These 4 Fujifilm Cameras Snapped World Press Photo 2019 Winning Photos

World Press Photo is world’s most prestigious photojournalism contest.

In 2017, Fujifilm was the only brand to break the DSLR hegemony and also in the 2016, the X-Pro1 was the only MILC to snap a winning price.

In 2019, it is still DSLR that dominates, by taking 71% of the winning photos, but it’s less than in the past:

2019 has been Fuji’s best year so far, since Fuji X shooters snapped 4 winning images.

Interesting to note that Fuji’s rangefinder styled cameras win over the DSLR-styled ones, as opposed to real life, where the X-T line far outsells them all, the X-Pro, X100 and X-E line.

But at the end of the day, what matters is that we can see lots of great images at the worldpressphoto page here, and I am pretty sure you won’t care which image has been taken with which camera, but simply be captured by the stories they tell.

How to Save and Restore Your Camera Settings

How to Save & Restore Camera Settings

Every now and then I get emails from fellow Fujifilm X Shooters, complaining that their camera settings get completely deteleted. There are several reasons this can happen:

  • after firmware update (it should not happen, but it can)
  • discharging of the small build-in internal battery: happens if you leave your camera too long without battery. In case of new cameras, give it a long first charge, or settings will delete shortly after battery has been removed

So the first thing you can do, is to avoid the errors we mentioned above.

And yet, sometimes it’s not a user error (see firmware update), so you better have a Plan B in case all your settings get lost, and in our case, our Plan B is called Fuji X Acquire.

And since just right after the Fujifilm X-T3 firmware update, some FR-readers couldn’t find the back-up feature, I thought I share a quick guide on how to save & restore your Fujifilm camera settings using Fujifilm X Acquire.

Fujifilm X-Pro3 will Be Made In Japan – Anonymous Source

Fujifilm X-Pro3

Here on FujiRumors we value your trust.

This is why we meticlously filter anonymous rumors, and you guys will read only those, that I feel confident to share (the tons of fakes I get every year will never go online).

But, even though today I feel confident to share, I invite you to take every anonymous rumor with a grain of salt.

An anonymous source (who used a nick-name, thanks!) contacted me via rumor box and told me the next Fujifilm X-Pro3 will still be made in Japan.

Fujifilm moved the Fujifilm X-T3 production to China in order to be able to sell it sensibly cheaper to customers. This is why, at launch, the brand new Fujifilm X-T3 cost less than the Fuji X-T2.

By keeping the X-Pro3 production in Japan, we can expect the X-Pro3 to match the current Fujifilm X-Pro2 price or be even higher.

We remind you that the Fujifilm X-Pro3 will come in 2019.

That’s it… for now, but I have lots (!!!) of rumors I am working on. Follow FujiRumors on Facebook, RSS-feed, Twitter, Youtube and Instagram to read them all soon.

Also, if anyone out there is willing to help me out in the thick rumor jungle, feel free to contact me also anonymously via rumor box.

MESSAGE TO THIS ANONYMOUS SOURCE: Thank you very much!!! I have read also the other rumors you shared, and since they are pretty long-term, I will give it a quick double-check with sources and share them hopefully very soon. Thanks again for the help, and feel free to contact me again whenever you want using the nickname.

Fujifilm X-T30 Beats Sony a6400 in Autofocus Stills Tracking, but Sony A6400 Better for Video and Vice Versa

Fujifilm X-T30 vs Sony A6400 – Part 1

Gerald Undone has often critiqued Fujifilm quite hard and never recommended to buy Fujifilm, except for the Fujiflim X-T3. He now reviewed the Fujifilm X-T30 and compares it to the Sony A6400.

Interesting to note that he gets better autofocus tracking results in stills with the Fujifilm X-T30 over the Sony a6400. But the a6400 is the better choice for video autofocus.

Down below are the key points of his comparison.

DEAL ALERT: Today only you can save up to 30% on selected SanDisk SD-card at BHphoto here.

Fujifilm X-T30 Review

  • less video features than Fujifilm X-T3
  • overheats much faster than X-T3 in video, hence shorter recording limit
  • X-T30 is a serious upgrade from X-T20
  • Mic/USB-C/HDMI ports are to close together. If you use one, you block access to the other. You don’t have this problem with Fujifilm X-T3
  • X-T30 battery life lasts 65 minutes when shooting 4K. You can 90 minutes when shooting 1080p
  • When used with external video recorder, the camera shuts down due to overheating after 31 minutes
  • to extend video-life up, turn boost mode off (it affects mainly brightness and EVF refresh rate), pull the LCD screen away from body, mount it on tripod (no hand-holding), less AF-C. He got up to 69 minutes recording this way
  • X-T3 is definitely worth the money if you shoot lots of video. But for shorter family/travel videos, the X-T30 is great

X-T30 Pros

  • Sony lenses tend to be a bit larger, hence X-T30 system is smaller
  • in video the X-T30 has higher bit rate (200 Mbps) whereas the A6400 shoots at 100 Mbps. But higher bit rate does not mean automatically better image quality

