BREAKING: This is the Name of the New Film Simulation Coming September 12

According to our trusted sources (thanks!) that the new film simulation coming September 12 will be called REALA.

The Reala film stock (sold with the name Reala Ace and Reala Superia and discontinued in 2012), was a aimed at professional and enthusiast photographers and it was Fuji’s first film with 4th layer technology for exceptional color accuracy, especially in fluorescent lighting (no greenish cast). The 4th layer technology would make also the 400H film so popular.

The original film was very loved by wedding photographers and seems to be ready to make its comeback in form of a new film simulation.

Let’s hope it will find its way in as many older Fujifilm cameras as possible. But so far I have no rumors about any firmware updates in this regard.

Fujifilm GFX100 II Coming with Video Touch-to-Track Autofocus

One of the big mysteries in the Fujifilm world always was: why does Fujifilm offer touch-to-track autofocus in stills, but not in video?

Well, the Fujifilm GFX100 II will finally put an end to this mystery, as I hear from trusted sources that the Fujifilm GFX100 II will offer touch-to-track AF also in video.

And you know exactly what this means.

It means that now we ask for Kaizen Firmware love also for other cameras that are already on the market ;).

Fujifilm GFX100II with 3-Way Tilt Screen

When we shared the rumor that the Fujifilm GFX100II would accept the cooling fan (which we confirm), I noticed people saying in the comments that this obviously means the GFX100II will have a fully articulating screen, just like every other cameras that is currently compatible with that fan.

But sometimes, what we think is so obvious, is wrong anyway ;).

Because we have been told the Fujifilm GFX100II will have a 3 way tilt screen.

Fujifilm to Launch New Film Simulation on September 12

Usually it goes like this.

Fujifilm launches a new sensor/processor platform and gives us a new film simulation along with it.

But that did not happen with the launch of the Fujifilm X-H2S back in May 2022, and also not with all the other 5th generation gear that followed (X-H2, X-T5, X-S20).

That sucked, and I started moaning about it after the last X summit in May 2023.

But things are finally going to change on September 12.

According to our trusted sources, Fujifilm will launch a new film simulation on September 12.

One more thing to look forward to on September 12.

The 3 Biggest Fujifilm X Summit Disappointments

The Future of Fujifilm in Patents: Full Frame Lenses Coming, X100 with 20mmF2 lens, Foldable Fuji Smartphone and More

The Future of Fujifilm in Patents

Why Fujifilm?

Why?

Why are you doing this?

There is no need for one, totally wasted R&D.

These lenses make no sense!

That’s how some of the comments sounded on my various platforms after I have published the latest patents of the XF56mmF1.7 and re-designed XF18mmF1.4.

And these comments came after I warned you in the article that in 11+ years of blogging I have never seen a patent actually become a real product.

And despite my repeated warnings, some people keep taking those patents as an indication of what’s really coming next from Fujifilm.

But if it was really like this… I mean, if patents would really show us the way that Fujifilm is taking, then where are:

So, even though I feel a bit like Don Quixote fighting the windmills, I will give it another try today.

But I’ll take a different approach this time.

Because, well aware that a good number of people don’t go beyond the headline, I decided to create a headline that shows how absurd it is to put any trust in these patents. And hopefully, this will motivate people to look deeper into this subject.

And how do we look deeper into it?

Well, in this article we look at the 67 patents FujiRumors has shared starting from our first one posted back in 2012 until the latest one here.

Give them a look, and then make up your own mind if you should take patents as solid indications of future products.

All the Patents (Have Fun :))

Fujinon XF8mm f/3.5 Review: Outstanding Sharpness Wide Open, a Super Lens to Use (ephotozine)

ephotozine has published their Fujinon XF8mm f/3.5 review.

And it’s one of those reviews that, if you suffer from GAS, you better skip. ;)

Summary:

  • central sharpness is outstanding at f/3.5 and f/4, excellent from f/5.6 to f/16 and very good at f/22
  • the edges are good at f/3.5, very good from f/4 to f/11, good at f/16 and fair at f/22
  • Chromatic Aberration is very well controlled
  • no real sign of any color fringing
  • Distortion measures at just -0.62% barrel, which is fantastic for an 8mm lens
  • bokeh quality is very acceptable (although not really the great importance for such a lens)
  • Flare is well under control, even with very bright light sources in the frame
  • Vignetting is present but not excessive for the focal length

Pros

  • Excellent to outstanding central sharpness
  • Weather resistant
  • Low CA
  • Virtually no flare
  • Very low distortion
  • Excellent manufacturing standards
  • Moderate vignetting

Cons

  • Edge sharpness lower than centre
  • No OIS, reliant on camera body IBIS

It looks like Fujifilm released just another winner :). Read the full review with all the details and charts at ephotozine.

Chris & Jordan (PP) Fujifilm X-S20 Review: The Best Midrange Camera? (Spoiler: Yes!)

Chris and Jordan from PetaPixel have now published their Fujifilm X-S20 review.

A full comparison with the Sony A6700 and the Canon R7 will follow, but they did drop a few little spoilers that seem to indicate that the Fujifilm X-S20 is the best pick out of the three.

I won’t make a summary of the full review, because this review comes a little bit late and pretty much everything they say is kind of expected and well known at this point. But I will highlight mostly those parts that mention the X-S20 in comparison to competitors.

  • incredibly competitive price compared to other cameras that offer IBIS
  • there are lots of improvements on the photography side (better buffer, much longer battery, better autofocus, more film simulations, etc)
  • substantially better video capabilities compared to X-S10
  • competitors are Canon R7 and Sony A6700
  • Compared to Canon R7, Chris prefers the handling of the Fujifilm X-S20. He also likes tha Sigma and Tamron now support X mount, which Canon has not
  • vs Sony A6700, the Fujifilm X-S20 looks infinitely sexier and has better handling. The A6700 has better AF, but the X-S20 has definitely improved over the X-S10
  • X-S20 is more affordable than Sony A6700 and Canon R7

Fujifilm Factory Tour: Meet Fujifilm’s Most Complex Gear to Manufacture and How Adjustment is Key to Image Quality

The French website Phototrend had the opportunity to visit the Fujifilm factory in Taiwa, Japan, which where many premium Fujifilm gear is made, but not only premium. For example, also Fujifim’s oldest X mount lens, the legendary Fujinon XF35mm F1.4 R is assembled here.

In this tour, Fujifilm will also tell you which is the most complex gear to manufacture. Spoiler: it’s this beast here, which consists of over 1,000 pieces!!!

There is lots of interesting stuff to read and see, but I found one sentence particularly interesting: “adjustment is the key to image quality“.

So while the assembly takes time and is indeed complex, all the micro-adjustments made during and after the assembly are crucial to ensure a consistent and high quality product.

Down is a quick summary where you can read all the details as well as some images.
