Fujifilm FF230001 Camera Registration Found: Fujifilm X-S20 and Fujifilm GFX100 Replacement?

Fujifilm has registered a new camera with the codename FF230001, as spotted by the Japanese website Asobinet.

So at this point we have two registered and yet unannounced cameras

FujiRumors has so far rumored two cameras coming in 2023:

I can’t say with certainty that the codename stands for those two cameras, because it could be also another camera.

These codenames could also indicate other cameras.

But one thing I can say with 100% certainty: I am aware of Fujifilm X-Pro4 and Fujifilm GFX50R replacement rumors, but those are 100% fake clickbait rumors.

We remind you that Fujifilm has an announcement on May 24. It will be a very interesting day for us Fujifilm shooters :).

Registrations:

  • Codename: FF230001

LEAKED: This is the Sensor of the Fujifilm X-S20

Let’s talk Fujifilm X-S20.

And more precisely, let’s share the probably most important rumor I can share about it: the sensor it will have.

According to trusted sources, the Fujifilm X-S20 will feature the 26MP BSI X-Trans IV sensor, so exactly the same sensor we currently have on the Fujifilm X-T4, X-T3, X-S10 and many other Fujifilm cameras.

As an owner of the 40MP Fujifilm X-T5 sensor, my personal wish would be to see that sensor in as many future Fujifilm X series cameras as possible, but I am well aware that many of you consider the combo 26MP + X-Processor 5 to be the best option for the Fujifilm X-S20.

Why?

Well, I have written about it in depth here:

So, there are Pros and Cons in the choice Fujifilm made, which makes me definitely curious to see what the Fujifilm X-S20 will be able to deliver by using this combo.

NOTE: I don’t have rumors about the processor on the Fujifilm X-S20, but I assume it will use the X-Processor 5.

Fujifilm X-S20 coming with NP-W235 Battery (Rumor) but not in April (Speculation)

Quick update regarding the Fujifilm X-S20.

We know the Fujifilm X Summit in April has been canceled and the next X Summit will take place in May.

But this hasn’t changed what we told you already a long time ago: the next Fujifilm X series camera to come will be the Fujifilm X-S20. Sure, this means that in theory it is still possible we will get a new GFX camera before the X-S20 or along with it. But as for X series, the X-S20 is next.

So when will it come? Could Fujifilm announce the X-S20 in April, just don’t make an X Summit about it?

Well, yes they definitely could. Not all Fujifilm cameras get their X summit. But since the X-S20 is a very important camera for Fujifilm, I believe they’ll honor it with an X-Summit. It’s not a rumor, but a speculation. And I’d be very surprised if I was wrong.

The second rumor instead is a trusted rumor: the Fujifilm X-S20 will use the newer NP-W235 battery. I hope Fujifilm will be able to keep the camera body super small like on the current X-S10 body despite the new larger battery.

Fujifilm X-S20 is Coming (but When?) – Some Clarifications and Speculations

We confirm 100% what we already told you: the next Fujifilm X series camera to come will be the Fujifilm X-S20.

But when exactly will be announced?

Will it happen during the Fujifilm X Summit in April as many would guess (me included)?

Well, why not. The X summit in April is definitely a very hot candidate for the X-S20 announcement.

But just to be clear and precise: our sources only said that the Fujifilm X-S20 will be Fuji’s next X series camera, and they did not give us any further time indication, which is why right now in theory everything is still possible, even an announcement before or after the X summit in April (as well as during the X summit of course).

Also, our sourced said “X series camera”, hence we talk about Fuji’s APS-C lineup.

Last thing: the fact that the X-S20 will be the next X camera to come does not exclude that also other cameras could be announced on the same day.

I know, lots of questions and speculations. I will now work on all of this and once I have solid updates, I will let you know.

Which 5th Generation Sensor do You Want in the Fujifilm X-T5, X-Pro4, X-E5, X-S20, X-T40, X80, X200?

When I re-watched the X Summit, I was confused by the statement the Japanese Fujifilm manager made in regards to the 5th generation 26MP stacked and 40MP non-stacked sensor.

