Fujifilm X-H1 IBIS Camera Will Have Better Hand Grip Compared to X-T2

Fujifilm X-T2s - the Successor of the Fujifilm X-T2

Fujifilm X-T2S

UPDATE: Fujifilm changed the name from X-T2s to X-H1. All rumored specs remain the same

Here is a little Fujifilm X-T2S update… and I guess it comes not really surprising for most of you guys.

You know that the Fujifilm X-T2S will be Fuji’s first (actually second) camera with in body image stabilization. I assume it will keep the design philosophy of the X-T line, but of course there will be some changes, in order to accommodate the IBIS mechanism and also to improve usability when shooting videos.

I hear that one of these changes will be a better/bigger hand grip on the Fujifilm X-T2S compared to the (soon to be discounted) Fujifilm X-T2.

Considering that the Fujifilm X-T2S IBIS camera will probably also be the first choice for X-shooters interested in the huge “OIS-less” Fujinon MK18-55mm F2.9 and MK50-130mm T2.9 lenses, a bigger hand grip just makes sense… although one could also simply attach an optional grip, as Alessandro noted in the comments.

Fujifilm said the MK18-55mm F2.9 and MK50-130mm T2.9 cine lenses will hit the market in 2018 (originally planed for the end of 2017). What a coincidence that at the same time according to this rumor, a Fuji camera with IBIS, the X-T2S, will hit the market, too ;).

Fujifilm X-T2s - the Successor of the Fujifilm X-T2

Fujifilm X-T2S

UPDATE: Fujifilm changed the name from X-T2s to X-H1. All rumored specs remain the same

One of the questions I get regulary via email is if the Fujifilm X-T2S, the successor to the X-T2, will have a new X-Trans sensor. So I hope to end the confusion, by sharing today, that, from what I hear, the Fujifilm X-T2S will have the same 24MP X-TransIII sensor of the Fujifilm X-T2.

The main upgrade over the Fujifilm X-T2 is the in body image stabilization (IBIS).

I have the feeling that this could be a very hot autumn, and that a whirlwind of Fuji rumors is coming ;)

What To Expect From Fujifilm…
… and 2 Notes

The Ultimate Fuji X: I know that this camera was in Fuji’s plans, and I know they scrapped it in favor or the Fujifilm X-T2S (which is basically an “ultimate X light”). However, I decided to already move the ultimate X rumors in the wrong rumor section, because I need a public statement of Fujifilm that such plans existed to share it as a correct rumor (as it happened with the X-Pro1s)… and also because otherwise the wrong rumor section would have been empty :)

Fujinon 33mmF1: In January, I reported that the 33/1 has been scrapped. As a consequence, I launched a huge lens request poll, where the 33/1 became the most voted prime lens by the FR-community. The results might have convinced Fujifilm to think about it again, as a rumor recently suggested. Hence you will find 2 rumors down below… the one that says the 33/1 has been canceled, and the one that says there is a little bit hope again.

Fujifilm X-H1 IBIS Will NOT Have Sensor Shift Multishot Feature

Fujifilm X-T2S… No Sensor Shift Multishot

UPDATE: Fujifilm changed the name from X-T2s to X-H1. All rumored specs remain the same

Hey folks,

I have a quick update regarding the Fujifilm X-T2S, Fujifilm first camera with IBIS (in body image stabilization).

I hear it will not have the “Sensor Shift Multishot” feature, present in cameras like the Olympus OM-D E-M5 II.

What is it?

You basically press the shutter 1 time, but the camera takes multiple images by slightly moving the sensor and combining those exposures to create one high-resolution image.

With this technology, the Olympus EM-5 can take 40MP images with its 16MP sensor. Keep in mind that it works properly only if your subject stands perfectly still.

Fujifilm’s First Steps into IBIS

Recently, thanks to this interesting video by Demos Soupashis, we wondered: do we need already an X-T2S with IBIS? Wouldn’t it be better to wait a bit longer, and offer IBIS on the X-T3, which should be overall a much more upgraded product (new sensor etc)?

Well, I have to agree with some of you guys, like azbest and Didiergm, when you say here:

Engineers need time to learn & try; The first IBIS implementation might not be perfect or might not push the technology to it’s limits as these things take time

The X-T2S will be Fuji’s first step into the world of IBIS (well, actually it’s this Fujifilm camera already), and if we want a mature and top notch IBIS system on the Fujifilm X-T3, then Fujifilm has to launch it now on the X-T2S and gather experience from it, improve it, learn.

And one thing Fujifilm can not offer, at least for the start, is the sensor shift multishot technology.

Will sensor shift maybe come one day via firmware update to the X-T2S? Will it come with the X-T3? Or it simply can’t be done with (current?) X-Trans sensors? Questions, I’ll try to answer you as soon as possible.

stay tuned… more is coming :)

Japanese Rumors Confirm Fujifilm X-E3, XF80mm and GF45mm… Whatever Happens Sep.7, Follow FR, and Be the FIRST to Know it :)

The Japanese rumor site nokishita confirmed on Twitter here, that “next week” Fujifilm will launch:

  • Fujifilm X-E3
  • Fujinon GF 45mm
  • Fujinon XF80mm Macro

But I have strong indications that, on the same day, Fujifilm will also:

  • update the lens roadmap
  • announce/release new Kaizen Firmware updates

That’s what we can expect for sure.

