Thanks to our fantastic sources (THANKS!!!) we are now able to share additional details of the next XF lens that Fujifilm will launch.
Fujinon XF16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 R LM WR
A couple of things to note here.
this lens will replace the XF18-55mmF2.8-4 R LM OIS as the standard kit lens
f/4.8 instead of f/4 on the long end
it keeps the linear motor (also XF18-55 has it)
it has still an aperture ring
it adds weather sealing (XF18-55 has not)
it has no OIS (XF18-55 has OIS)
very likely it will be able to resolve all 40MP of new Fujifilm cameras (the XF18-55 can not), giving us less range on the long end (50 instead of 55) but at the same time also more crop capabilities
We also asked you guys which cameras you think will come (you voted here), and judging by the results, I can say that you didn’t see that one coming.
In fact, according to our trusted sources, the next mirrorless interchangeable lens camera that Fujifilm will launch is the Fujifilm GFX100S II.
Now you know the true reasons why Fujifilm is selling the Fujifilm GFX100S at a massive discount.
Now, there was the speculation out there that Fujifilm had merged the GFX100 and GFX100S into one single camera line, the GFX100II.
But nope, that’s not the case. And it comes from multiple trusted sources, which means it is 100% accurate and I will shut down FujiRumors forever if it does not become true.
And to be sure there are no misunderstandings, here a few things that must be clear:
the GFX100SII is the next mirrorless interchangeable lens camera to come
yes, it could be also the next Fujifilm camera to come overall, but I have no idea if maybe the X100R will come before the GFX100SII
But my work is far from done.
We might know two cameras that come, but there will be three or more coming in the first months of 2024.
So if neither the X100V successor nor the GFX100SII is the camera you were waiting for, then don’t worry, because we will get even more soon.
Now, I can see the “rumors” about the Fujifilm GFX100R, Fujifilm X-Pro4, Fujifilm X-E5, Fujifilm X-T6, Fujifilm X-T40, Fujifilm X80, Fujifilm X-H3, Fujifilm X-H3S and more pop up. But those “rumors” appeared also ahead of the X Summit on May 24 and September 12, and of course none (not a single one!!!) of them materialized. But I guess misleading readers for traffic and good SEO is a great deal for them.
Here on FujiRumors we don’t mislead you with fake rumors.
Here we will tell you the real deal, and you will know it all very soon (promised!!!).
In fact, according to our trusted sources, the XF18-55 replacement will be an XF16-50mm lens.
I know what you think.
You think “that sounds more like the replacement to the Fujinon XC 16-50mm“.
But no, it’s not, because the replacement to the Fujinon XC16-50mm is already out and it’s this lens here.
And more importantly, the XF18-55mm production will be stopped once the XF16-50mm is out, making the 16-50mm effectively the replacement to the XF18-55mm as the main kit lens.
Personally I am happy to see it going a bit wider (16mm vs 18mm).
And while some might not be happy about the slightly shorter long end, consider that the XF18-55 is not a lens capable, wide open, to resolve all 40MP of the latest APS-C X series cameras. If the replacement, the XF16-50mm, turns out to be sensibly sharper than the 18-55, then you might lose some zoom range on the long end, but you’ll be able to compensate in part for that by being able to crop in more and still get a nice clean, sharp image.
I have no solid information on the aperture range.
As soon as I have more details on this lens (but also other upcoming XF lenses), I will inform you here on FujiRumors.
