First Godox XT1-F Hands On Report and Damien Lovegrove Final Godox Testing

The Godox Flash system is currently one of the best (if not the best) option for Fujifilm Shooters looking for a solid (and extremely affordable) flash system.

There is a great buzz about the Godox flash at our huge 14,000 GFX facebook group. And here are two Godox reports you should not miss.

The first one comes from David Ward (dmwfotos.com), who is using the Godox X1T-F controller already. The second one from Damien Lovegrove, who switched from Cactus to Godox and is now sharing his feedback on the group.

Firmware Bugs? Share them Here and Let Fujifilm Know (and Wireless Tethering Update)

 photo KAIZEN_zps1fdb780f.png

Recently Fujifilm launched several firmware updates for a bunch of Fujifilm cameras (X-T20, X100F, X-T2, X-Pro2, X-T1 and GFX).

I get emails with reports about bugs, especially regarding the Fujifilm X100F.

As you know, thanks to your continuous support and high activity in the comments, Fujirumors is by far Fujifilm’s biggest source of online feedback. So you can be sure that they will read you. And if everything is fine, you can also just say “thanks” in the comments ;). You know Fujifilm reads you and Top Manager Toshihisa Iida even “loves” you. :)

An update also regarding the WiFi tethering. Direct connection between camera and computer works. Check out the updated tethering article here.

Dear Fujifilm, We Love Kaizen… but the New Wireless Tethering is “a JOKE”!

We have praised Fujifilm Kaizen Philosophy countless times, and just recently Fujifilm delivered again several updates for a bunch of Fujifilm cameras. So thanks Fujifilm for you ongoing support :)

But you know, FujiRumors is a free and independent space (thanks to your support, guys), and when something is wrong or does not work as expected, I will share it here on FujiRumors…. and today I would like to talk about the Wireless tethering introduced with the recent update.

I got some emails of Fujifilm shooters, telling me the WiFi Tethering is disappointing, because you have to make it run via router, so useless on location (you can go for the Transcend WiFi SD-card and this WiFiImport Lightroom Plugin if you need Wireless tethering on location – read all the instructions at danielzihlmann).

UPDATE: You can connect directly camera + computer as this video by FR-reader Paul shows

Anyway, still good for your own studio, right? Not really.

The problem? The data transmission is extremely slow. It is in fact so slow, that Fujifilm itself, at the very bottom of their (rather long) wireless tethering setup guide here says:

Wi‑Fi connections conform to IEEE 802.11b/g/n standard and are slower than USB. Given the extremely long times required, we recommended that you do not attempt to upload RAW images or other large files via Wi‑Fi.”

So you got it. The connection is basically too slow to transfer RAW files (about 1.5 MB/s transmission rate only!), which is quite a bummer. How many of you guys shoot JPEG in studio? And btw, considering that the JPEG files on the GFX are quite large (especially super-fine JPEGs), it will be a pain even to transfer GFX JPEG files.

Fujifilm also says:

Place the camera as close as possible to the router. Distances of no more than a few meters are recommended.”

Be aware of this. As etomcat said on the fuji-x-forum here

the camera (X-T2) has less wireless sensitivity than my iPhone. I need to be literally close to the router to make it work.”

Last but not least, as Rico said at our forum, “live view works with a data rate of only 700 KB/s

At the Forum, some call the WiFi tethering “a joke”.

With all that said, I know that the Kaizen Love we Fuji Shooters get is something extraordinary… I’m basically complaining at a level 99% of other camera brand owners actually envy us.

It’s just, this WiFi tethering is not really a practical and usable solution, and my job here on FujiRumors is first of all to keep you guys informed about what’s good, but also about what’s not so good in the Fuji world.

Hey Fuji… want to do something nice? Give X-Pro2 shooters the same ability of X-T2 shooters, to control ISO via command dial ;) … and some people out there also bought a Fujifilm X100S/T, that could get a bit of Kaizen Love too.

So guys, did you test it? You know Fujifilm reads us (and Top Manager Toshihisa Iida even “loves” us), so feel free to leave your feedback in the comments.

Tethered (Wireless) Shooting for X-Pro2 (and X-T2) is Possible… with WiFi SD and a Free Plug-in!

Fujifilm X100F Firmware Update 1.01 Available

I’ve already reported about the Firmware update for Fujifilm GFX, X-T2, X-Pro2, X-T20 and X-T1 earlier today first here on FujiRumors.

Well, Fujifilm also released the Firmware update for X100F. The firmware update Ver.1.01 from Ver.1.00 incorporates the following issues:

  1. The phenomenon is fixed that ISO cannot be changed by the command dial when ISO is set to AUTO by Camera Remote via WiFi connection to a smartphone or a tablet.
  2. When a camera turns on in MF mode, the focus position comes to the original position where a camera turned off.
  3. The phenomenon is fixed that in MF mode, a focus can shift in a specified condition (ex. repeated CL shooting).
  4. Improvement of operability for the command dials.

You can download the X100F Firmware 1.01 here.

– Expected release date: May 19, 2017
– Mass store sales price: around 31,860 yen (including tax)

Ok, I knew it… not much time to take care of my hang-over after my birthday party yesterday. Anyway, lots of coffee, and I’ll be fit in time for the live blogging on April 19 :)

In the meantime, nokishita just confirmed the announcement of GF110 and GF23 on April 19, as well as Instax Aquare SQ10.

They also mention the INSTAX SQUARE WW 1 (Square film).

The Print

Just a little leak for you guys to give you a better idea of the size of the upcoming Instax Square SQ10 prints.

Interesting to note, the original image (which I had to cover to keep the source of the leak anonymous) was printed in black and white. This can mean that there will be also a monochrome Instax Square film (like the monochrome Instax Mini film). But consider that the Instax SQ10 will be a hybrid digital/film camera, so it might be possible to transfer images taken with the camera to the Instax Square SQ10 printer, and print it from there, just like we do with a regular Instax Share Printer.

The big announcement party for the new GF 110mm F2, GF 23mm F2 and Instax Square will start soon (April 19).
