Fujifilm FF230002 Registration Found – Expect X-Pro4, X-E5, X-S30, X-T6, X-T40, X-H3, X-H3S, X80, X100VI (X200) and GFX50R Successor Rumors to Magically Appear ;)

Fujifilm has registered the FF230002, so we now have a total of 2 registrations:

  • FF230001
  • FF230002

One of them will certainly be the Fujifilm GFX100 successor, which we already rumored months ago here.

Now, I can see the “rumors” about the Fujifilm GFX50R successor, the Fujifilm X-Pro4, Fujifilm X-E5, Fujifilm X-T6, Fujifilm X-T40, Fujifilm X80, Fujifilm X-H3, Fujifilm X-H3S, Fujifilm X100VI or X200 and more pop up. But those “rumors” appeared also ahead of the X Summit on May 24, and of course none of it materialized. But I guess misleading readers for traffic and good SEO is a great deal for them.

FujiRumors will let you know what the real deal is… clickbait and misleading free as usual ;).

New Fujifilm Patents: Fujinon GF 20-30mmF4, GF 24-50mmF3.5-5.6 and 50-380mmF3.3, 35-280mmF3.3 (Cine Lenses?)

I was debating with myself if I should stop to report about patents at all.

Why?

Because in 10 years of blogging I have shared hundreds of patents on FR, and none has ever seen the light of the day. What I have seen once or twice, is a patent surface only after the real lens had been already announced (making the patent “leak” useless)

The problem?

I notice that when I report about patents, people think this means the patented item will surely come, it’s just a matter of time.

And that’s a problem, because:

So I don’t want to create false hopes by sharing patents, as those are concepts written on paper, and they remain such in 99% of the cases.

On the other hand, this is a rumor site. Those patents exist, even if the products in those patents will never see the light of the day.

So I decided that I will report about patents, but I will put my disclaimers hoping people will read more than just the mere headline.

And today we talk about a couple of GF and probably Cine lens patents surfaced on the web and brought to us thanks to the Japanese website Asobinet here and here.

So let’s look at them one by one below.

Fujifilm GFX: One of 2021 Most Praised Systems Gets a Roundup – GFX100S Adventure Film, GF110/2 vs GF80/1.7, GFX50SII and More

The year is ending, the internet is flooded by “best and worst” articles and videos, and at some point of the ranking the Fujifilm GFX system always comes out on the very top positions.

It happened for example with DPRTV here (who gave tremendous praise to the Fujifilm GFX100S) and with BH Explora here, who ranked both, the GFX100S and the new GFX50SII in the top 10 mirrorless cameras list for 2021.

Now, nobody can predict the future in the long term. So if the GFX system will keep up rising or not remains an open question whose outcome will depend on many things.

But if we look back on how it all started with the GFX system and where the system is now, then we can surely say that Fujifilm has set some solid fundaments on which they could potentially build up something very special.

So, in order to honor the big GFX year that we just had, we celebrate today with a dedicated GFX roundup that you can find below.

ePHOTOzine Fujinon GF80mmF1.7 Review: Impressive Chromatic Aberration Control, Outstanding Sharpness, Superb Image Quality

When the ultra fast Fujinon GF80mmF1.7 was launched, some noticed a minimal sign of fringing when pixel peeping into images to ultra detailed pixel level. Something to worry about?

Apparently not.

According to ePHOTOzine, who just published its full technical review, the GF80mmF1.7 is able to contain chromatic aberration extremely well. They write:

CA (Chromatic Aberration) is also very impressive, centrally being close to zero as we stop down slightly. The edges are also kept well under control.

I did play around with the GF80mmF1.7 of my close friend too (he sold all his Nikon Z gear for the GFX system) and quite frankly it’s a stunning performer in terms of optical quality.

Down below you can see the Pros and Cons of the ePHOTOzine review.

Fujinon GF80mmF1.7 Technical Analysis, DOF Calculators, Comparison with GF110mmF2 and More

Fujinon GF80mm f/1.7 (vs GF110mmF2)

The Fujinon GF80mmF1.7 is currently not easy to find. A low stock is available at Adorama here and also at AmazonUS here.

And yet, slowly but surely, it is falling in the hands of photographers, who drop their (very positive) reviews on the various online sales platforms:

But also Jim Kasson is covering the Fujinon GF80mmF1.7 brilliantly in his technical tests, which we will share down below.

I did play around with the Fujinon GF80mmF1.7 too (and so did my son) when I met my friend, who sold all his Nikon Z mirrorless gear for the GFX system. So far he does not regret it at all and he is totally thrilled about his switch.
