Fujifilm X-S10 Coming with X-T4 alike Selfie Screen

You guys are really getting better ;).

When we shared the first rumors of the upcoming Fujifilm X-S10, many of you predicted it would have a selfie screen (or let’s call it “vary-angle screen“, which sounds more “professional“).

Well, you were absolutely right.

The Fujifilm X-S10 will indeed have a selfie screen, and to be more precise, the X-T4 selfie screen (not the unique X-T100 screen).

In my opinion, unless you shoot selfie video/photos, the 3-way tilt screen of the X-T3 is the better way to go, as it will always stay nicely centered to your camera and never go in the way of your strap (I wrote about how annoyed I am that my Peak Design strap always covers the X-T4 selfie screen when I tilt it out).

Yep, you can tilt the X-T4 screen inwards to protect the LCD, but a ridiculously cheap X-T4 screen protector will do the same job.

The real advantage of the selfie screen is one, and only one: when tilted inwards, the camera looks even more vintage. And I like that :).

But if you stand behind the camera, and not in front, a regular 3-way tilt screen is just better.

To be fair, as a teacher during COVID-19 times, I must admit the selfie screen on my X-T4 served me very well. But if it wasn’t for that, I’d see no point in selfie screens.

Hungry for Fujifilm X-H2, Visions for X-T5, Hopes for X80, Modular Fujifilm GFX, Monochrome and More – FR Readers Wishlist Corner

Fujifilm Wishlist Corner

In response to the terrific response to our first FR-readers wishlist corner article and the massive feedback I have received via email by fellow Fuji X/GFX shooters, here is the second episode of this series.

This series is all about your wishes about future Fujifilm cameras, lenses, firmware features and whatever you desire to see in Fuji’s future.

As I did receive tons of emails last time, I will focus this FR-readers wishlist corner mainly on cameras… lenses and firmware will follow at a later point.

The Hunger for X-H2

It’s interesting to note that most of the wishes gravitate around the Fujifilm X-H2, proving that there is a huge “hunger” for a Fujifilm X-H1 successor.

The (now discontinued) Fujifilm X-H1 was initially a disaster in terms of sales. However, X-H1 sales revived later on thanks to terrific deals that gave it a sales-glory-moment.

The reason for the overall failure of the Fujifilm X-H1 was not its concept, but its timing: a few months later the Fujifilm X-T3 followed with new sensor and processor. I never understood this move by Fujifilm.

And yet, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Fujifilm X-H1, which, I remind you, snapped the top winning image at the World Press Photo awards.

I am strongly convinced that with the Fujifilm X-H2, Fuji is sitting on a potentially big winner.

Many X shooters would like a Fujifilm X-H2 right now, but as FujiRumors always told you, you have to be patient. Fujifilm is not going to repeat the errors made in the past. When the Fujifilm X-H2 will hit the market, it will be the right moment, have the right features and give the X-H line the position it deserves: right on the top of the high end X series line-up!

What’s Next?

Do you have wishes about the Fujifilm future, too? Well, then write me at fujirumor@gmail.com.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Patrick

Fuji Guys Explain Which Battery Power Banks are Best for Your Fujifilm Cameras

Fuji Guy Billy shows you the different battery pack options to power your Fujifilm cameras.

  • standard 5V power banks will charge your batteries slower and can’t power your camera while you use it. But it’s a cheap alternative to charge your batteries while your camera is turned off
  • what you should get, is a power deliver battery bank. It can output much higher than 5 volts. For example, the Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD (which I own, too), can output up to 20V
  • with higher voltage, you can power your camera
  • if you want to power your camera, use the USB-C PD (power delivery) connection that is on the power bank
  • many of those power banks come with high power deliver wall charger
  • you can connect the wall charger directly to the camera, and it becomes basically your AC Adapter
  • when you buy a power bank, make sure it states “PD” for “power delivery”

Fujifilm officially recommends the following PD power banks on their website.

Fujfiilm X-T4

The Fujifilm X-T4 hit the market a few months ago, but overall passed a bit unnoticed, as, you know, the world was busy handling with other issues in the last few months.

But the X-T series is and remains the one camera line, that gives Fujifilm the biggest financial success, and as a consequence the camera line most X shooters own.

So, today we dedicate a roundup to the Fujifilm X-T4, a camera that is giving great satisfaction to owners (me included).

In today’s roundup, we have:

  • X-T4 feedback we received from FR-reader Tom
  • comparisons with Sony A7III and Panasonic S1H
  • a review from a Sony user perspective
  • a review of X-T4 for wildlife photography
  • and much more

Some of the videos come with handy FujiRumors-made summary ;).

My First Trip with My Fujifilm X-T4: What I Loved, What I Hated… and Unveiling What I Really Teach at School

Hey all,

It’s done, I made it. An unreal school year is over.

It was A LOT of work for me, to teach online, but I took it also as an opportunity to explore new creative ways of teaching.

And surely it came to my help, that I can use Final Cut Pro X, I have several tripods and cameras etc, as this allowed me to have the tools and skills to translate into video my creative ideas.

X-T4 for my My Job

You must know, that I live in Italy.

