Digital Camera Market Share 2021: Sony Grows Big (+4.9) Fujifilm a Bit (+0.3) and Losses for Canon (-2.1) and Nikon (-2.4)

Share

Every year, Techno System Research, a major marketing research company located in Japan, publishes the worldwide camera market share data.

And while the data is behind a (very expensive) paywall, the main chart (see above) for this year has been published by the Japanese Nikkei.

Digital camera 2021 global market share (compared to 2020) *Techno System Research

  1. Canon … 45.8% (-2.1%)
  2. Sony … 27.0% (+4.9%)
  3. Nikon … 11.3% (-2.4%)
  4. Fujifilm … 5.9% (+0.3%)
  5. Panasonic … 4.4% (±0.0%)

This is the data for the entire digital camera market.

I find the mirrorless ranking more interesting, as it is free of all those DSLRs Canon and Nikon still sells.

For mirrorless only, this is the data we had for 2020:

  • Sony: about 35%
  • Canon: about 30%
  • Fujifilm: about 12%
  • Nikon: about 7%

Once Techno System Research publishes the data for mirrorless cameras only, I will let you know.

Fujifilm X100V (Black) Shipping at Adorama

Share

We recently reported here how Fujifilm would stop taking orders on the Fujifilm X100V (at least in Japan for now).

But in that article, we also told you that Adorama was expecting some X100V black cameras coming soon.

Well, it seems they were accurate, as a FujiRumors reader now told me he got shipping notification for his black Fujifilm X100V.

At the time of this post, Adorama marks the Fujifilm X100V as “on the way to our warehouse and is expected in a few days.”

Fujifilm X-Pro3: Class-action Lawsuit Filed for Falsy Advertising ‘Reliable Durability’

Share

Petapixel reports that photographer Jethro Inong has sued Fujifilm North America Corporation for falsy advertising the “reliable durability” of the Fujifilm X-Pro3.

The origin of the alleged lack of durability are “defective ribbon connector cables.”

Jethro claims the X-Pro3 is not “durable, capable of functioning reliably and remaining in proper working condition for years to come”.

This defect in turn caused the viewfinder(s) and/or the LCD touchscreen to glitch or stop working altogether, affecting the function and capabilities of the device,

Petapixel also links to multiple threads and stories about the issue.

You can read the full lawsuit here and the report of Petapixel here.

My take?

Well, my first reaction was that if I go in forums and look for just any camera I can think of, I will find plenty of complaints about issues and what not. So pretty much every company could get sued all the time. But for example I can’t remember Sony being sued for advertising their camera as “weather sealed”, despite plenty of reports about horrible weather sealing.

But we live in a system where one can sue anybody for whatever reason. So it’s Jethro’s right and if he thinks it is worth the effort, so be it. We trust in the justice system and we know the outcome of this lawsuit will be fair and just.

SIMPLY the BEST: Messi and Ronaldo Meet the Fujifilm GFX100S of Annie Leibovitz

Share

Apparently Annie Leibovitz is not really following the photography forums and certain gear youtubers, otherwise she would know that the Fujifilm GFX100S is a completely useless tool because:

Limited by her gear, Annie stucks with minor gigs like photographing the two most iconic soccer players of the last 15 years, Ronaldo and Messi, for an insignificant company like Louis Vuitton in the context of a negligable event like the FIFA World Cup.

If only she would listen to certain big YouTubers, she would get rid of her GFX gear and finally be able to shine artistically by recording selfie videos in a basement.

The day will come, when wisdom will finally illumiate her. Until then, you can see a video of her working with GFX, Messi and Ronaldo as well as the final image below.

And btw… the gear Annie uses, is now heavily discounted.

NOTE: this is a satirical post… we don’t take life too seriously on weekends, right? ;) And thanks to our Greek friends at pttl.gr who spotted the news and shared it with us.
