Fujifilm 2024: A Look Ahead Between Rumors and Speculations (X-Pro4, X100R, X-E5, X-T40, New XF Lenses, GFX Future)

Share

2023 is Done

We just told you that there will be no more Fujifilm announcements in 2023.

And since in terms of new gear we are done for this year, lots of people started asking me what is coming in 2024.

Now, I am working on it, and we have shared already something.

For example we told you that the next XF lens to come is the replacement of this lens here.

More rumors will follow.

But as you know, on FujiRumors we will not make up a single rumor just to make traffic, nor share anonymous rumors we receive in which I don’t trust.

We prefer to share less rumors, generate less traffic, make less money, and value your time with less, but accurate rumors.

But until more rumors drop, I thought we could also make one single article where we talk about the current state of the rumors and also make speculation on what could or we would like to come in 2024.

2024 – A Look Into the Future

In their last X summit, the Japanese Fujifilm manager said:

Since this year [2023] is a GFX year, I would like to share with you some new from G mount lenses

So what, could 2024 be an X series year?

Let’s hope so, because while in 2023 we got a stellar new GFX camera and these 3 GF lenses, as far as X series goes we only got one X series camera only and one XF lens.

Fujifilm needs to do something about it in 2024. And I would not be surprised if 2024 would become another huge X series year as 2022 was, when Fujifilm launched these 3 cameras and these 4 X mount lenses.

So let’s risk a look into 2024.

CONFIRMED RUMORS

  • The Next Fujinon XF Lens

It’s sure, the next XF lens that Fujifilm will launch is the replacement of this lens here.

We don’t know when, but given that nothing else will come in 2023, it has to be 2024.

  • Fujifilm X100V Successor

One of the rumor fronts we are working on are of course the X100V successor rumors, which you guys predicted to be called X100R, where “R” stands for “Roku” (“six” in Japanese).

But beyond name speculations, we already shared first tidbits about the Fujifilm X100V successor.

We are working on (a lot more) X100V successor specs. Expect updates on FujiRumors.

CAMERAS THAT FUJIFILM SAID/HINTED WILL COME
(at some point, not necessarily in 2024)

Back in 2022, Fujifilm quite rather clearly said which camera lines will continue in future (and which one not).

And out of all the cameras they said will continue to be developed, the following ones are still waiting for a refresh:

  • Fujifilm X-Pro4
That’s probably the camera I get asked about most. As you can imagine I am working on it. So far I got only whispers and hints, that will hopefully turn into more solid rumors soon that I can share with you.
  • Fujifilm X-E5
Fujifilm said in 2022 the X-E line will continue and they said also very recently that a Fujifilm X-E5 is not “forgotten”. So we can hope for it to come, although, just as with the X-Pro4, so far I don’t have solid rumors about it

I believe that either one of them would potentially be a realistic option for 2024, but I want to stress that this is my believe, not a rumor.

  • Fujifilm X-T40
Of course Fuji intents to continue also this line, since it is pretty successful. Although so far the X-S20 is doing a great job in closing the entry-level gap in the X lineup and an X-T40 is not the most urgent camera to release. Hence, it will certainly not come in 2023, as many expected. But also in this case I am still working on more solid rumors.

But will all these three lines really continue? And will they all come in 2024? And if so, when will they drop?

The answers will follow on FujiRumors.

THE FORGOTTEN CAMERA

  • Fujifilm X80/XF20

If done properly, these could be wonderful cameras that would gain lots of love and a huge fellowship. However, Fujifilm hasn’t refreshed those camera lines (X70/XF10) in a long time. That’s why I am very pessimistic about ever seeing a Fujifilm X80 or XF20. But if any source out there can give me a reason to hope, feel free to contact me.

THE RIDDLE CAMERAS

  • Fujifilm GFX100SII

When Tony Northup shared his speculation that Fujifilm did merge the GFX100S and GFX100 line into a single camera, the GFX100II, many agreed with his speculation. This is a theory that makes a whole lot of sense to me. But nothing is sure until our sources tell it to us. And I am confident that soon I will be able to give you the answer on this one, as I made it one of my top priorities to find it out.

  • GFX50R Successor

There are two statements made by Fujifilm managers that I would like to highlight regarding the Fujifilm GFX50R successor

This manager said that the goal of GFX50R was to make GFX system more compact. Now with the GFX100S out too, Fujifilm does see “less need for something even more compact [than GFX100S]
This manager said he would like the GFX50R to evolve.

The second, more optimistic statement, was clearly more of a wish expressed by the design manager. Whereas the first statement seemed to be less of a wish, but more of a believe inside the company that there is no more need for the GFX-R line.

What I think we can say, is that the GFX50R line does not seem to be a priority for Fujifilm. If that means it will take long to get a successor or if it will simply never comes remains to be seen.

Given the circumstances (a likely more X series centric 2024) and Fujifilm manager statements (“we see less need for a the GFX-R line“), I would not be surprised if not even in 2024 we would get a new GFX-R.

It’s a shame. It’s a pity. But it’s probably the camera line I am most pessimistic about for 2024. And you bet I hope to be terribly wrong in my impression (not rumor).

THE DIFFICULT ONES

Now, thanks to our sources we were able to tell you what the next XF lens will be.

But 2024 needs to deliver way more than that.

The problem is: it’s very difficult to get on rumors regarding future X mount lenses. But I will keep working on it and I hope I will be able to share something with you, especially considering that Fujifilm has not updated the roadmap since May 2022.

The only hint Fujifilm gave us recently was, when in an interview with DPReview they said:

  • Fujifilm is adding focus for sports and wildlife, as Fujifilm is not yet known for that.
  • X-H2S is oriented towards that segment and “in terms of lenses, we’re also introducing more longer lenses”
  • we will continue to cultivate [the sports and wildlife segment]

So, telephoto lenses seem to something Fujifilm is considering.

But until now all we have are wishes and hopes. And you guys have a pretty clear idea on what the priorities should be.

THE BONUS

Kaizen!

I want, I require, I order Fujifilm to give me all the new goodness the GFX100II incorporates also to my Fujifilm X-T5 and also to X-H2, X-H2S and X-S20.

Reala Ace, touch to track in video, waveforms, vectorscopes and more (anamorphic mode for example).

And I also want the full auto subject detection feature of the X-S20 on all other 5th generation cameras, and we already showed Fujifilm how they could implement it on other cameras.

Do this Fujifilm. Trust me. Just do it.