But in a part of Italy, where a German minority lives (video of my province). This is why I speak both languages, Italian and German, fluently.

Also, I am a primary school teacher, so I teach German to kids that belong to the Italian language group. Hence German is their second language.

And since my “customers” are kids, I’ve tried to always throw something fun into my lessons, just to put some lightness into a situation that was very hard for them.

For example, in one video, I triplicated myself and made up a fun conversation between three Patrick’s during Grammar lesson, as you can see from the screenshot here.

Looks like it was rather successful, as you can hear from the Whattsapp audio one of my students send me. Who would have said that grammar can be so fun ;).

That’s something I could have never done in the classroom, and only the online teaching allowed me to do.

I started by filming everything with my X-E3, but once I got the X-T4, I switched to it as my main camera, and it has surely served me better than my X-E3, because:

  • the selfie screen was useful and practical
  • ETERNA was glorious
  • longer recording times
  • better video quality
  • more creative tools (like super-slow motion)
  • IBIS for when my wife had to film me handheld for stable footage
  • solid battery life

So, my first impact with the X-T4 was pure love! Everything I needed, it did it better than my X-E3.

But life is not only video…

X-T4 for my Passion

Last weekend I drove down to Tuscany with my wife (it’s a 4 hours drive only from my home), as a little reward for a frankly extremely busy time.

On that trip, I used the Fujifilm X-T4 only for photography.

Here is what I liked, and what not.

Loves

  • overall performance… it’s a beast
  • shutter sound is so buttery smooth
  • battery life: it just kept running, and running, and running… awesome!
  • I have my ISO dial back
  • oh… a D-Pad, how nice is that

Hates

  • no more one handed operation (on my X-E3 every button and dial is on the right side of the camera and can easily be operated with the right hand only)
  • bigger and heavier (although with some lenses this is actually better)
  • for reviewing images on LCD, I always have to flip screen out. On the other hand this helps to review images less, like with the hidden X-Pro3 LCD

And the Selfie Screen?

Well, the selfie screen deserves a special chapter.

I found some unexpected love for it, as well as one hate.

Loves

  • keep it tilt inwards protects the screen
  • keep it tilt inwards makes the camera look so wonderful vintage
  • keep it tilt inwards and you’ll review images way less, like on X-Pro3
  • keep it tilt inwards and you won’t accidentally activate the touch screen, which happens to me now and then on the X-E3 (I keep the touch LCD always deactivated on my X-E3, but it activates if I accidentally touch the upper right part of the screen)
  • for my video lessons, I just loved it
  • unlike the X-T100 screen, the X-T4 can tilt also in portrait mode

Hates

  • I use the Peak Design Leash camera strap, and when I tilted out the screen, sometimes the strap covered the screen, so I had to move the strap behind the screen. Hence, not only it takes a bit more time to tilt out the screen (as opposed to only flip it out on X-T3), but then also fiddle around with the strap. This was probably the most annoying aspect of the selfie screen. So much so, that I think I am considering to get Peak Design Cuff camera wrist strap and solve the “problem”

Conclusion?

Well, if it wasn’t for the selfie videos I had to do, I’d still consider the X-T3 and X-H1 screen design superior for my needs. But on the other hand the selfie screen has some advantages, that you can’t get with X-T3 screen, especially if you use mostly the EVF and want to keep the LCD tilted inwards.

Hence, I am happy with the X-T4 screen.

Images Anyone?

So, how was my Tuscany mini-trip?

Awesome!

And although we had only one day of good weather, and the other two were rainy and misty, I had lots of fun to be simply out and photograph again.

I shared one image on my Instagram page already, where I tested Classic Negative.

Classic Negative is great. Sometimes it doesn’t work at all, but when it works, it’s just awesome. In street photography it will surely shine, but also in landscape photography, as you can see below, it can give lovely results.

Now I have to get some paperwork done for the end of the school, and after that, I might share more images of my trip on Instagram… and bring you with me on my summer holidays, where so far I have planed nothing actually, except to climb my beloved Dolomites.

take care and have fun with your photography,
Patrick

Fujifilm BAYER vs X-TRANS Blind Test: 88% of Preferences Go To…

Almost 2 years ago, I wrote a comprehensive article comparing the virtues of Bayer vs X-Trans sensor, giving you reasons why Fujifilm should stick with X-Trans, and on the other hand telling you also why for other reasons Fujifilm should leave X-Trans for its APS-C sensors.

Attention: it’s a long article. So do not click this link, if you don’t like it when my articles are too long.

I stand by everything I said back then.

Of course the debate is not ending. Hence, Andrew did what probably is the best thing to do, to evaluate which sensor is better: a blind test.

200+ people commented on his video, and since people do not like long articles, I will leave it to you to read them all, take paper and pen, and note all the results.

Nah… you know what?

I’ll do it for you. I love it when I simplify your life and save you some time.

So, I’ve checked out all the comments, and marked the results on a paper.

There were some (not many) cases, where people didn’t have a clear preference and said that both are very good.

In most cases, people had a rather clear preference.

Sometimes people got more or less equal results between 2 cameras, in which case I gave a point to each camera.

The cameras tested are:

And here are the results people shared in the comments:
