Firmware Suggestions, Lens Wishes and More – FR-readers Wishlist Corner
I get many emails from FR-readers with wishes about all possible things regarding the Fujifilm system.
Today I decided to catch up with and share some of those wishes.
This time we don’t share camera related wishes, but only lens, firmware and more, as otherwise there would be simply just too much to cover and discuss at once. An additional wishlist roundup with even more wishes will follow later on.

Sigma i-series lenses are very beautifully crafted lenses that would compliment well with Fujifilm cameras. Could you launch a poll on FujiRumors to see if there would be demand among the Fujifilm community for such lenses?

What I would like to see are advanced f4.0/f5.6 tele primes. My brother shoots Nikon, and uses their excellent Nikkor 300 mm f4.0 diffractive optics (Fresnel) lens weighing 755 grams on his D55 for bird and wildlife photography. Nikon also makes a 500 mm f5.6 using the same technology. This is the kind of lens I would like to see Fuji produce – not the 200 mm f2.0 that nobody can afford. This requires a change of mindset – advanced engineering plastics (for light weight and improved thermal performance), advanced optics, unrelenting efforts at weight reduction.

Wishes for X-H2/X-H2s
- the ability to turn off expanded ISO to make switching ISO faster
- the ability to switch between 1/3rd stop increments and 1/2 for aperture, shutter, and iso. This is a feature on all Canon cameras and allows far more rapid changes with the dial at 1/2 stop.
- The ability to include ISO on the unused dial when using an aperture ring lens. It feels terrible to have to do a multi step process to change ISO when a dial is completely unused. Notably GFX has something like this feature (you use the click in on the dial to switch, which the X-H2 doesn’t have) – NOTE: this wish was expressed before the latest X-H2/S firmware
- Personally, I’d love to be able to change to “Nikon style” iso changing where you hold the iso button and move a wheel instead of multi-tap. It’s much faster!
- Everybody is asking for autofocus improvements, which is a bit silly since this is such a huge improvement from the X-T4. I will say the way we currently switch between face/animal/train/etc is a bit too involved/silly.
- Auto ISO where you can select not just “auto” that does 1/focal length for the minimum, but 1/ 2x focal length too for greater stopping power. This is also on other similar cameras.
- this is a stretch, but Canon allows multiple back button focus with different focus modes and settings for each button. Would be nice!
Honestly if they do none of these I still love my camera. I think making a camera with controls so much more similar to Canon/Nikon has opened Fuji up for criticism where their system’s controls are less flexible/evolved. But in the end it has Fuji colors, incredible image quality, Fuji lenses, and the Fuji “soul,” and so I’m happy.

I thought it would be a good topic of discussion in Fuji rumors, if you could open a post about Fujifilm silver halide collection of papers and what labs are using it. It’s very difficult to find them, and when you find one lab that uses them usually they offer only one of the large collection Fuji offers in the dedicated page “make it an original”. I believe we users could help each other sharing experiences in different countries about, and finding online labs that are able to send by mail. What do you think?. Please consider opening a post about the matter.

I’ve designed a mockup of the Movie Optimized User Interface Menu concept. If interested, I will be happy to design other UI Menu screens to allow you to write a new article about the need for a modern minimal graphic upgrade for the Fujifilm X Cameras.

I love my 80mm macro lens, and hope that Fuji take macro photography seriously enough to keep offering more on this front. Apparently during CoVid lockdown, a lot of people went down the Mac route as witnessed through increase in sales of macro lenses across the brands. What I wold love is for Fuji to follow the recent Olympus OM1 development and build some software for in-camera stacking. This I believe would bring a lot more people to the joys of intimate nature photography, through being able to get the depth of field that alludes us when we don’t stack ….and manual stacking is a bit of an off-putting chore.

Does it make sense if we ask Fuji to provide not only a 16 sub-pixel shift (true color) but also a much quicker 4 full pixel shift.
Both should give us an approx. 400M, but the 4 shift might be less disturbed by movement in the scene (4x faster). And would provide no worse color accuracy than a standard image.

With the shift lens on the horizon. don’t you think Fujifilm shouldn’t improve their electronic levels? as an architecture photographer i find them much too imprecise. at least there should be a possibility to fine tune them or make them more sensible…

Hi Patrick,
I’d like to share my experience with FPS with you. I switched from Nikon to to Fuji when they came with the GFX50s. I now have a GFX100s + 5 lenses and an X-system with 2 bodies + 5 lenses. A few weeks ago my GFX and 110mm got some damage, so it was time to find out how professional Fuji FPS program really is.
Reporting a repair is easy and straightforward, they send you a UPS-label so you can make arrangements online or by phone for a pickup, or you deliver it to a UPS service partner nearby. So far so good.
But after my equipment had arrived in Germany it took a FULL WEEK for Fuji to send me a loaner body & lens, that’s too long for a pro like myself. Canon and Nikon in The Netherlands do a much much better job, call them and you can usually jump into your car and go pick up a loaner right away.
That’s not all… I was sent a GFX100 (no ’s’) which is fine but the box contained NO VIEWFINDER and ONLY ONE (1)LOUSY BATTERY – which came completely FLAT by the way, 0% charge. I usually shoot tethered and my old GFX50s went through batteries like crazy, 2-3 hours at most. So I’m not very impressed with Fuji’s so-called ‘Pro’ Service. Thank god I have a fantastic dealer (Calumet Rotterdam) that is always going the extra mile to help me out with equipment, either rental or even brand new.
I’m going to file a complaint so Fuji can improve on their FPS program but I’d like to hear other peoples stories. Perhaps you could do an article and a poll?) on Fujirumors? Or I could do a guest post if you like. Let me know, keep up the good work!
