Fujifilm X-T3 Video: 4K at 60p, 10 bit and Zebra

Fujifilm X-T3

When the Fujifilm X-H1 was launched earlier this year, Fujifilm Manager Watanabe sair here:

We couldn’t add zebra [to the X-H1] because of hardware constraints. The processor cannot support it. It requires too much processing power.”

Well, I am please to inform you, that thanks to the more powerful processor in the Fujifilm X-T3, the Fuji X-T3 will now have the Zebra feature.

And overall the video specs are improved, since according to our trusted sources, the Fujifilm X-T3 will be capable of:

  • 4k at 60p
  • 10 bit (I am verifying if also internal)
  • zebra (real time highlight clipping warning during video)

Fujinon XF 33mm F1.0: Tell us Why We Should Buy it… and How FujiRumors (YOU!) Helped FUJIFILM JAPAN

Are we Going to Get in Trouble? ;)

This post is dedicated to FR readers like ikeofkc, Sebastian, and all the other XF33mmF1.0 fans out there. We convinced Fujifilm to make the XF33mmF1.0. Now help me to convince X-shooters to buy the Full Frame Killer Lens, too… or we might get in trouble with Fujifilm! ;)

When recently Fujifilm announced the new XF lens roadmap, I was very happy to see that Fujifilm took 1:1 our lens suggestions we made 1.5 years ago, and that they decided to give us what you guys voted your most wanted prime (33/1) and your most wanted zoom (16-80/4).

So we all should be happy about it, right?

Yes of course…

… but now that we convinced Fujifilm to make the 33/1 and 16-80/4, we also better buy these lenses, or we might get in trouble.

I mean, if the FR-community directed Fujifilm’s R&D into projects that turn out to be a failure, then will they ever listen to us again in future?

Now, I have little doubts that the XF16-80mmF4 will be a huge seller. As we have shown in our size comparisons based on technical Fujifilm sketches (thanks again Yoav) and you can also see from the first 16-80 real life images, it is smaller than the XF18-135, which can be seen as a direct “travel lens competitor“. I guess many of us will be tempted to put the XF16-80mmF4 in our travel bag.

But what about the XF 33mmF1.0?

Is it just a spectacular lens on paper (“world’s first mirrorless lens with F1.0 maximum aperture and AF capability“) that will raise lots of curiosity and chatter, but stay mostly unsold in warehouses?

I don’t think so, but of course only time will tell.

What we can do, though, is to discuss why you would buy the XF33mmF1.0 and which use it would have for your kind of photography. Why should we start saving for it? Let us know in the comments down below.

And of course, down below is a little and simple poll: are you interested to buy the new roadmap lenses?

I know it depends on performance, price and many other (also personal and professional) aspects, but I’d just like to know if you have a general interest to eventually buy one of these lenses (or you are absolutely not interested in them).

How YOU helped Fujifilm Japan

Back on the 2nd of February 2017, I was contacted by source, who told me that Fujifilm was right now collecting ideas and taking decisions on what should be the next lenses on the roadmap. The source told me that this is the perfect (and only) moment, where we can eventually influence Fujifilm Japan’s future XF lens decisions.

I hurried, and a few hours after the sources’ message, I already asked you guys which XF lenses you would like to get next (without unveiling to you about what the source told me, because I had no permission to… but the source gave me clear and expressed permission now to share this curiosity with all of you).

Your response was instant and astonishing, and you guys shared several thousands of suggestions.

And knowing that Fujifilm was about to take decisions, I worked non stop day and night for a few days, in order to sum up all your suggestions into 30 lenses, and be fast enough to ask you what you would like to get, before Fujifilm already took any decision.

Well, 15,000+ of you voted the poll, and the rest is history :).

I LOVE this community… keep it up :)

FujiRumors is Back from “Holidays”: Ready for Rumors and Editing Pictures (but Fujifilm Film Simulations make Life Easier)

FujiRumors Blogging on the Road :)

My Holidays

It’s done… I made it…

I drove over 2,500 miles (4,000+ km) with my girlfriend on my old Mazda2 and since a few days now I am back home.

It was a rather complicated road trip, due to the huge Fujifilm rumors and announcements in July. But I had great moments during my trip, and also blogging was exciting… especially the new roadmap made me happy :)

I am now about to edit my images, but I am so happy that I guess in about 80% of the cases I will get excellent results applying Fujifilm film simulations only (or slightly fine tuned).

I travelled with my Fujifilm X-E3, XF10-24, XF18-135, XF35mmF1.4, XF27mmF2.8 and Samyang 12mm F2.

And of course my trusty Sirui T-025X carbon fiber travel tripod (bought upon your recommendation).

My most used lenses were the XF10-24 and XF18-135, since I mostly focussed on landscape photography in this trip.

I used the 35 and 27 mainly to make some portraits of my girlfriend and some street photos, but so far I could not convince her to give me permission to share them on FujiRumors, but I’ll not give up, and if I get permission, I will share them on my Instagram page here.

I have shared the first few images of my trip on my social media already (more will come), so in case you would like to find out which places I have been to, just check out my Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.

Just a teaser (includes yet unedited images):

Your Rumors

Now I am back… 100% focussed on FujiRumors… and I tell you: I have the feeling that rumors will come. Many of them. And here is what you should do, if you don’t want to miss them:

  • ALLOW PUSH NOTIFICATION: at the bottom right of your browser, you’ll see a little bell icon. Click on it to enable browser push notifications (or disable them, if you don’t want them). This is an excellent way to get instant notifications.
  • FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA: another excellent way to get the rumors in your news feeds is to follow Fujirumors on Facebook, RSS-feed, Instagram, Youtube and Twitter

Guys, we are going to have fun… and I have the feeling you don’t want to miss the exciting Fujifilm rumors that are coming ;)

And to have an idea of what is awaiting us, make sure to check out our 2018/2019 Fujifilm rumor timeline.

