When it comes to getting a new camera, it can sometimes be a daunting task. A number of people have asked me what settings to apply when you first get the camera, so this will cover off what I would recommend setting up and why. Some of this will be a bit subjective so if you disagree, you probably know enough about the settings to know why.

I’ll continue to update this article and include the date at the top of the article as I update to ensure that readers are aware of whether it has been updated to include a specific version. If you think I’ve missed anything in the article, please let me know at the bottom in comments. When I set this up I went through my menu’s looking at the items that were important to me, but I could well have missed something.

This guide is specific to the newer range of cameras, the X-H1, X-T2, X-E3 and alike, but most of these settings could probably be applied to almost any Fujifilm camera.

Fujifilm X-T2 Kaizen Firmware – The Day After the Big Party – Bug Reports Anyone?

Josh Lewis Youtube – Fujifilm X-T2 Firmware 4.00 Major Flaw. Basically when shooting F-log with an external monitor plugged in via HDMI, the X-T2 shows it is recording onto the SD-card, but in fact it is not. Can anyone duplicate the issue or maybe there is some camera setting to change?

Fujifilm X-T2 Firmware – The Day After

Yesterday it was another huge Kaizen firmware day, this time for Fujifilm X-T2 owners, who basically could download a complete new camera for free.

If you haven’t seen it already, then make sure to go back to the original post, which got massive comments.

The upgrade for the Fujifilm X-T2 was so big, that some Fujifilm X-H1 owners were even a bit annoyed by it, since Fujifilm now brought the X-T2 almost on par with the brand new X-H1 (besides IBIS, 200 mbps and other minor things). But overall the feedback was mostly very enthusiastic.

Firmware Bugs Report

However, the FR-community asked me to launch a “bugs report” article… and here it is.

This feedback will be good for Fujifilm, who, as you know, reads us with greatest care, but also for us mere mortal X-shooters, because we can see if firmware 4.00 has introduced some bugs.

Also, maybe some out there, who are not yet familiar with the new features, could consider bugs some things that are actually wrong settings in the camera, and you guys can eventually help those of us, who are setting the camera wrong.

Fujifilm Reads You

As you know, FujiRumors is Fujifilm’s reference website for Fuji X and GFX online customer feedback  (I mean, even Fujifilm’s top manager Toshihisa Iida “loves” FujiRumors, not to talk that Fujifilm also uses our polls in private meetings ;) ).

This is no surprise, since here on FR, for example, we can collect 10,000 poll votes in just 3 days and in 2017 we had a total of 45,261 comments (124 comments a day).

Your massive feedback simply can’t be ignored by Fujifilm.

So first of all thanks to every single one of you, who reads FR, votes the polls and comments.

Feel free to keep it up :)

Fujifilm X-H1 Review by Chris & Jordan at DPReview (former TCSTV). Did You Know You Can Adjust the Shutter Button to 3 Different Strength Levels?

Fujifilm X-H1 Review

You probably all know at this time, that Chris and Jordan have left TheCameraStoreTV and are now part of the DPReview team.

They now released their Fujifilm X-H1 review at the dpreivew youtube channel, “the best mismarketed camera out there” according to Chris.

Here are some highlights:

FujiRumors is everywhere: Facebook, RSS-feed, Instagram, Youtube and Twitter

STILLS

  • large professional looking body, but lighter than DSLR’s
  • Fujifilm gives us lots of different body choices (X-Pro2, X-T20, X-T2, X-E3 etc…)
  • very weather sealed
  • one of the best EVF’s they have ever used. Blows away the X-T2 viewfinder
  • not great battery life
  • in very low light with critical conditions, AF is doable, but not perfect (50% shots in focus)
  • touch AF is laggy, better use the joystick
  • eye AF not as good as Sony
  • it is important to set the right AF custom mode to make the best out of the AF system
  • Handles flare better than older cameras
  • Chris loves the quiet mechanical shutter

VIDEO

  • Great hybrid camera
  • Eterna is great for video, Jordan’s favorite profile for videos
  • fantastic EVF, no need to punch in to check focus
  • touch silent interface for video recording. All operates from touch screen and keeps settings separated from stills. Great idea. But touch screen control can be cumbersome and laggy
  • linear focussing with focus by wire lenses is an enormously important feature
  • camera never overheats. But 15 minutes recording limit without battery grip
  • exposure changes in 1/3 stop… should be smoother
  • IBIS quite effective

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Chris got used to the new shutter button and likes it. But if it is too soft for your taste, Chris says you can send it in to Fujifilm and they will adjust it to one of the three different strengths levels you prefer. Here on FujiRumors we have already reported about this possibility, but it’s a good reminder in case you have missed it.

