Fujifilm Firmware Updates for X100V, X-E4, X-Pro3, X-T30II, GFX50R, GFX50SII

As we reported earlier this month, Fujifilm discovered a bug happening with twelve of their cameras when used with Mac computers.

The first batch of firmware had been released a few days ago here and was for the following cameras: X-T4, X-T3, X-S10, GFX100S, GFX100 and GFX50S.

Now six more Fujifilm cameras received an update. All the links and firmware details can be found down below.

Fujifilm GFX50R Discontinued, Zero Rumors About GFX50RII and Dreams About GFX100R

It’s over.

According to reports at digitalcameraworld, the Fujifilm GFX50R is now discontinued.

As a huge Fujifilm X-E line lover, the Fujifilm GFX50R would have been my most natural step into Fujifilm medium format.

However, as I don’t switch from X-Trans APS-C to Full Frame because the difference is negligible (and with lots of advantages on the APS-C side, too), I also thought that sure, going from 26 to 50 MP is OK, but at this point I prefer to go all-in and grab a 100 megapixel medium format Fujifilm GFX100S.

If there was a Fujifilm GFX100R, I’d have grabbed that one. But it looks like all I can do is to hope that one day in the future Fujifilm will give us either a Fujifilm GFX100R or an X-T styled GFX100 (as shown in these official Fujifilm prototypes).

But don’t get me wrong.

A camera with a PSAM dial, a dedicated custom settings dial and top LCD is stupidly easy and fast to operate. The total opposite of the original GFX100, which is the only Fujifilm camera I’ve ever hold in my hands where I thought “WTF, need to grab that owners manual“.

But I can’t really fall in love with cameras that are stupidly easy to use, I prefer those who are FUN to operate. Like my X-E or X-T cameras.

So, my wish for the GFX future are a GFX100R and GFX100T. But so far, I have absolutely zero rumors about it. And for the records, I have also zero rumors about a Fujifilm GFX50RII.

Good bye, Fujifilm GFX50R. I was one of the very first people to touch you, back then, at the photokina 2018, where I even illegally smuggled into the fair one day ahead of its official launch to meet you. May your heritage continue to live in the GFX lineup.

Fujifilm GFX100S Record Pre-Orders on FujiRumors: It Beats GFX100, GFX50S and GFX50R… Combined!

On Friday we reported how BHphoto marked the Fujifilm GFX100S as top seller.

I decided to check how pre-orders are going here on FujiRumors… and what I saw was rather unexpected.

The first days of Fujifilm GFX100S pre-orders were stronger than the first days of the GFX100, GFX50S and GFX50R pre-orders combined!

Also, it the GFX100S enjoys stronger pre-orders than any mid range Fujifilm X series camera, such as the X-S10 and X-E4.

Only high end X-series cameras like the X-T4 and X100V still have an advantage over the GFX100S.

Sure, this data is restricted to FujiRumors pre-orders (where mid-range is never selling that well). But in my experience, the more high end we go, the more sales made via FujiRumors can be representative for overall sales for high end cameras (meaning a high end camera that does not sell well among the FR-community, also does not sell well overall on the market).

If so also this time, then this means that Fujifilm landed a big hit with the Fujifilm GFX100S, and I am afraid they’ll need a long time to satisfy all pre-orders!

And to every single one of you, who decided to pre-order their new gear via FujiRumors: thanks so much! I will reward your help with some hot rumors ;).

Size Comparison: Fujifilm GFX100S vs Canon R5 vs Sony A7IV vs Nikon Z5 vs GFX50R vs GFX50S vs GFX100 vs X-T4

Here is a quick size comparison I made between the upcoming Fujifilm GFX100S and the GFX50R, Sony A7rIV and the Canon R5.

For a sensor 70% fuller than full frame, the camera looks pretty damn compact if you ask me, considering that it has IBIS.

Well, fellow FR-readers, my wife is having some contractions right now, so whenever she gives me the signal, I will grab the car and drive her to the hospital. I might be offline for a little bit, but if anyone of you wants to make more size comparisons, feel free to share it in the comments down below for the community.

In fact, FR-reader Steven already made one for us, by overlaying the Fujifilm GFX100S to the Fujifilm GFX50S and Fujifilm GFX group member Bipin overlayed the GFX100S to the original Fujifilm GFX100 and the Fujifilm GFX50R.

You guys are the best!!!

Fujifilm GFX – A Success Story

Soon the world will meet the Fujifilm GFX100S. And from all the specs leaked so far, we can easily say it will be a huge shock for the market (especially considering its price).

It will be Fuji’s 4th medium format camera after the Fujifilm GFX50S, the Fujifilm GFX50R and the Fujifilm GFX100.

Overall, Fujifilm’s medium format journey has been a huge success. The Fujifilm GFX100 sold much better then what Fujifilm predicted in its own (already optimistic) forecast, as FujiRumors told you here and Fujifilm managers confirmed later on here. The Fujifilm GFX50R grew up to be a winner thanks to a very aggressive price. But nothing would have been possible, if the first camera, the Fujifilm GFX50S, would not have been as successful as it was.

The strategy is clear, as top Fujifilm manager Toshihisa IIlda explained here: “Top full frame cameras are priced around $3,000-5,000. Fujifilm targets those customers to expand customer base“.

And with a price tag of $5,999 for a 102 megapixel GFX100S with IBIS, Fujifilm is pursuing this strategy very agressively.

So far it seems to work out well. As the manager told us here, “70-80% of GFX customers are coming from non-Fuji cameras. Most probably from full frame DSLR cameras.”

Toshihisa IIda ends up his very interesting talk about the GFX system by saying “The GFX system is really good business for Fujifilm“.

If you want to read more, including what the manager says about the Fujifilm X-H2 and the full frame attack strategy, feel free to check out this post.

Now back to us :).

Today I’d like to share a Fujifilm GFX roundup. It will probably be the last one with the GFX100, GFX50S and GFX50R at the core of it, as I am pretty sure that starting from January 27 the Fujifilm GFX100S will claim the throne and monopolize the attention.

So, there will be comparisons, bug reports, reviews, technical tests, photo reportage and a lot more.

Feel free to check it out down below.

Fujifilm Releases Firmware Updates for Fujifilm GFX100 (Pixel Shift), GFX50S and GFX50R

Fujifilm has release firmware updates for Fujifilm GFX cameras, which include the long promised pixel shift firmware for GFX100.

The firmware update Ver.3.00 from Ver.2.01 incorporates the following issues:

  1. Pixel Shift Multi-Shot function is added.
In the Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode, the camera takes a series of 16 RAW images and by using in-body image stabilization(IBIS), moves the image sensor to get a high-resolution and real color* image. The multiple images are then combined to create a Digital Negative (DNG) RAW file using the FUJIFILM Pixel Shift Combiner software.
    * real color : As a pixel of an image sensor has one color filter from red, green or blue, we cannot detect the real color for the pixel. We need to interpolate the other colors from the surrounding pixel data for that pixel. This is called the demosaicing process. In case of Pixel Shift Multi-Shot photography, we can receive red, green and blue data for every pixel position. This means we receive real color information when using Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode and the demosaicing process is not necessary.
  2. Ratings to images recorded in the [Jpeg + RAW] mode are applied to both Jpeg and RAW files.
  3. The phenomenon is fixed that in a multiple-flash shooting where the EF-X500 is used as a commander, flashes in some groups sometimes don’t fire correctly. Also in case the EF-X500 is used as a commander and the EF-60 as a remote flash, upgrade the camera firmware to the latest version.
  4. Accuracy of the Eye AF function for the front eye is improved
  5. Fix of minor bugs.