Tethered Shooting for Fujifilm X-T2 and X-Pro2 on Linux – UPDATE: now also Fujifilm X-T3 supported

Tethered Shooting for X-T2 and X-Pro2 on Linux

NOTE TO READERS: Due to new EU regulation, we were forced to currently disable the guest post plug-in. But if you want to be featured on FujiRumors, you can still reach out to me and send me your articles via fujirumor@gmail.com.

UPDATE: Now also works with Fujifilm X-T3

Guest Post by Stefan Weiberg – www.hibiki.eu / @stefan_weiberg

During this years SUSE Hackweek Marcus Meissner, the maintainer of libgphoto2, worked on tethered shooting support for Fujifilm cameras on Linux.

The community provided him with a X-E2, X-T2 and X-Pro2. On top of that the developers of Timelapse+ (www.timelapseplus.com), which internally uses libgphoto2 to communicate with the camera, provided code for adding basic support.

As the X-E2 doesn’t support the necessary protocol for tethered shooting Marcus couldn’t add it for this camera. But for the X-T2 and X-Pro2 a lot of stuff now works:

  • white balance mode
  • image format (quality and size)
  • exposure metering mode
  • exposure program
  • focus metering mode
  • capture delay (self-timer)
  • focus mode
  • shutter release

Here you can see Entangle, a graphical frontend for libgphoto2, together with a X-Pro2 in action:

Live view support doesn’t seem to work as of now and many other features that the Fujifilm protocol might support as well. A tremendous help for further development would be an open specification for the connection protocol by Fujifilm. As we know Fujifilm follows Fujirumors. The addition of some of the highest voted lenses of the Fujirumor survey in the new Fuji lens roadmap is prove of that. Maybe this will get their attention and get them into contact with the developer.

To test this on your own machine you have to use a master branch build of libgphoto2 or if you use openSUSE Leap 15/Tumbleweed use the graphics repository to receive a newer build:

https://software.opensuse.org//download.html?project=graphics&package=libgphoto2

If you want to help Marcus Meissner to further improve libgphoto2 head to the pixls.us forum and join the discussion.

UPDATE: The official release 2.5.19 is now tagged and can therefore be build by other distributions – check out discuss.pixls.us

Fujinon XF 16-80mm F4 and XF 16mm F2.8 Vs. other Fujinon Lenses – SIZE COMPARISON [UPDATED]

XF 16-80mm F4 Vs. XF 10-24mm F4
XF 18-55 Vs. XF 16-80 Vs. XF 18-135
XF 35mmF2 Vs. XF 16mmF2.8 Vs. XF 16mmF1.4

Fujinon Size Comparison

Earlier today we shared the first real life images of the XF 16-80mm F4 and the XF 16mm F2.8.

As you know, I am right now travelling, but I stopped my car on the highway to make a quick size comparison of the XF 16-80 and 16/2.8 with some other Fujinon lenses like the XF35mmF2, based on technical sketches that Fujifilm showed us here.

UPDATE: FR-reader Yoav made one, probably more accurate (thanks) based on filter size. Thanks!!! :)

The XF 16-80 is seriously tempting me as terrific travel lens. But having already the XF 18-135 (and I am very satisfied with it), I will probably save my money for the 33/1 that is coming in 2020.

Either way… I am afraid that the new lens roadmap Fujifilm announced yesterday will seriously hurt my bank account again.

Photography is a pretty expensive hobby… but a very satisfying one :)

FIRST IMAGES of FUJINON XF 16-80mm F4 and XF 16mm F2.8

New Roadmap Lenses Images

Yesterday Fujifilm announced a new Fujinon X mount lens roadmap, along with the XF 8-16mm F2.8 and XF 200mm F2. Of course we reported about immediately here on FujiRumors Live Blogging.

The new roadmap includes the following 3 new lenses:

  • Fujinon XF 16-80mm F4
  • Fujinon XF 33mm F1.0
  • Fujinon XF 16mm F2.8

Now the first images of the XF 16-80mm F4 and XF 16mm F2.8 mock ups start surfacing on the web, and you can see them down all below and have been shared at dc.watch and by pw-pix2 at dpreview.

In addition to that, you will see also more real life images of the XF 8-16mm F2.8 and XF 200mm F2.

As you can see, despite I am currently on holidays (driving to Matera now), I will not miss a single tidbit and break it all for you here on FujiRumors first. This and more, for the wonderful community around FR, who was even able to dictate to the Japan Fujifilm Headquarter the lenses we want next ;)

And I tell you… it’s by far not over and more great stuff is coming soon!

Fujinon XF 200mmF2 Vs. Canon & Nikon 300mm FF Size and Weight Comparison

The Big Glass Comparison

Yesterday Fujifilm released the Fujinon XF200mm F2 OIS WR and Fujinon XF 8-16mm F2.8 WR.

Now camerasize added the XF200mmF2 to their system (not yet the 8-16), and you can now start compare all the combos you like with it.

I decided to compare it to it’s full frame equivalent lenses:

The Fujinon XF 200mm F2 is the lightest and shortest of the bunch.

Down below a comparison to the second largest Fujinon lens, the Fujinon XF 100-400.
