Fujifilm X-T3 vs Sony A7III

The Fujifilm X-T3 has great video specs, that put it at the very top of the mirrorless cameras for shooting videos.

And also when it comes to dynamic range and high ISO, the Fujifilm X-T3 performs admirably. In fact, the Fujifilm X-T3 has better dynamic range when shooting video than the full frame Sony A7sII, as Cinema5D measured here.

Also, as video-guy Jordan from DPRTV said in the X-T3 review we shared here, that the X-T3 colors and skin tones are just something easy to fall in love with.

Now also LensProToGo published his Fujifilm X-T3 video high ISO and video exposure recovery tests. You can see it down below.

I have also added the same test he did for the Sony A7III, so you guys can compare them. Overall, the Fujifilm X-T3 keeps up greatly against its full frame competitor.

Video Performance Comparison

Fujifilm X-T3 ISO test

  • 640 ISO:  base ISO
  • 1600 ISO: still clean image
  • 3200 ISO: still no color noise
  • 6400 ISO: still no color noise, a little bit of shift of green tint
  • 12800 ISO: still no color noise and clean image, still usable

Sony A7III ISO test

  • 800 ISO: base ISO
  • 1600 ISO: pretty solid
  • 3200 ISO: starting to get a bit more noise, but color noise still well controlled
  • 6400 ISO: a bit more noise, but not too much color shift
  • 12800 ISO: starting too see more green and magenta color noise
  • 25600 ISO: similar to 12800, and usuable with some noise reduction applied
  • 56200 ISO: starts to become unusable with lots of color noise

Fujifilm X-T3 Shadow Exposure Recovery

  • 1 stops underexposure recovery: no problem
  • 2 stops underexposure recovery: we still get a lot of the details back
  • 3 stops underexposure recovery: little bit green color shift in shadow area, but still able to recover lots of details and still very usable
  • 4 stops underexposure recovery: starting to get unusable, lots of noise, bad green shift
  • 5 stops underexposure recovery: unusable

Sony A7III Shadow Exposure Recovery

  • 1 stops underexposure recovery: no problem
  • 2 stops underexposure recovery: already starting to get magenta color shift, but able to recover all of it
  • 3 stops underexposure recovery: even more magenta shift, with lots of noise, not able to bring it back
  • 4 stops underexposure recovery: unsuable
  • 5 stops underexposure recovery: unsuable

Fujifilm X-T3 Highlight Exposure Recovery

  • 1 stops overexposure recovery: no probem
  • 2 stops overexposure recovery:  definitely able to bring all details and information back
  • 3 stops overexposure recovery: staring to lose a little bit of details in highlights, but still able to get back little bit of details from blown out areas
  • 4 stops overexposure recovery: falls apart, unrecoverable
  • 5 stops overexposure recovery: unusable

Sony A7III Highlight Exposure Recovery

  • 1 stops overexposure recovery: looks solid
  • 2 stops overexposure recovery: details in highlight can be brought back
  • 3 stops overexposure recovery: still able to bring back all details in highlights
  • 4 stops overexposure recovery: losing a lot of details, not able to bring back lots of details
  • 5 stops overexposure recovery: completely unusable