Make sure to check out the whole video at dpreview youtube here.

Fujifilm X-T100 with 24 MP Bayer Sensor and Selfie Screen. Do You Want a Fujifilm X-T3 with Selfie Screen? – POLL

Fujifilm X-T100

Hey all…

So you really missed it? I just had birthday!!!

But don’t worry… I am so busy at the moment, I almost forgot that I have birthday by myself, seriously.

Luckily a source didn’t forget it, and decided to make me… and hence all of you.. a little rumor-birthday present :).

It’s about the Fujifilm X-T100.

When we first shared the first Fujifilm X-T100 rumor back in September 2017 (!!!) we told you that this will be a camera that will cost less than the Fujifilm X-T20.

A few days later, we were told it will have a Bayer sensor, hence joining the X-A series as Fujifilm’s so far only Bayer sensor cameras.

Well, this morning I had a chat with a source, and it passed me two more rumors about the Fujifilm X-T100

  • 24 Megapixel Bayer sensor
  • Selfie Screen

If true, then this would be Fuji’s first DSLR-style camera (centered viewfinder with hump), to have a selfie screen.

Unlike the Fujifilm X70 and X-A cameras, the screen won’t tilt upwards, since there is the viewfinder in the way. The source could not give me further details (it does not know if it tilts down or out on the side), but it is sure the screen is “Selfie-fit”.

Of course I asked further details, but the source does not know more at this moment. However, I submitted a bunch of questions, and it told me it will try to find out more about it, if possible. If you have questions too, drop them in the comments… the source will read them and eventually add them to my list of questions.

But this is just the beginning… follow FujiRumors on Facebook, RSS-feed, Instagram, Youtube and Twitter to get more rumors :)

Fujifilm X-T3

Here on FujiRumors we have already leaked the core specs and more of the Fujifilm X-T3. A little recap:

But speaking of Selfie screens, would you like a Selfie screen like the X-T100 also on the X-T3? Feel free to vote the Poll down below and to motivate your choice in the comments.

BREAKING: Fujifilm X-T3 with 26 Megapixel (Stacked) Sensor

Fujifilm X-T3

According to our sources, the Fujifilm X-T3 will have a 26 Megapixel sensor, which confrims the “less than 30MP” rumor we shared a few months ago.

One more detail: at this stage we think it will most likely have the same stacked sensor technology of the Sony A9, but take it with a grain of salt for now. I share an update for you guys as soon as possible.

Make sure to stay tuned on FR via Facebook, RSS-feed and Twitter to get all the latest rumors & news.

What is a “stacked sensor”?

The stacked sensor allows a super-fast sensor readout and hence extremely fast AF measurments, blackout-less EVF almost no rolling shutter and more.

If the rumor is correct, then there will be 3 main aspects, that will make the Fujifilm X-T3 a speed monster:

  • stacked sensor (allows fast sensor readout)
  • “only” 26MP (not excessively many megapixel means less data to elaborate for the processor)
  • new X-Processor

Keep in mind that, as we also already told you, the Fujifilm X-T3 will not have IBIS and be announced around photokina 2018 (September)

Now go and spread the word on social media, blogs and forums… and quote the source ;)

all the best,

Fujifilm X-H1: Double Exposure Music Video and More Stunning Work… and Does Gear Matter?

Fujifilm X-H1… the Other Roundup :)

Yesterday we shared a more technical Fujifilm X-H1 roundup: pixel peeping, comparisons etc.

Today I’d like to focus on actual work produced with Fujifilm’s latest flagship APS-C camera. And it might be a bit of a surprise, but it’s true: investing in your creativity and your vision, will improve your video – and photography more than any new gear you can buy ;) . Regarding this topic, I’ll share a video of Ming Cai down below, who investigates the question, if gear really does matter.

