Double firmware update for the X-S1 and X100.
For all of you owning one (or all two) of the cameras here are the links to the firmware download:
1) X-S1 version 1.01 (Click here to download).
- 1.Face detection function is upgraded to keep tracking face by means of face-tracking AF function. As this function is activated even in movie recording mode, AF on detected face in the movie becomes more effective.
- 2.Blooming (White disk) phenomena, which can be observed in EXR AUTO mode, is reduced.
- 3.Compatibility on Mac OS 10.7
When the camera is connected to Mac PC on Mac OS 10.7, the camera is effectively recognized. Additionally, compatibility on RAW FILE CONVERTER EX with Mac OS 10.7 has been confirmed. - 4.AF confirmation sound was controlled on “SHUTTER VOLUME” in the SET-UP menu. By this update, this sound is controlled on “OPERATION VOL.” in the SET-UP menu, just similar to another functions.
- 5.The image area with high brightness might be recorded as “black-out” area, just in case of dedicated shooting condition, This unpleasant phenomenon is improved.
- 6.When the flash is used under macro shooting condition, light-reflected area was shown in greenish. This unpleasant phenomenon is improved.
2) X100 version 1.20 (Click here to download).
The firmware update Ver.1.20 incorporates the following issues.
After updating into this version of the firmware, some new functions will be added and further improvements will be observed. Those are shown as “Improved items” below.
Part two of the X PRO review at Luminous Landscape. And EosHD now likes the camera.
Nick Devlin posted the second part of his X PRO 1 review at Luminous Landscape (Click here): “This camera can see in the dark. Its performance up to ISO 6400 is nothing short of remarkable, in particular for an APS-C sensor. This is the first camera I have used where ISO is just not an issue.” He really fell in love with the image quality and hybrid viewfinder but also found some flaws like the not so top performer 18mm lens and the usual slow autofocus.
But you absolutely have to read the full article. There are so many interesting points!
Meanwhile Andrew from EosHD (Click here) is now slowly changing his mind about the X PRo 1: “In my first look I was rather taken aback by the eccentricities of the camera and just could not work out what it offered over the cheaper NEX 7. Now in a surprised double-take, I am beginning to believe it is actually the best mirrorless on the market for stills.”
Good to hear that :)
Triple X lens review at ePhotozine!
We know almost everything about the Fuji X PRO 1 camera but we are still hungry of X lens reviews! Now the good guys from ePhotozine did the job for us:
1) Fujifilm Fujinon XF 18mm f/2 R Lens Review (Click here to read it): “Optically this lens is capable of delivering superb clarity in the central portion of the frame when stopped down a little. It is a shame that sharpness levels drop off towards the edges of the frame, and doubly so that this optic suffers from noticeable chromatic fringing towards the edges of the frame. Even with this lens’ imperfections, it is a pleasure to use, so long as its weaknesses are taken into consideration.”
2) Fujifilm Fujinon XF 35mm f/1.4 R Lens Review (Click here to read it): “With this lenses ability to deliver extremely sharp images, it should win many fans amongst users of this new camera system.”
3) Fujifilm Fujinon XF 60mm f/2.4 R Macro Lens Review (Click here to read it): “Sharpness is excellent from corner to corner, CA is pretty much non-existent, and other optical problems like distortion and falloff are also very well controlled. Unfortunately those wishing to use this lens primarily for macro work may find the issue with internal reflections a little too frustrating. The price is about right for the excellent build quality and features, but this lens will really sell itself on its near-perfect optical performance.”
Overall it sounds like the 18mm lens is the only one not coming near to perfection. But Fuji already told us that another wide angle lens is in the works, the 14mm f/1.4. Let’s see if it can beat the 18mm quality…

Three new full X PRO 1 reviews posted!
The world wide web is now full of X PRO 1 reviews. And here are the three latest ones:
1) Trustedreviews (Click here): “While it doesn’t come cheap, the X-Pro1 is a serious bit of kit that is sure to reward those who invest in one.” The camera earns 10/10 points!
2) Techradar (Click here): “The images from the Fuji X-Pro1 are superb. They may not have quite the detail that some full-frame cameras are capable of capturing, but they can beat these bigger beasts for dynamic range and noise control.”
3) Photographyblog (Click here): “It’s great to see another manufacturer join the compact system camera revolution and bring something truly innovative to the party, so if the Fujifilm X-Pro1 suits your way of shooting and your budget, we have no hesitation at all in highly recommending it.”
