DPRTV published a video about the Good and the Bad of Fujifilm.

The Good

  • many different styles and design of cameras that appeal to different type of photographers
  • whether you like more modern or vintage, Fujifilm has it
  • lots of price points using the same sensor
  • they keep innovating their APS-C sensor lineup, now they have high resolution 40MP and stacked 26MP
  • steadily improved video features
  • X-H2/S both video optimized models but for whatever your priority is: X-H2s for less rolling shutter and slightly better dynamic range or X-H2 for absolute detail. But many features are similar between the too
  • autofocus third party options

The Bad

  • Fujifilm is now focusing on higher end, but they can grow on affordable range
  • they hoped they make more affordable XC primes like the XC35mmF2, but that still their only XC prime
  • more affordable pocket sized cameras
  • tracking continuous autofocus. Fujifilm is getting stickier, but it still lagging a little bit behind and you get more false positive with Fujifilm than with other brands. Sometimes its the lenses that can’t keep up with the tracking
  • no tap to track in video mode
  • why no native leaf shutter lens option for the GFX system? Fujifilm made leaf shutter lenses in the past for Hasselblad in the past. You can adapt those H series Hasselblad lenses (Fujifilm H mount adapter G) but you don’t have autofocus. Fuji’s argument might be that sensor readout is getting faster and eventually there will be stacked sensor or global shutter, but that’s still a long way off for medium format

I actually promised myself never to do that again.

Why?

Because it was a hell of a work.

But you know what?

Screw it… You guys deserve it.

This place is what it is, because you are who you are: a passionate group of photographers who keep FujiRumors alive and interesting for all us with your comments, your votes on surveys and your participation overall.

So let me give you back something, by committing to invest countless hours into a single article.

Last time in 2017 we had 888 comments with thousands of suggestions, I collected and condensed them in a survey of 30 lenses and the final result can be seen here.

And you know what?

That survey helped Fujifilm immensely, as they took most of our top voted lenses and gave them to us exactly as we wished, as we reported here.

So let’s help the Fujifilm management again, and tell them what we need.

*** THE THREE (3) IMPORTANT RULES ***

  • Please give a maximum of 1 or 2 suggestions
    I know it is hard, but you have to tell us only your really most wanted and needed lens. So, 1 or 2 lenses. Not more.
  • Only X mount lenses
    We will make a separate article for GFX lenses. Otherwise it gets too confusing to have it all in one post
  • Not What’s on Roadmap
    Of course, do not put lenses on your wishlist that are already on the official X mount roadmap (the Fujinon XF 8mm f/3.5)

This restriction is important, as it is a first filter to really make sure we come out with a list of high priority lenses. And it also helps my work later on.

And be careful what you wish for. Put lenses on your list, that you are willing to pay for and to carry around for your needs.

Fujifilm X-T5 Manual Shares Details about Upcoming TG-BT1 Tripod Grip

We already told you about the Fujifilm TG-BT1 grip coming (later on confirmed by digicame-info).

Now digicame-info spotted a reference to the Fujifilm TG-BT1 in the Fujifilm X-T5 owners manual. It says:

Tripod Grips: TG-BT1: Record movies, take photographs, or adjust zoom on compatible power zoom lenses while holding this Bluetooth tripod grip.

It will basically work just like as the Sony Tripod Shooting Grip.

First Look at Fujifilm X-H2s and Frame.io – a Possible Workflow Revolution for Many Photographers

Recently Fujifilm and Adobe announced Frame.io support for the Fujifilm X-H2s.

Down below you can find a few videos explaining and showcasing how it will work.

To me it looks like there is a huge potential in this. It might even revolutionize the workflow of many photographers in future.

Imagine you shoot a wedding. Connect the camera to your phone or the local WiFi network, and while you shoot all your RAW files are instantly uploaded to the cloud as a backup. Then you come home and all the images are already available on Frame.io with no need to download them from your memory card.

Or sports photographers, who need to get the images to their editor as quickly as possible. No more dazzle with uploads. Just connect the camera and shoot. Your editor will pick live the images he needs.

Or if you are in conflict zones and a simple connection will allow you to instantly secure all your files.

And all the technology needed to make it work, already exists.

Fujifilm will be Adobes first partner in this regard along with RED. The Fujifilm X-H2S C2C support will come via a firmware update in spring 2023. You’ll need the new Fujifilm FT-XH file transmitter grip for this purpose.

In the talk with CineD, the manager does not exclude the possibility that it might work also on Fujfilm X-H2 one day, although he was very vague on this, elegantly eluding to give a clear answer, but also not wanting to totally rule out any possibility for that to happen.

The Fujifilm X-T5 is Shipping (and in Stock) – Here are the Top 5 Accessories I Can Recommend

With the Fujifilm X-T5 now shipping (and even being in stock at B&H & co), I thought I make a list of accessories I can recommend to you.

1) Dual Battery Charger, but Which One?

The Fujifilm X-T5 does not come with an external charger in the box, so you better get one.

You can get the Fujifilm original one (BC-W235) or get a more affordable third party solution like the Nitecore FX3 dual charger.

I own both and if I’d have to nail it down to Pros and Cons, I’d say the Fujifilm BC-W235 charges a bit faster but the Nitecore FX3 is more compact and more affordable. So it’s up to you to set your priority.

2) Spare Battery, but Which One?

For many of you the Fujifilm X-T5 might be the first camera with the new NP-W235 battery. And even though you’ll enjoy much longer battery life compared to the NP-W126S, it’s best to get at least another battery.

Which one? Well, after having had my first third party battery fail last year, where my Patona swelled up in my X-E3 and I had to fiddle around to get it out, I think the safest way to go is with original batteries.

Sure, it was much cheaper than the original battery, so I can’t complain about its shorter life span. But going forward I will stick with the original.

3) Only recommended SD Cards (with difference over X-T4 recommended cards)

If, like me, you used an X-T4 and now upgraded to the Fujifilm X-T5, and you bought your SD-Cards based on the officially recommended cards list for the Fujifilm X-T4, then you have to be aware that there have been changes.

Some UHS-II cards recommended for the Fujifilm X-T4 (for example the Toshiba Exceria Pro) are now no longer recommended for the 40 megapixel Fujifilm X-T5. The updated list for X-T5 contains:

4) Good Bye Selfie Screen, Welcome Screen Protector

One of the cool things of my Fujifilm X-T4 is that I can flip the screen inwards and hence keep it nicely protected (and it gives it an ultimate retro touch, as it looks to be a camera with no LCD screen at all).

However, with the 3 way screen of the Fujifilm X-T5 that is no longer possible.

But don’t panic, the solution to this is cheap and efficient: buy a touch sensitive screen protector. I buy those usually at my local store, so they also apply it on my camera right on the spot.

5) Give it a Cool Touch

The Fujifilm X-T5 is a wonderful looking camera, but if you want to put the icing on the cake and make it perfect, you can get one of those little X custom hot shoe covers.
