Fuji X-Pro2 compressed files decoding – Support Request by creators of FastRAW Viewer / RAW digger

lib raw

The creators of RAW digger & FastRAW Viewer are working on a software that should handle compressed Fuji RAW files much faster. Since this is something many X-shooters could profit from and Iliah is asking for feedback, I’m happy to share it here on FujiRumors.

We are preparing an open source release of decompressor as a part of LibRaw. That will allow raw converters, including open source ones like RawTherapee, Darktable, UFRaw to decode FujiFilm compressed raw files.

via dpreview

To thoroughly test the decoder they incorporated it into their FastRawViewer and RawDigger. Please do try it and let them know through support@fastrawviewer.com if there are any files that cause problems.

FastRawViewer:

OS X:
http://updates.fastrawviewer.com/data/beta/FastRawViewer-1.3.1.917.dmg

Windows/x64:
http://updates.fastrawviewer.com/data/beta/FastRawViewer-1.3.1.917-x64-Setup.exe

Windows/x32:
http://updates.fastrawviewer.com/data/beta/FastRawViewer-1.3.1.917-Setup.exe

Up-to-date manual: http://updates.fastrawviewer.com/data/beta/FastRawViewer-Manual-ENG.pdf

In FastRawViewer, they suggests to use Preferences – Performance – Use high speed preview for Fujifilm X-Trans setting with this camera, unless you use a very fast computer.

RawDigger:
OS X:
http://updates.rawdigger.com/data/beta/RawDigger-1.2.10.473.dmg

Windows/x64:
http://updates.rawdigger.com/data/beta/RawDigger-1.2.10.473-x64-Setup.exe

Windows/x32:
http://updates.rawdigger.com/data/beta/RawDigger-1.2.10.473-Setup.exe

After some beta testing of RawDigger and FastRawViewer with this decoder (5, maybe 10 days) they will publish the decoder as a part of LibRaw open source.

The Making of the XF35mmF2 :: “Designed for X-Pro2! Construction is more luxurious than XF35mmF1.4”

X-Pro2 + XF35mmF2 designed together

XF35mmF2 was announced and released prior to X-Pro2, but the product planning took place concurrently. The fact is, the product planner of X-Pro2 and XF35mmF2 is the same person. Furthermore, the product designer is also the same person.

[…] X-Pro2 and XF35mmF2 were planned and developed to be the best match for each other.

The Lens Design & Construction

First, XF35mmF2 is skinny. It’s not small, but skinny. It only measures 60mm in the largest diameter. If it is smaller than 60mm, then everything would fit within the body mount. It looks nice and clean when the lens is attached to the body and minimizes the vignetting in the OVF. Everyone would like the clear view.

XF35mmF2 is also quiet. […] If the lens is noisy, then it is pointless to have a quiet camera.

[…] If you look at the number of lens alone, XF35mmF2 comprises 9 elements in 6 groups (including two aspherical lenses). This construction is more luxurious than XF35F1.4. The aspherical lens is really effective for the compact optical length.

[…] In order to meet the requirement within the small lens barrel, metal barrel with high rigidity is used. We minimized the size by making each parts with multi-purpose. XF35F2 uses all metal parts for the exterior. […] In order to process the fast AF, actuator and micro computer are installed.

Other criteria had to be met to be in the XF lens lineup. To have 1/3 step aperture ring, new click mechanism was developed. Two balls are positioned, so that there will be an assuring click even though the rotation distance is short.

Do you guys own both, the XF35mmF2 and XF35mmF1.4? Feel free to share your feedback about these lenses in the comments.

Comparison :: Fujifilm X-Pro2 Vs. Sony A6300 + X-Pro2 at High ISO !

Fuji X-Pro2: Shooting @ High ISO at tavphotography youtube

_ _ _

The Sony A6300 and the Fuji X-Pro2 are maybe the two best APS-C cameras you can get today on the market. Both sell very good, but which one is the better performer?

The Sony Vs. Fuji battle is a hot topic and comparisons are inevitable. Cameralabs tested the A6300 Vs. X-Pro2 here.

Admiringlight even compared Fuji’s new flagship to the Full Frame Sony A7II, as you can read here… with surprisingly good results for the X-Pro2, btw!

Sure, both, the A6300 and the X-Pro2 deliver amazing images in real life and you’ll hardly find something to complaint. But today let’s go deeper into the pixel peeper territory and look at “200% crops most of the time to show you the differences,” and where “we can easily file these small discrepancies into the irrelevant folder if we concentrate on real world shooting” as mirrorlessons said in their A6300 and X-Pro2 comparison.

In short:

Resolution and detail: RAW files difference is “almost non-existent“. Especially when using Iridient to demoisac the RAW files “the X-Pro2 files gain more details and they actual look crisper than the ones of the A6300. […] The a6300’s JPG engine has a tiny advantage because it renders finer details.”

Dynamic Range: “The uncompressed RAW option on the X-Pro2 gives more flexibility if you need to heavily post-process your images

Low Light and High ISO: At ISO12,800 the X-Pro2 shows less color noise, while the Sony A6300 has more details. In real world, both are “very usable” at high ISO. “As for the extreme values and the JPGs, the a6300 is superior.”

Colours: Guys, you know the winner here, right? ;)

Autofocus: “The a6300 has a few advantages (faster burst speed, better Eye AF and 3D Tracking) while the X-Pro2 has a better buffer with JPGs and is easier to use. When we look at the results and the consistency of the performance, both cameras work really well.”
