Source, Metz will very soon announce a Fuji X-series compatible version of its Metz 44 AF-1 Flash with on camera TTL capability (and maybe also slave function). The source says, that the guide number will remain the same (44), but there will be the addition of a multi-level LED.

Currently the Metz 44 AF-1 is available for the Nikon/Fuji hybrids, like the S series.

The first X-series compatible Metz flash is the Metz 26 AF-1 (specs & price), anncounced back in October 2014 and which, according to BHphoto here, should be available on December 22.

X-Pro2: Magnum Photos confirms 15th of January Announcement :: 1/250 flash sync speed + more specs leaking (AS)

 photo PRO2 BELIEVE_zps2ojk1kzq.jpg

First off: take the grain of salt.

Here is a list of specs send to me by an anonmyous source (thanks). The specs in green are those already rumored previously here on FR & confirmed by this source, while the specs in red are new.

  • 24MP
  • dual SD
  • more than 200 AF points (2/3 are PDAF)
  • Hybrid Viewfinder as X100T
  • 1/8000 shutter speed
  • 1/250 flash sync speed
  • no tilt LCD
  • ISO200-12800

The announcement:

The upcoming X-Pro2 is very likely the real reason behind the huge rebates on basically All X-gear. The savings go up to $900LIST OF SAVINGS HERE… and we now have one more confirmation, that the X-Pro2 is about to come.

After debunking fake rumors (not shared here on FR), that the X-Pro2 will be announced at CES, our sources said back in October here, that the X-Pro2 will be announced on January 15. This date (Janaury 15) has now been confirmed, in public, by Magnum Photos. After leaking two X-Pro2 images, Magnum justifies the removal of the photographs as follows:

Embargo till Jan. 15 2016 due to contract with the camera manufacturer“.
