“Only two years ago all of this was like asking for the moon!” X-T1 review at riflessifotografici (part 2)

And here it is, part 2 of riflessifotografici’s X-T1 review. After Max Angeloni (part 1), now also Donato Chirulli shares his X-T1 findings on the Italian review site here (English version).

New FR-readers, who don’t know riflessifotografici, may be warned: if you are looking for pages over pages of mere specs, pixel peeping, technical data and graphics, then this is not the kind of review you should read. But, if what you’re looking for is a real life review, a review that doesn’t need many words, but just the right words to reveal the good and the bad of the X-T1 and with beautiful images, then check it out here.

“The X-T1 is the closest thing to a reflex that I’ve used since that day in 2009. For the first time since I started to use CSC cameras I haven’t had that subtle and almost unconcious feeling to have a slightly lesser camera compared to a DSLR. Pictures were good, sure, but sometimes the AF system, sometimes the viewfinder, sometimes the responsiveness left something to be desired…You know what I mean. Trust me when I say that the X-T1 won’t let you feel like that.

[…] The Ev compensation and shutter speed dial would have had a better feeling if swapped, at least for me. Too many times I found myself changing the EV compensation while I wanted to change the shutter speed. […] My third complain is shared with some of the other X-series cameras (i.e.X100S) and is related to the impossibility to shoot RAW on a double exposure, a feature that the X-E1 has…Why is it missing on the X-T1?

[…] What else should I say before leaving room to the image gallery? Not that much, to be honest…I have just one thing to say: at this point I think Fuji should focus on a weather sealed 300mm lens (as bright as possible, I would say F3,5) in order to fill what is the only “hole” in the Fuji lenses lineup.”

“Fixing the X-T1’s put in front of everything else”. US serial numbers affected by the light leak

Share

 photo us_zpsbb633791.jpg

Fixing the X-T1’s will be put in front of everything else.” That’s what FujifilmUSA told to FR-reader Wally.

And now, on the FujiUS site here you can find the X-T1 serial numbers that might be affected by the light leak problem. As FR-reader LetThereBeLight told me: “In the U.S. serial numbers 41A05201 or higher are safe and anything under that is possibly affected.

Kaizen is fine, the firmware updates even to discounted cameras are great (even though it means sacrificing sales earnings for customer loyalty as a Fuji manager told us here), but it’s when things go wrong that you seriously test the customer service. And now, only days after the problem arose, we have an official fix. Fuji is really rolling up their sleeves to get things right as quick as possible (as with the flawed X-PRO1 firmware fixed withing days too).

As always, feel free to drop your own considerations and experience in the comments.

X-shooter Roger (US) wrote me an email with the following information: “The dealer in Japan that I purchased 56mm lens from just informed me that the 10-24mm lens arrived today and I purchased for $ 1010. Should have it next Monday or Tuesday.” [shoplink 22646 ebay]Here is the Japanese eBay reseller[/shoplink] who has the 10-24 in stock. Roger said that “The dealer in Tokyo that I referenced earlier has now posted this lens on Ebay at $ 1090. The posting does not say how many are available. I have purchased the 56mm lens in the past and it was shipped same day and packed extremely well. EMS Express shipping was 4 days to West Coast. The 10-24mm was ordered and shipped today. This is a reliable dealer and prices lower that other Ebay sellers in Japan.”

First Impressions

– Camera Preview: Fujifilm X-T1 with XF 10-24mm F/4 R OIS at bigheadtaco here: “This camera is everything that all the hype built it up to be. This camera is a game changer (I hate to use this term since everyone is using it); and I think that companies that haven’t invested into the larger sensor (APS-C and full-frame) mirrorless camera market (Canon, Nikon, Pentax) better beware. Although I highly respect the micro 4/3 system (amazing variety of bodies and lenses), I think many are now thinking about upgrading (sensor-wise) to the Fujifilm X series with their eyes on the X-T1. […] Overall, a great lens [10-24] and a great addition to the already complete line up of lenses in the X-series. The size and weight is equal to the complexity of the design and performance of this lens. It’s very addictive being able to shoot so wide, and I found myself just walking around and taking in the world at 10mm!! Ideally, I did find that I preferred shooting no wider than 14mm when shooting street.”

–  My first pictures with the new Fujifilm XF 10-24 F4 R OIS  at mworsdorfer here: ” Before I share the following images with you I have to say a few words about the new XF10-24. If you think this lens is small and compact, you’ll be disappointed. It is pretty much exactly the same size as for instance [shoplink 22639]Nikon’s 10-24[/shoplink] or [shoplink 22640]12-24[/shoplink] equivalent. However, there is absolutely no way that you can compare these lenses. ”
