Fujifilm X-T4 Dynamic Range Data (vs X-T3, X-Pro3)

Photons to Photos has published its Fujifilm X-T4 dynamic range measurement data.

The Fujifilm X-T4 basically performs identical to the X-T3. The Fujifilm X-Pro3 seems to be superior, but as Blill Claff from PTP explained to us:

The X-Pro3 appears to have improved PDR but it is an illusion.

It’s well known that Fuji implements the ISO setting in an unusual way.
In this case they have given ISO 320 to ISO 12800 an addition 1 stop boost.

Fuji uses a proprietary Exif tag called “Raw Exposure Bias” to indicate how much they have shifted the raw data from “standard”.

Adjusted in Excel for Raw Exposure Bias we see that the X-Pro3 and X-T3 are essentially identical. (They shift to dual conversion gain at a slightly different point).

Fujinon GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6 and Fujifilm X-T3WW in Stock Now

The Fujinon GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6 as well as the Fujifilm X-T3 (WW) are now in stock pretty much everywhere.

The Fujinon GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6 has received great reviews so far and it is the most affordable lens in the G mount lineup along with this lens. It’s also the most compact and light G mount zoom lens with less then half the weight of my Fujinon GF32-64mmF4.

The Fujifilm X-T3 WW (WorldWide) is an X-T3 without charger. By removing the charger and simplifying the shipping progress into different countries, Fujifilm is able to save some money. Savings, that Fujifilm passes to us customers by making it a terrific deal to buy.

Fujifilm X-T3 (Silver) Marked as Discontinued: Let me Explain What’s Going on!

There is a bit of confusion regarding the Fujifilm X-T3, as the silver X-T3 is marked as discontinued at BHphoto.

So let’s say two things first:

Now, many would have expected the Fujifilm X-T3 to be quickly discontinued after the launch of the Fujifilm X-T4, but so it wasn’t. The X-T3 remained a pretty successful camera for Fujifilm also after the launch of the X-T4.

What Fujifilm did, though, was to rationalize production a bit. So they reserved most of the bundle options for the X-T4 and few only for the X-T3 (as we reported here).

Also, recently, in order to simplify sales, Fujifilm removed the battery charger from the box and called it the X-T3 WW (where “WW” stands for worldwide). Different market would require different plugs, some markets even banned chargers due to environmental issues.

This move saves Fujifilm time and money and the savings tumbled down to us customers making it even more affordable than the “normal” X-T3 when discounted.

And in fact, just as of now, you can pre-order the Fujifilm X-T3 WW, which will start shipping on January 13.

But here is the thing:

In order to rationalize and simplify as much as possible (and hence make the X-T3 as affordable as possible), Fujifilm offers the X-T3 WW only in black (you can’t pre-order it in silver as it doesn’t exist).

Conclusion: the Fujifilm X-T3 is not discontinued. In fact you can pre-order it right now and get it shipped in a few days. Only the silver X-T3 seems to be no longer in production, not even in its X-T3 WW variation. But the black X-T3 is here to stay for still quite a while, don’t worry.

But you can still find some silver X-T3 samples around, for example AmazonUS has a few left here and Adorama is seeling some bundled with a lens.

DPRTV Fujifilm X-T30II vs X-S10 Comparison

DPRTV has always loved the Fujifilm X-T30. But then the Fujifilm X-S10 came along with some significant upgrades (such as IBIS). Can the new X-T30II close the gap again? Here is what DPRTV has to say about it:

  • X-T30II very similar to X-T30 but also some important upgrades
  • outside of camera is identical
  • display on the back is better on X-T30II has higher resolution
  • X-T30II has better RAM, hence has better buffer. In fact, here is how many shots you can take before it starts to slow down:
X-T30 lossless compressed RAW at 8fps: 18 shots before slowing down
X-T30II lossless compressed RAW at 8fps: 23 shots before slowing down
X-T30II lossless compressed RAW at 5fps: 23 shots before slowing down
X-T30II lossless compressed RAW at 8fps: 46 shots before slowing down
  • X-T30II has new AF tracking of X-T4 with good hitrate. So better AF than X-T30
  • X-T30 has all the latest film simulations available for X series
  • X-T30II has F-Log assist (X-T30 has only F-Log)
  • X-T30II has 1080p at 240fps (but pretty soft and not great quality)
  • X-T30II brings lots of fairly small upgrades
  • Fujifilm X-S10 bold departure from classic design strategy
  • X-S10 and X-T30II are similar in size. X-S10 has a bigger grip, which lots of people like
  • X-T30II has better rear screen over X-S10, however, the X-S10 screen does fully articulate
  • max 8 fps for both cameras. X-T30II has better buffer hence can shoot longer bursts than X-S10 (which performs like X-T30)
  • X-T30 still has that old 2.5mm jack, which means you’ll need an adapter to attach your microphone. For headphones, you have to use the USB adapter
  • X-S10 has a 3.5mm mic jack (hence no adapter needed). For headphones still use USB adapter
  • Overheating at 4K/24p 200mbps:
    X-S10 overheats at 44:10 minutes
    X-T30II overheats at 28:18 minutes
Way longer video shooting with X-S10
  • X-S10 has IBIS, X-T30II has not
  • X-S10 is only $100 more expensive
  • X-T30II has better screen and buffer
  • it comes down to the styling and your preferences
  • Chris prefers the X-S10
