Fujifilm X-T20 Firmware Postponed: “Update More Complicated Than Expected” says Fujifilm Netherlands

Share

As you know, Fujifilm announced that in late November, the Fujifilm X-T20 will get a firmware update, that will allow you to use the touch screen in EVF mode. In fact, the official Fuji news here still says it will be available in late November.

However, that might change soon.

FR-reader Özgür contacted Fujirumors (thanks), and told us that Fujifilm Netherlands informed him via facebook here the X-T20 firmware update has been postponed. They say (translated by a Dutch speaking FR-reader)

The update appears to be more complicated that initially anticipated and has been temporarily delayed, however, it is sure that it will come. It is important, of course, that this update works well without problems or errors.”

FujiRumors already reported about some technical difficulties with the X-T20 firmware update a few weeks ago. Now, the X-T20 will continue to be covered with Kaizen love for as much as possible, but Fujifilm has to invest a considerable amount of time and money into proper coding.

I have asked Fujifilm Netherlands in the comments on facebook, if also the X-T2 firmware will be delayed, and they answered here:

For as far as we know the date for the X-T2 FW update will remain the same

And in the meantime, today 11 Fujifilm cameras got a firmware update. It only adds support for the upcoming XF80mm macro, but we explain here, why should update your camera anyway, even if you don’t plan to buy the XF80.

And again, here are all the download links for the 11 Fuji cameras

Fujifilm Releases Firmware Updates for 11 Fuji X Cameras

Share

11 Fujifilm X series cameras just got an update to support the Fujinon XF80mm 1:1 macro. The lens itself will be released on November 30

The compatibility is added with XF80mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro. The accuracy of AF function is improved when the lens is attached.

Not included in the updates are the Fujifilm X-T2 and X-T20 (which will get an update in “late November”), X-Pro2 (to be updated “late December”) and X-E3 (X-E3 Firmware Rumors here).

FUJIRUMORS RECOMMENDS: update your camera in any case, even if you do not plan to get the XF80mm. Fujifilm often implements “undocumented fixes“, which can be as small as a typo in the menu, but also more significant bug fixes and improvements.

Automatically Convert RAF to DNG in CaptureOne :: Luminar 2018 First Looks :: Lightroom Vs. Photo Mechanic & More (X-Trans Zone)

I have received some emails, asking me if I ever heard of RAW Power. Sure I have :). Actually FujiRumors was the first site to report about it 10 months ago here. I included it also in my 10 Lightroom alternatives article lately. So at least for regular FR readers, it’s old news.

What nobody told you until now is that you should keep in mind RAW Power uses the Apple RAW engine, which so far, to my knowledge, does not support Fujifilm compressed RAW files. This could be a dealbreaker for many out there, who like to shoot lossless compressed.

With that said, let’s jump over to today’s X-Trans conversion roundup… hope you can find something useful for you :)

Fujifilm X-shooters have a few ultra fast X-mount third party lens options, such as the Mitakon 35/0.95 and the Ibelux 40/0.85. But how do they perform?

Well, there are many reports already shared on FujiRumors, such as Jonas Rasks’ Mitakon 35/0.95 review. And today I want to add a few more reports, also about the second generation Ibelux 40mm/0.85, the currently fastest lens you can buy in Fuji X mount, and which is no longer a “HandeVision” but a “Kipon” product, as reported by dc.watch here

National Geographic Declares Fujifilm X-T2 Best Overall Compact Travel Camera 2017… Top 10 Ranking Includes X-T20 and X100F

Share

The end of 2017 is approaching, so get ready for many “Top gear of the year” and similar articles appearing on the web. So let’s start, this time with National Geographic, who listed their Top 10 compact cameras for travels.

This year, there are 3 Fuji cameras in the ranking, the Fujifilm X-T2, the X100F and the X-T20 (in 2015 Nat Geo awarded 2 Fuji cameras, the X-T1 and X100T, as reported here).

Read the whole article “Top 10 Compact Cameras for Travelers” at nationalgeographic here and click on the product link in the list below for specs & price:

About the X-T2 they write:

The X-T2 has everything one would want in a professional DSLR in a APS-C mirrorless camera. The combination of quality manual dials to control settings, speed of image processing, the amazing line lenses and the build quality make this camera such a pleasure to use that many professionals now use this camera as their main system. You simply cannot go wrong with the X-T2 as a high end travel camera; it’s an all-star, all-around team player that just won’t quit or let you down, no matter where your travels take you.”

However, in the features list of the X-T2 and X-T20 they mention the “five-axis image stabilization“. Now, Fujifilm has arguably the best optical lens image stabilization system on the market, but so far, IBIS is something that will come… in a not so distant future ;) .

Anyway, do you agree with this list?

Sure, the Fujifilm X-T2 has weather sealing, so definitely a nice to have feature on travels. On the other hand, nothing can beat the simplicity and lightness of travelling with the X100F. And coupled with the WCL-X100 and TCL-X100, the X100F is a wonderful mini-system with leaf shutter and build-in ND-filter, that makes it so much more versatile than “just” for street photography.

But let’s see what you think about it :)
