Panasonic Announces Development of Organic CMOS Sensor that Realizes Good Color Reproduction under all Kinds of Light

Myth of the Organic Sensor

10 year after the joint Panasonic and Fujifilm announcement, where the organic sensor was first unveiled to the masses with great optimism and claims of glorious performances and dynamic range, we haven’t seen anything coming to the market, expect for a camcorder prototype shown by Panasonic back in 2019.

The last update we got was back in October 2021, when Panasonic unveiled a 35MP organic Super35 CMOS sensor with global shutter.

Well, today we got another update from Panasonic, where they announced the “development of organic CMOS image sensor technology that realizes good color reproduction even under all kinds of light sources“. You can read the full press release below.

Is Fujifilm Still Involved?

Unlike the first announcement in 2013, that was made by Panasonic and Fujifilm together, this time it’s only Panasonic, who released a press release regarding the organic sensor development.

So the question I guess is if Fujifilm has pulled out of the organic sensor development.

The last statement in this regard comes from Panasonic, who in October 2018 said they are still working on it with Fujifilm.

So at least until 2018, Fujifilm and Panasonic did work on it together, but I don’t know if that’s the case still today. I will try to figure that out and in case let you know.

UPDATE: Laowa Argus 28mm f/1.2 will NOT be available for Fujifilm X mount

Share

Whops, I owe you a correction.

Yesterday Venus Optics contacted me and asked to share on FujiRumors the news about their new Laowa Argus 28mm f/1.2 is coming.

They did not specify the mounts, but since they know I cover only Fujifilm stuff, I assumed they’d pass me only Fujifilm related information and I did share the article here.

But sadly that was not the case.

After the scepticism some of you expressed in the comments, I did contact Venus Optics again, and I can now confirm that the Laowa Argus 29mm f/1.2 will NOT be coming for Fujifilm X mount.

I do apologize for the error and I have now clarified with Venus Optics that further communication between us shall only happen if Fujifilm related gear is involved or/and the available mounts are clearly specified.

This should make sure that such errors won’t occur in future.

Sorry guys.

Fujifilm X-T5 Books

Share

We already reported about the Fujifilm X-T5 book of Rico Pfirstinger that will be released in July. Rico is also working on the equivalent Fujifilm X-H2 and X-H2s book. That one will come in August.

I have owned a couple of Rico’s books and I can wholeheartedly recommend them.

However, there are of course also other books out there.

Another author that has covered Fujifilm cameras in many books is Tony Phillips. His X-T5 is already available for example at Amazon USA here (and other Amazon countries here).

At Amazon you’ll find the B&W version of his book. For the full color version you have to purchase it directly at Tony Phillips website here.

[UPDATE: in the description to this book they write the X-T5 is a 26MP camera. So definitely don’t buy this book] Of course there are also other books out there, such as the one of Steven Walryn called “Fujifilm X-T5: A Complete Guide From Beginner To Advanced“, a ultra cheap book compared to the other options. But I am absolutely not familiar with Steven’s work and I personally recommend to stick with Rico or Tony.

I will personally go for the Rico Pfirstinger X-T5 book. I found them brilliantly written and to the point.
