I have received information, that Fujifilm will launch massive X mount lens deals in some European countries in May.

Other rebates will include lenses like the XF8-16mmF2.8.

Stay tuned on FujiRumors for more details.

Fujinon XF 18-200mm F3.5-6.5 Patent Spotted in 2014 gets Patent Revival in 2021

A patent has been spotted for a Fujinon XF 18-200mm F3.5-6.5. Now, I remember that a patent about a Fujinon18-200mm F3.5-6.5 has been spotted also back in 2014, and the optical design is similar indeed.

From the patent details we see that this lens has a higher optical magnification than the XF16-80mm F4 and the XF18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 and covers the angle of view equivalent to “25.5-300mm” in full size. The patent does not mention OIS.

Focus On Glass: “Higher Megapixel Cameras May Come in Near Future and XF200mmF2 Will Satisfy Increased Resolution Requirement”

Focus on Glass

Fujifilm continues to launch dedicated “Focus On Glass” promo videos to their lenses, new and old ones.

Today I’d like to highlight the one they released about the Fujinon XF200mm f/2 R LM OIS WR, a lens that belongs to the very best ones Fujifilm ever made, and is hard to beat in terms of IQ also by similar lenses of other brands. You do get what you pay for!

So how did Fujifilm achieve this tremendous image quality? In the Promo video, managers and engineers explain:

SIZE COMPARISON: Fujinon XF70-300mmF4-5.6 vs XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8 vs XF100-400mmF4.5-5.6 vs XC50-230mmF4.5-6.7

One of the most my personal most pleasing surprises of yesterday’s Fujifilm X Summit, was to see the lovely Fujinon XF70-300mmF4-5.6.

It’s compact, it works with both, the 1.4x teleconverter and the 2x teleconverter and it is definitely a lens that I can see becoming a huge hit for Fujifilm.

Fujifilm showed some hands-on images yesterday at the X summit (all visible in our dedicated article), and they also shared some technical sketches.

I couldn’t resit my own curiosity, so I took the technical sketches and used it to compare it to other Fujinon lenses, more specifically to the.

You can see the results above.

Based on the size comparison, I tried to approximately measure the size of the Fujinon XF70-300mm f/4-5.6, and I saw that it is roughly 1.5 cm longer than the Fujinon XF55-200mm f/3.5-4.8.

Hence, according to this calculation, the Fujinon XF70-300mm f/4-5.6 is about 133 mm long.

Also, according calculations made by FR-reader Fujiste, it should have a 72mm filter size.

If you want to see all the hands-on images of the the Fujinon XF70-300mm f/4-5.6 mockups, check out this article here.

Fujifilm Officially Recommends to Turn On OIS for Tripod Use on Fujinon XF 16-80mm F4 and XF 200mm F2

Best Friends: OIS and Tripod

We have all grown up with the idea (some call it “myth”), that we always should turn off OIS when working on a tripod.

Also Fuji X guru Rico Pfirstinger recommends this in his top rated Fuji X eBooks (at least the ones I have read).

And indeed, I feel like it’s still a good idea to switch off OIS. And in the comments Bob Cooley tells you why you should definitely switch it off for video.

But, looking at the owner’s manuals for all X and G mount lenses, I’ve noticed that Fujifilm officially recommends to keep OIS on, even when working on a tripod, on the following two lenses:

DPRTV Fujinon XF200mm f/2 Test: “Fast Fujinon Lenses Keep You from Having to Go Full Frame” – filmed on Fujifilm GFX 100

Fujinon XF200mm f/2

The Fujinon XF200mm f/2 is arguably the best lens Fujifilm has released in a while. It’s image quality without compromise.

DPRTV now published a short test of this lens (video below). The whole episode was filmed on the Fujifilm GFX 100.

  • big and bulky
  • OIS is very effective
  • similar price point to FF counterparts
  • awesome optical performance
  • it’s hard to say anything negative about optical performance
  • even with the 1.4x teleconverter, sharpness is incredibly well maintained
  • bokeh is beautiful
  • nice option for action and wildlife
  • very fast AF, best on Fujifilm X-T3
  • manual focus has a really long turn, unsuable for video manual focus
  • the autofocus in video is really smooth
  • Fujinon XF200mm F/2 and XF8-16mm f/2.8 are Fujifilm’s option from keeping you to having you go full frame

Here at FujiRumors, we perfectly know that lenses like the XF200mm f/2, XF8-16mm f/2.8 and also the upcoming Fujinon XF 33mm f/1.0 are niche lenses, but as we wrote here, we consider them of absolute importance to stop the full frame DOF whining :).

Fujifilm Fujinon GF 100-200mm f/5.6 Review: 5 Stars, Excellent in Every Single Way!

Fujinon GF 100-200mm f/5.6

Despite the fact that the Fujifilm Fujinon GF100-200mm f/5.6 is already shipping, it still does not get the coverage it deserves.

In fact, even at its launch, there was hardly any review about it.

And yet, this lens is actually pretty amazing, not only in terms of size, but especially in terms of image quality. In fact, thephoblographer writes in their review:

We award the Fujifilm GF 100-200mm f5.6 R LM OIS WR 5 stars out of 5. This lens is excellent in every single way, and it will serve anyone who uses well. You will be constantly floored with the images you can create with this lens.”

The GF100-200 coverage is still meagre, and the richest source of feedback about this lens is our immense Fujifilm GFX facebook group. Go to the group, search for “100-200” and enjoy the results. I will share a few of them down below.

But, in addition to Jonas Rask and Damien Lovegrove reviews, which you can find in our live blogging, I have found a few more.

Also Fujifilm uploaded more “monster glass” GF100-200 videos. You’ll find then below, too.

Fujinon XF 8-16mm F2.8 and XF 200mm F2 Compared to Equivalent Full Frame Glass, Owner Manuals, Reviews and More

Fujinon APS-C vs Equivalent Full Frame Glass

The Fuji year 2018 saw the arrival of two high-end, fast and top quality lenses, the Fujinon XF200mm f/2 LM OIS WR and the Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 LM WR.

Both Fujinon lenses are still smaller, lighter and cheaper than perfectly equivalent full frame glass, as you can see in this comparison, where we compare the Fujifilm XF200mm f/2 (with 1.4 TC) versus the Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L and the Fujinon XF8-16mm f/2.8 with the Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM.

Check out the comparison here.

Price and size is one of the advantages of an APS-C system. For more advantages, read this article.

And as soon as the Fujinon XF33mm f/1.0 hits the market in 2020, Fuji’s APS-C system will have also an equivalent to something like the Nikkor 58mm f/1.4G and the Sigma 50mm f/1.4.

So, that was the fast glass.

But many people, who buy into an APS-C system, probably do it because they look for the best balance between size, weight, price and performance.

Lenses like the Fujinon XF 16mm f/2.8 (which will come soon) and the Fujinon XF 16-80mm f/4 (which will come later), perfectly fit into the philosophy of the “balance“. Great performance in a compact, flexible, portable and affordable package.

My prediction: Fujifilm will sell the XF16mmF2.8 and XF16-80mmF4 like hot cakes, just like they do with their f/2 trinity, the XF23mmF2, XF35mmF2 and XF50mmF2.

Good that Fujifilm is boosting up its lens production by 70%.

But today’s roundup is all for the big and fast guys, the Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 LM WR and Fujinon XF200mm f/2 LM OIS WR. Enjoy it.