His statement:

there is no other camera platform more suitable to have them both than the ‘X-H” Series

I wondered what he meant by that, and I concluded it could be either one of the 2 options mentioned below:

  1. only the X-H line will offer both sensor options
  2. since the X-H line is the most suitable, it will be the first to feature both sensor options. Other less suitable lines might get both options too, but only later on as the priority is the X-H line
  3. NEW ENTRY: some FR-reader said this is just marketing blah blah blah aimed to sell as many X-H cameras as possible and then both sensors will find its way in most camera lines anyway

I’ve asked you guys in a survey what you think the manager meant, and here is the result of the survey.

SPECULATION (NOT RUMOR): In my eyes, it would make sense to put both sensor options in at least all of Fuji’s higher end models, as ordering the same Sony sensor in larger numbers, helps to push down the cost for each sensor.

But what Fujifilm will decide to do is unknown at this point. And maybe it is even unknown to Fujifilm itself.

And yet…

let’s assume for a moment that the interpretation the majority of you guys gave is correct. So let’s assume that only the X-H line will get both sensor options.

This would mean that in regards to all other lines, Fujifilm would have to make a decision on which sensor to pick for each camera.

And if that would be the case, I can already see lots of head scratching at the Fujifilm HQ trying to figure out which sensor is best for which line.

If that’s really the case, then I thought that the generous FujiRumors community will gladly invest a bit of its time to give Fujifilm its opinion on this matter by commenting on this article and by voting the surveys down below.

Fujifilm X-M5 Review: Autofocus is A Great Surprise – PhotoTrend

One of the most prestigious French photography websites, PhotoTrend, has now published its Fujifilm X-M5 review.

I will only highlight what they said about its autofocus.

And yes, they do talk very good about it.

And yes, there are people who told you the X-M5 autofocus is total garbage.

And yes, they based their judgments on 1.5 seconds of video extrapolated from hours of launch video.

And yes, that’s not really a smart way to judge the autofocus.

Why?

Well, look at the Sony A1II.

There have been lots of A1II launch videos, and when I looked at the one of Tony Northrup, I saw the Sony A1II occasionally focusing on hats and shoulders rather than faces and eyes as you can see in this screenshot and this screenshot – video here.

Now I could extract those few seconds of video and go out and claim the Sony A1II struggles to track eyes. But I won’t do that, because it would not be fair towards the Sony A1 II.

It’s better to wait for full reviews with production cameras. And today we have one, from Phototrend. You can trust them or not.

My personal position is: I am curious about what reviewers say, but I will wait for my X-T5 AF boost firmware to make final judgements.

With that said, here is what Phototrend says about the Fujifilm X-M5 autofocus.

Thanks to the X-Processor 5, the Fujifilm X-M5 benefits from the latest autofocus improvements. And we might as well say it: the latter bluffed us several times.

From a technical point of view, the body has an AI-doped hybrid AF, with 425 AF points (and 117 selectable positions). But above all, it takes advantage of the intelligent detection / tracking modes of the subject, already present on the other boxes in the range.

And in the field, the detection and monitoring of the subject are very effective. Humans or animals: the eye is detected instantly, even when the subject occupies only a small place in the frame. A point that portraitists (and lovers of wildlife photography) should appreciate.

In addition, the box always offers modes dedicated to birds and vehicles (trains, cars, planes, motorcycles). Enough to seduce fans from all walks of life. Especially since the detection is extremely effective.

In plain language: the autofocus of the X-M5 is very efficient. In general, the development is carried out without delay. Pumping phenomena are very rare, even in (very) low light. Caution, however, with certain zooms or fixed focal lengths (especially a little old), whose AF motorization can sometimes be less fast.

Finally, note that the number of “false positives” is particularly low. Fujifilm would therefore have corrected the few small problems suffered by the X-S20.

Fujifilm Launches X Deals in Europe

Fujifilm has launched new Fujifilm X deals in Europe. They pretty much match the deals in USA, although there are some differences.

The deals are instant rebates in UK and I think also in France, but they are cashback deals in Germany, which means in Germany, after your purchase, go to this page and claim your money back.

If you buy at Amazon, make sure to buy gear shipped and sold by Amazon to access the Cashback. But attention: Amazon Germany is listed among the official retailers, but not Amazon France. In UK its an instant rebate and that works also on Amazon UK.

I have not yet found the deals listed in Italy and other countries, so make sure to check out the conditions in your country before purchasing. Select the promotion in your country on this page here. And you can always give your local retailer a call, they also know all the details of the deals.
