Nissin: New Firmware for HSS on X-T2/Pro2 Coming “at a Later Date” + Air 1 Commander in November ** HSS with Cactus Beta Firmware (VIDEO)

nissin-i60

If you follow FujiRumors regulary, you’ll know that the Nissin i60 is in stock since mid September. You can find the Nissin i60 at Adorama, AmazonUS and BHphoto.

One of the issues, though, is that with the X-T2 (and the X-Pro2 FW 2.0) Fujifilm introduced new flash protocols (read also Fujifilm & Flash, The State of The Art here). This means that flashes like the Nissin i60 need firmware udpates in order to work properly.

Well, apparently Nissin is working on it. If I got the google translated version right, Nissin just said in an official press release to the Nissin i60 launch in Japan here (via dc.watch), that they are working on a firmware udpate, in order to unlock the HSS feature.

“[google translated] Regarding the for Fujifilm, with FP flash (high-speed synchro) non-compliant at the moment, is scheduled to correspond by firmware updates at a later date.

In addition, NAS commander “Air 1” Fuji Photo Film for Four for the Thirds, is expected to release November.

Regarding the Nissin i40, FR-reader Fujica explains that “you will need to send your flash to the distributor for the update as the i40 does not have a USB port.”

As shared here on FujiRumors back in September here, Cactus is also working on a new firmware and you just have to drop them an email to get access to the Beta Firmware. ZedProMedia did it, and shared his feedback on his youtube channel here.

Yes, the Nissin i60 Flash AIR System Will Be Compatible with Fujifilm Cameras

air system

When Nissin announced their Nissin i60 flash, it was not really clear, from the press release, if Fujifilm cameras will be compatible with the Air System. Moreover, some sites, like flashhavoc, didn’t mention the Fuji X compatibility.

However, stores like BHphoto, clearly listed the Fujifilm Nissin Air compatibility as one of the product highlights.

Confused? Don’t worry… at the official Nissin i60 product page, you can now see, that Nissin’s Air system will be compatible with Fujifilm cameras… of course only once Fujifilm released a firmware update to support it.

I remind you that the Nissin i60 was originally planed to hit the market in mid June (report here), but has now been postponed to late July, according to BHphoto.

DELAYED :: Nissin i60 Flash for Fuji coming late July !

ni60

And after the Fujifilm EF-X500 delay (report here), we now have another very nice flash for the Fuji X-system, that has been postponed: the Nissin i60!

It was originally planed to hit the market in mid June (report here), but has now been postponed to late July, according to BHphoto. But maybe that’s a bit too optimisitc. Nissin officially said the Sony Version will be available in August (via SonyAlphaRumors).

Nissin i60A for Fuji X now Available for Pre-Order (with Radio Receiver, according to BH & Adorama specs)

lasdjf

You can now pre-order the Nissin i60A at BHphoto here and Adorama here. It will be available in mid-June.

Reading the specs at BHphoto and Adorama, it seems that Nissin’s Radio TTL System will work also with Fuji X Cameras.

Last month, in their Nissin i60A overview, the site flashhavoc didn’t clearly mention the Fuji X compatibility with Nissin’s radio function, so that many X-shooters thought there will be no radio function support for X-cameras. But they maybe might have made an error, since BH and Adorama clearly mention the Nissin Air 2.4 Radio TTL System. But make up your own mind and check out Nissin’s official (google-translated) i60A press release here.

Fuji will release a firmware update for the Nissin i40 to enable HSS flash sync with TTL metering! (src – Nissin Rep)

 photo Nissin_zpsab9eb8ca.jpg

You might remember that, at the beginning of February, FR-reader Sascha told us in the comments to the “Wild Rumors post“, how to force HSS on your Nissin i40. The tirck spread also on wimarys‘ website.

The trick works, you can enable HSS… but without TTL metering.

Well, wimarys had a conversation with a Nissin rep, who told him that Nissin is “waiting for the HSS firmware update to be released by Fujifilm”. This update will allow you to use HSS with TTL metering!

thanks for the link, vadim.

And what about the long expected (and rumored) Fujifilm Flash?

I was a bit worried when, a few days ago, I shared the news that the mecablitz 26 AF-1 digital release has been pushed back to April. As FR-reader Just a Thought commented: “The delay might well be due to the insolvency that Metz went through.”

You might wonder why this should affect the release of the Fuji flash.

As you can read in this rumor, a source told us that the Fujifilm Flash will be made by Metz. And back in November 2014 a tursted source told us that it was expected to come in spring 2015. Well, I hope the insolvency of Metz won’t affect the release of this (really needed!) flash… or that the anonymous source was not right and the flash is not made by Metz.

Nissin i40 HSS Force Trick… enable sync speeds up to 1/4000 on your X-series camera!

 photo asd_zps42e099ec.png

FR-reader Sascha shared 2 days ago the following comment on FR: “Go get the nissin i40 flash, turn it to manual, hold test button for three seconds, watch the lamp next to the m for manual go on and off. You just turned on high speed sync. Even though fuji claims to not support hss it works just fine up to 1/4000!!! I tested it!! You just have to find out what shutter speed you need first. Then turn on flash put the right dial on the speed you need, aim and shoot… Done!”

Also wimarys talks about the “Nissin Trick”, and shows you how to enable sync speeds up to 1/4000 on your x-series camera using the Nissin i40.

  1. Turn the i40 to manual mode
  2. Press and hold test button for three seconds
  3. Watch the lamp next to the m for manual go on and off. You just turned on high speed sync!
  4. Turn on flash put the right dial on the speed you need
  5. HSS works up to 1/4000

Or, as photomadd says: “To activate the HSS you need do is turn the flash to manual, press and hold the test button for 3 seconds, which if you don’t know (as I didn’t!) is the power LED. After 3 seconds the LED next to the manual control will flash. Unfortunately you are now not in TTL mode so it will only sync with the manual flash controls, but that is good enough.”

Thanks Vadim and Travis for the links