Let’s start…

… with an amazing music BTS video of Rick Joaquim shared at FujiFilm South Africa Youtube. Rick is also a member of our Fujifilm X-H1 group, and he explains:

I had been toying around with the idea of a #DoubleExposure music video for while and thought this would be the perfect project to try it out on. […] Lots of trial and error doing Double Exposures in post. Was all done in After Effects

Again, make sure to check out the video at  FujiFilm South Africa Youtube.

And here is some more actual work done with the Fujifilm X-H1.

Fujifilm GFX: 18mm and 45mm Macro Extension Tubes Coming + GF 100-200, GF 35mmF2.8 and GF 20-36mm Rumors

It’s still not on the official GF lens roadmap, but if our new source is correct, than there will be 2 new extension tubes coming for the Fujifilm GFX (around 45mm and 18mm).

The current Fujinon G Mount roadmap shows a GF 1.4x Teleconverter and a GF 250mmF4. But of course there will be more coming this year than just this.

In fact, we rumored back in April 2017, that there will be a GF 100-200. At that time, Fujifilm was unsure if they will launch the 100-200 or the GF 20-36mm F3.5-4.5 first (as you can see in the “secret” roadmap), and Fujifilm went for the 100-200.

The same “secret” roadmap, lists also the GF 35mm F2.8 for mid 2018.

BREAKING: Fujifilm X-T3 and GFX 100S will Have Interchangeable FULL FRAME, APS-C and Monochrome Sensor Similar to Ricoh GXR/S10

Fujifilm X-T3

Do you like Full Frame? Do you prefer APS-C? Is X-Trans your thing or do you want a Bayer sensor? Or maybe you always dreamed of a monochrome sensor?

Don’t worry, to get all of this, you will need just one camera, the Fujifilm X-T3.

Our top trusted Japanese source just told us that the Fujifilm X-T3 will have an interchangeable lens/processor/sensor.

The concept is similar to the one used by the Ricoh GXR/S10, where basically lens, sensor and processor will be integrated into 1 single unit, that you can switch how you prefer.

Our trusted source told us, that at the Fujifilm X-T3 launch in September 2018, the Fujifilm X-T3 will be offered with:

  • 24MP APS-C X-Trans sensor
  • New X-Trans sensor with less than 30MP
  • 24MP BSI Bayer Full Frame sensor of Sony A7III
  • Monochrome 24MP Full Frame Sensor of Leica M Monochrom
  • organic APS-C sensor with global shutter

Along with the Fujifilm X-T3, Fujifilm will also launch the first two Full Frame lenses:

  • XFF 35mm F1.8
  • XFF 70-200mm F2.8

I asked our Japanese source if it will have also the option of a Medium Format sensor, but the source said MF sensor would make the Fujifilm X-T3 chassis too big, and Fujifilm wants to keep it smaller than the X-H1.

Fuji’s idea is to offer a Fujifilm X-T3, where you guys can still perfectly use all your current APS-C lenses, but if you want, you can slowly transition to full frame and finally spend more money on bigger FF glass.

The source also told us, that the new system is the real reason, why the Fujifilm X-T3 will not have IBIS: it is just technically too complicated at the moment to make an interchangeable sensor system with IBIS incorporated.

The price of the Fujifilm X-T3 will be “extremely agressive” said the source and “lower than current X-T2 price“.

You can check out the Ricoh GXR/S10 to get more details on how it works.

Fujifilm GFX 100S

The source also told us that the Fujifilm GFX 100S will also have a completely interchangeable sensor/processor unit, and in this case Fujifilm will offer a monochrome medium format sensor as well as an APS-C X-Trans sensor, so that people, upgrading from APS-C to Medium Format, will be able to use all their Fujinon XF glass on the GFX 100S without needing any adapter

No Full Frame sensor will be offered for the Fujifilm GFX 100S.

On the other hand, the Fujifilm GFX 50R will remain with a fixed MF sensor. The goal of this camera is to make it as cheap as possible.

Stay tuned on FR, not only on April 1st ;) … via Facebook, RSS-feed, Instagram, Youtube and Twitter

all the best,