A6400 Pros

  • Sony A6400 tripod mount does not block access to battery door
  • A6400 has a better screen design (flippy selfie screen)
  • A6400 lasts longer when it comes to overheating and with high temperature setting enabled, it can last for hours
  • no recording time limits, so no external recorder required
  • true 120 fps at 1080p
  • 3.5 mic jack (X-T20 has 2.5mm mic jack)
  • Sony wins for overall video recording usability
  • battery life is similar, but Sony is a little bit better (around 10 to 15 minutes longer recording time and 50 more stills)
  • A6400 Sony’s RAW buffer is about twice at large

Autofocus in Video

  • for Video, the Sony wins by a little bit
  • X-T30 offers eye detection in video (the Sony A6400 only face detection), but the X-T30 is just a tad slower to catch up to a subject when moving in and out from the camera. The Sony manages to maintain the focus better
  • Both are great, but side by side, you can see the X-T30 autofocus drift a little
  • You can improve this on the X-T30, by increasing autofocus speed, but then it makes focus transition a bit too jumpy. The Sony has a nice balance of offering nice transitions while still locking on the face

Autofocus in Stills

  • in burst photo shooting continuous focus, the Fujifilm X-T30 beats the Sony A6400. The Fujifilm X-T30 hit a 100% hit rate in his test, whereas the Sony A6400, even with more expensive full frame glass, hit about 80%. The X-T30 consistently nails focus

NOTE: the Fujifilm X-T3 will get the same new AF algorithm in a firmware update in April. This means Tony Northrup’ eye-AF comparison between the Fujifilm X-T3 vs Sony A6400, Sony A6500, Sony A9 and Sony A7rIII will be obsolete soon and I hope he will retest it.

Noise and Image Quality

  • likely due to the lens he used, he got sharper results with the Sony A6400. He used the Sigma f/1.4 contemporary crop lens vs the Fujinon XF23mm f/2 [admin note: he uses Adobe, too. If he played with the RAW files, then Capture One Pro 12 or the new Adobe enhance detail feature would have given different results]
  • Fuji is 1 stop noisier, when equalizing the image brightness [admin note: comment about it below]

Conclusions

  • He recommends the Sony A6400 due to more flexibility: selfie screen, better battery life, better video capabilities, deeper grip etc.
  • X-T30 might be the better travel camera, since more compact

Fujifilm X-Pro3 Coming in 2019 – Trusted Source

Fujifilm X-Pro3

According to our trusted sources, the Fujifilm X-Pro3 will come in 2019.

I have no specs for now, but it is safe to assume (personal guess), that it will feature the same sensor and processor of the Fujifilm X-T3.

  • fujirumors –  Fujifilm X-Pro3 Concepts and Share Your X-Pro3 Wish List (includes survey)
  • fujirumors – What to Expect from Fujifilm X-Pro3 (includes another survey)

When exaclty will the Fuji X-Pro3 come?

Well, we have already analyzed the complete Fujifilm X cameras refreshment rate, and if Fujifilm would keep the usual product cycle, the X-Pro3 should be out in January 2020.

Today’s rumor, though, suggest that Fujifilm anticipates the release of the X-Pro2 successor. My personal guess (NOT RUMOR) is that this will happen towards the end of 2019, hence being very close to the January 2020 date.

But to be clear, I have no time indication, which could mean the Fujifilm X-Pro3 could be annouced anytime in 2019. I will let you you know more details as soon as I can.

LEAKED: First Images of Fujifilm X-T30 Dark Gray and Hands On Images of XF 16mm F2.8, XF 16-80mm F4 and GF 50mm F3.5

Fujifilm X-T30 Leak

The Fujifilm X-T30, to be announced on February 14 along with the Fujinon XF16mm f/2.8, will come not only in the traditional black and silver, but also in a Fujifilm X-Pro2 graphite alike color. You can see the first images here on FujiRumors as well some images of the upcoming XF 16mm f/2.8, XF 16-80mm f/4 and GF 50mm f/3.5 shared by dpreview.

Personally I was never really a super fan of the Fujifilm X-T30 design, but I must say this new color raises its “sexiness” quite a bit.

Five Reasons to Switch to Fujifilm for Weddings, From Full Frame DSLR to Fuji X, Worth it? and More Switch Stories

Fuji X Switch Stories

FujiRumors is a 100% independent space.

I don’t get free or discounted gear from Fujifilm, I don’t get special customer service, I don’t get invitations and free flights/hotels to launch parties, I don’t get free t-shirts or hats… and that’s good so.

I wake up, I go to work, I come back home, I blog and I write whatever I want.

This independency allows me to write for example articles like the ones below, that Fujifilm surely did not appreciate:

So actually I don’t think there is one brand out there, that we attacked more than Fujifilm ;).

But my job is not to make Fujifilm happy, but to be loyal to those of you, who decide to read this blog. And hence, I will report everything. Fujifilm does not pay me a penny, and if this blog runs at all, it’s only because you decide to support it.

On the other hand, I can’t hide that I simply fell in love with Fujifilm many years ago, and it’s a love that gets stronger as the years pass by.

So, while I will keep up delivering you everything, every now and then, I also feel like sharing some good switch stories of people, who talk so passionate about Fujifilm.

It’s the same enthusiasm that caught me many years ago, hence, I will share a few of these stories today.

Check them out or not, it’s up to you.

Enjoy your weekend, love you all (even if don’t shoot Fuji ;) )
Patrick