Will there be also the X-T2S? Or the X80? Nothing is impossible, but for now I prefer to be careful, and to tell you not to expect more.

What’s Next From Fujifilm? … and First 2017 Rumor Check (100% Correct Rumors)

Two or three times a year, I feel like I need to put a bit of order in the whirlwind of rumors, and give you guys a well-ordered overview of the rumors shared so far this year by FujiRumors.

It’s also the opportunity for me to check back the accuracy of all the rumors I’ve shared this year.

So high time for some facts:

  • 229 blog post published so far in 82 days (2017)
  • 36 rumors shared in 82 days (2017)
  • 12 rumors still to be verified
  • 24 correct rumors out of 24 verifiable rumors
  • 0 wrong rumors out of 24 verifiable rumors
  • 100% correct rumors

Sure, there are still 12 rumors that have to be verified, not all will be correct (because they are wrong or Fujifilm will change plans), but I’d say of the 12 remaining, I wouldn’t be surprised if most are correct.

A big hug goes to all sources, from the most anonmyous to the most trusted one, who decided to help me to find the right path in the fake rumor jungle and to put excitement in the Fuji world by sharing accurate rumors. You make being an Fuji shooter even more fun :-)

Also, thanks to everybody, who spotted some interesting Fuji related news/rumor/deal/review on the web, and took his/her time to drop me an email with the link to it. Much appreciated… and feel free to keep it up.

thanks to all,

Fujifilm Manager: GFX & X-T2 Demand Higher than Expected :: Fujinon 200/2.8 or 200/2 :: Fujifilm X-E3 :: X-T2 Kaizen & More

These are busy days for journalists at the CP+ in Japan, and the next interview with Fujifilm Managers just hit the web, this time again with Mr Makoto Oishi. Some excerpts:

  • We’ve sold more X-T2’s than we ever expected.”
  • X-T2 shipping problems due to Kumamoto earthquake. But “from this year we’re in a better position and we have enough stock.”
  • The request to control ISO on X-T2 via FN button/command dial instead of dedicated dial is something that Fujifilm “should consider” to add “maybe a firmware upgrade
  • GFX more demand than we expected
  • “When we announce our new telephoto prime we also need a higher performance body”.
  • “We’re still thinking about the focal length and the aperture. There’s a big difference between a 200mm f/2.8 and a 200mm f/2 – they’re totally different.” – NOTE: a rumor of last year, February 2016, said 200mmF2.
  • X70 was successful last year and Fujifilm wants to keep small fixed lens compact cameras in their lineup – NOTE: X80 Rumor
  • X-E3: “With the strong demand for X-E series cameras we have to think seriously about the future lineup.” NOTE: Check out this X-E3 rumor

Iridient X-Transformer 1.0 Beta 1 for Windows Available

irirfi

It was a long wait, but here it is, the public Windows Beta version of Iridient.

Download here Iridient X-Transformer 1.0 beta 1

** Quick review: Iridient X Transformer (beta) at aevansphoto **

This software is currently “public beta” meaning that it is intended to be functionally complete, but has only been subject to minimal internal testing. This beta version may contain errors and may not function as well as the final release will. The image processing and adjustment settings should be close to finalized, but there may be further fine tuning to processing and/or adjustment settings during beta testing that could alter image quality prior to final release. I do not recommend using or installing beta versions of this software in a business critical setting.

Iridient X-Transformer is a utility that can be used to convert Fujifilm RAF images to DNG format using Iridient Digital’s high quality RAW processing algorithms. Much of the core RAW processing, sharpening, noise reduction and lens corrections featured in this program are shared with Iridient Developer a more full-featured RAW processor that is available for macOS.

The Iridient RAW processing routines have been in active development for over 12 years for use in Iridient Developer and have been optimized and refined over the years for the best possible image quality. Iridient Developer is widely regarded as one of the highest quality RAW processors available.

This program converts Fujifilm’s proprietary RAF image data to the openly specified DNG image format. The DNG format was created and is publicly documented by Adobe. They have detailed information regarding the format on their website here:
Adobe DNG information

The key RAW processing stages that can be applied by Iridient X-Transformer during conversion to DNG include:

    • Interpolation or demosaic processing. This transforms the camera sensor’s X-Trans or Bayer color filter information to produce a full color RGB image. This processing is always applied by Iridient X-Transformer and cannot be disabled or undone. There are two interpolation options, one for a more detailed rendering and a second smoother, lower artifact version. The algorithms are identical to the latest “detail+” and “smooth” options in Iridient Developer 3.1.2.
    • Sharpening. Iridient X-Transformer features advanced sharpening based on the very highly regarded “Iridient Reveal” sharpening algorithms featured in Iridient Developer. Sharpening is optional and can be adjusted (low/med/high) or disabled.
    • Automatic lens corrections for distortion, chromatic aberration and vignetting. Corrections are based on native Fujifilm lens information specified in their RAF metadata. The lens correction stage is optional and lens correction information can also be passed on through DNG opcode metadata and left to later processing stages or ignored altogether. The lens correction processing in Iridient X-Transformer uses the same high quality resampling algorithms as Iridient Developer.
  • Color and luminance noise reduction. The noise reduction processing in Iridient X-Transformer shares much in common with the latest noise reduction available in Iridient Developer and is specifically optimized for RAW image processing. Noise reduction is optional and can be adjusted (low/med/high) or disabled.
