DISCONTINUED: Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 R APD

XF56mmF1.2 R vs XF56mmF1.2 R APD

The Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 R APD is starting to get marked at discounted at stores in Japan as reported by Asobinet here.

This does not come surprising, and here is why.

When Fujifilm launched the original Fujinon XF56mm f/1.2 R (a lens I own too), one of the things that photographers pointed out, is that they would have loved an even smoother and creamier bokeh.

As an answer to this, Fujifilm launched the Fujinon XF56mm f/1.2 R APD with an apodization filter for super smooth bokeh.

But while it delivered buttery smooth bokeh, it had also some shortcomings:

  • reduced brightness between f/1.2 and f/5.6 (for example f/1.2 results in an effective lens speed of f/1.7)
  • negative impact on autofocus
  • more expensive

For a full comparison between the original XF56mmF1.2 R and the XF56mmF1.2 R APD check out this article.

The New XF56mmF1.2 R WR

There is a third 56mm lens from Fuji, the newer Fujinon XF 56mmF1.2 R WR.

Thanks to its new design, it delivers super smooth bokeh without the need of an APD filter, and hence avoids the shortcomings related to the use of an APD filter (reduced brightness, etc).

With the new XF56mmF1.2 R WR, there is no need anymore for Fujifilm to keep the XF56mmF1.2 R and its APD clone in production, so it does not come surprising that the APD version is slowly disappearing from stores (the non-APD version is starting to get marked as discontinued since January 2023 already).

The Future Sigma and Tamron APS-C lenses in Patents – Vote the Lens You’d Like to Get

In July we wrote a very popular article about Fujifilm’s future based on patents Fuji has filed.

And of course not only Fujifilm is filing all sorts of patents. Also other brands do.

So out of curiosity I’ve looked back into which APS-C lenses Sigma and Tamron have patented.

Patented APS-C lenses by Sigma and Tamron

Which of the ones above would you like to see become real? Vote below.

But always keep in mind: it’s not said that patents will materialize into a real product, as we explained more precisely here.

Fujifilm GFX100S II Coming First Months of 2024: Speculating about Differences to GFX100 II

Fujifilm GFX100SII
Speculated Specs and Questions

We recently told you that the Fujifilm GFX100S II will come in the first months 2024.

So the question now is: what could be the differences or similarities between the Fujifilm GFX100S II and the Fujifilm GFX100 II?

To be clear: these are just speculations, not rumors.

  • lower price than GFX100II
  • lower EVF resolution
  • still no battery grip option
  • lower bursts rates than GFX100II
  • smaller body
  • a bit inferior video specs (due to smaller body and not optimal heat dissipation)
  • no full size HDMI and Ethernet port

I think the list above makes a whole lot of sense. But now it gets tougher and the question are:

  • will the GFX100 II have the new optimized 100MP sensor (improved readout circuits, microlenses etc) or will it use the older non-optimized 100MP sensor to keep price as low as possible?
  • will it have only SD-card slots or also a CFexpress card slot?
  • will it offer Frame.io integration in camera body or not?

And last but not least (and maybe most importantly):

  • will the GFX100S II still have the PSAM layout or will retro dials return on GFX with the GFX100S II?

These are just some of my personal non-rumor based speculations and questions. Feel free to add yours in the comments below.

As usual, all the answers will follow on FujiRumors.com.

RUMOR: Fujifilm Instax Mini 99 Coming with New Effects

The ways of the rumors never cease to surprise me, and this one definitely took a unique path I could have never have imagined. Huge thanks to the source for letting me know.

But for you, my fellow Fuji X lovers, the way of the rumor is irrelevant. What matters is the rumor itself.

And the rumor is, that Fujifilm will launch the Fujifilm Instax Mini 99.

It will come with some sort of “filter” that will create unique color and light combination effects never experienced before on any Instax camera such as light bleed effect, green hue effect, red light flare, purple hue and more.

Fujifilm really keeps to come up with new ideas on how to keep the Instax momentum alive.

Thanks again to the source for this rumor.
