Fujinon XF150-600mmF5.6-8 and XF18-120mmF4 Compatible with All X Mount Cameras but Some Will Have Restricted Features

Earlier today Fujifilm released firmware updates for ten Fujifilm X and GFX cameras.

The firmware included XF150-600mm f/5.6-8 compatibility for three Fujifilm cameras, the X-T4, X-T3 and X-S10.

This lead to the misunderstanding that the Fujinon XF150-600mm f/5.6-8 will work only with four cameras: the Fujifilm X-H2S, the X-T4, X-T3 and the X-S10.

However, that’s not correct.

The Fujinon XF150-600mm f/5.6-8 will work with all Fujifilm X series cameras. However, except for the four cameras mentioned above, the other cameras will have restrictions on some features and functions. The same is valid also for the brand new Fujinon XF18-120mmF4.

Here is what Fujifilm writes on their compatibility page:

Your Fujifilm Wishes for 2022

Ok, I can hear your questions:

Well, some of those questions I think Fujifilm managers quite categorically already answered in the past, such as the monochrome questions and full frame question. But hey, managers also categorically said that X mount is not compatible with IBIS, and look, at the end we got IBIS, and it is even one of the best in the industry.

I am also working on some other of those questions, and I already have first answers that I won’t share just yet as I want to have it not only twice, but multiple confirmed. I can’t go wrong when I share certain things ;).

But we will talk about all that soon enough.

What I would like from you now, is that you share your top wishes for 2022 in the comments. Anything goes, as long as it has something realistic to it. So for example, wishing for an X-E5 when we just got an X-E4 is not very realistic. Also a big and heavy Fujinon XF600mmF2 probably won’t make much sense, unless you would pay any amount for it and train a lot to be able to carry it around.

Other than that, from cameras to firmware or lenses… whatever your heart desires and wishes, feel free to share it in the comments down below.

Top 7 Critiques on Fujifilm that Are Absolutely Justified

I recently wrote an article, where I list 10 attacks on Fujifilm that do not make any sense.

In that article, I promised that I would also write an article about the exact opposite, meaning sharing a list of critiques on Fujifilm that I totally understand and I agree with.

Fujifilm X-H2 with Stacked Sensor: What’s the Right Price for You? (But Do NOT Compare it to the New Sony A7IV)

Here is what is happening in these days.

Since the announcement of the new Sony A7IV, I am receiving lots of emails and also comments here on FujiRumors, pressing me to share more Fujifilm X-H2 rumors.

So let me say a few quick things:

First: I can share rumors only when I either have them or I have permission to share them. So if anyone out there would like to help me to put fire in the Fujifilm community with some X-H2 rumors, then feel free to contact me either via email at fujirumor@gmail.com or via PM on our social media. Also the rumor box is always there for you. If you use it, feel free to give yourself a nickname.

Second: I can confirm that the Fujifilm X-H2 price tag should not be higher and possibly be even lower than $2,500.

So is this a good price tag or is it too expensive?

Considering that the new Sony A7IV costs $2,500, one might think that the rumored Fujifilm X-H2 pricing is too close to the one of the Sony A7IV.

But here is the thing: the Fujifilm X-H2 can’t be really compared to the Sony A7IV. In fact, as Fujifilm itself proudly announced back at the Fujifilm X summit, the next generation Fujifilm cameras will feature a stacked BSI sensor. And as we know, the Sony A7IV has a non-stacked BSI sensor, basically the same technology we find in the $1,699 Fujifilm X-T4.

So you got the point: the Fujifilm X-H2 should be compared to other stacked sensor cameras, such as the Sony A9II, the Canon R3 and the Sony A1. So let’s do it now:

So you see that the other stacked sensor option out there on the market are at least 2K+ more expensive.

And if you look for 8K in a mirrorless camera, then here are your options:

So also in this case, the Fujifilm X-H2 will be at least $1,500 more affordable than competing 8K cameras.

There is no way around it: the sensor is a very expensive (if not the most expensive) component of a camera. For example, Fujifilm paid $2,000 for the older 50MP sensor in the original GFX50S). So, the smaller the sensor, the more affordable you can make the camera.

And as I wrote in a recent article called “top 10 attacks on Fujifilm that don’t make sense“, you simply can pack more specs for less money in an APS-C camera over a Full Frame camera. And this will be the case also with the Fujifilm X-H2, which offers a stacked sensor at a price full frame can’t not even nearly match.

Now keep all this in mind when, in the survey down below, I ask you what would be the right pricing according to you for the Fujifilm X-H2.

The Fujifilm X-H2 with Stacked sensor should cost...

Digital Camera Market Share 2020: Only Canon, Sony and Fujifilm Grow

Every year, Techno System Research, a major marketing research company located in Japan, publishes the worldwide camera market share data.

And while the data is behind a (very expensive) paywall, the main chart is published by Nikkei and we’ve covered it in the past:

Now the data for 2020 has been released by Techno System Research.

So what changed between 2019 and 2020? Let’s compare:

  • Canon 47.9% (+2.5%)
  • Sony 22.1% (+1.9%)
  • Nikon 13.7% (-4.9%)
  • Fujifilm 5.6% (+0.9%)
  • Panasonic 4.4% (-0.3%)

These top 5 camera companies took 93.8% of the global digital camera market.

Keep in mind that this is the overall digital camera market share (DSLR + Mirrorless + Point & Shoot). So no surprise to see Fujifilm behind Nikon. When it comes to mirrorless data only, until 2019 Fujifilm was clearly ahead of Nikon and on the third position after Sony and Canon.

New Fujifilm Camera FF200002 Registered on January 31, 2021, and Why It’s a Curious Case (X-E4)

FR-reader Kent (thanks), just informed me that he spotted the registration made on January 31, 2021, of a new Fujifilm digital camera with the code name FF200002.

The strange thing here is, that in terms of registrations we had two registered cameras recently:

  • FF200001 registered Sept. 2, 2020 = X-S10
  • FF200003 registered Dec. 14, 2020 = GFX100S

It was just a matter of time until the FF200002 would appear, and it did so on January 31 at the launchstudio bluetooth registration page here.

So which camera is the FF200002?

The answer is: the Fujifilm X-E4!

I know that, because I have watched countless of youtube videos about the X-E4, and in one of them I noticed that when the screen was flipped out, on the backside of the camera you could read “FF200002“.

But it’s strange: the X-E4 is the first camera that gets registered after it has been announced. We told you in this article that it Fujifilm usually registers cameras from 1 to 6 months ahead of announcement.

Well, I guess this means from now on we have to count also with the possibility, that Fujifilm will announce cameras without them appearing first on some sort of registration website. But don’t worry about that, I will let you know in advance anyway what will come ;).

So let’s update our original article, where we illustrate the time span between registration and announcement of new Fujifilm gear:

  • registered 1 month before announcement = 4 cameras (X-T2, X-E3, X-T100, X-T30)
  • registered 2 months before announcement = 3 cameras (X-T20, X100F, XF10)
  • registered 3 months before announcement = 3 cameras (X-T3, GFX50R, GFX100)
  • registered 6 months before announcement = 2 cameras (X-H1, X100V)
  • registered 4 days after after announcement = 1 camera (X-E4)
