Godox Releases TT685 F and V860 II F with Firmware Ver. 1.0

The TT685 F and the V860 II F are now shipping, and hence, you can find on the Godox firmware page, the original ver.1.0 firmware. See the firmware here.

And just recently (August 21) Godox updated the X1TF controller with HSS support for Fujifilm GFX 50s and X100F and more  – read here. And regading this X1TF update, I got the following email by Markus Klinko… and he asks for feedback if possible…

– X1T-F easily crashes, or semi-crashes and needs to be re-set, batteries taken out etc.
I never had this issue when using the RoboSHOOT MX20 with the Godox X1T-N.
But it def was a bit glitchy in other ways.

– the new firmware V03 works actually less good with GFX. The previous version
was able to recognize when to go into HSS and back to normal flash, while V03
only recognizes when shutter speeds are set above sync speed, and does move into HSS,
but coming back to 1/125, it keeps the flashes in HSS mode. Once test flash is fired from the trigger
itself, the flashes go back to normal flash. Its not a huge deal, but indicative that sometime is wrong with V03.

The Godox system is quickly becoming the favorite flash system amongst Fuji shooters. And that’s not really a surprise. Very affordable, performs very well, gets lots of firmware updates and it’s just great value for money.

And given the growing popularity of the Godox system, here on Fujirumors we are happy to report regulary about it. Just search for “Godox” on FujiRumors, to get quick access to all previous Godox articles.

Godox X1T-F Transmitter

Today, Godox has released a Firmware update for their X1T-F transmitter.

  1. To add the support of FUJIFILM GFX 50s camera.
  2. To add C.Fn custom settings. The transmitter’s parameters that set by Godox APP are not changed. And the transmitter is only for triggering.
  3. To add the support of X100F、X100T cameras.Reach to 1/1250s high-speed sync in shutter (all unclosed groups must be set to M mode)
  4. To solve the problem that when the TT600 and V850II are set as receivers, flashes cannot be triggered in high-speed mode(all unclosed groups must be set to M mode)

You can download the new firmware (via Windows) at this Godox page.

Short summary by FR-reader Steven – svw-photography (thanks for notifying me via email):

There is a new function setting (f11) that enables support for the non-TTL strobes. It has to be set at 02. All groups must be set to manual mode. If you set one to TTL, the non-TTL strobes won’t fire at anything above sync speed.
I tested with TT600 and it works. I’ve read on a FB page that the AD360 version 1 (non TTL) also works

What has also been fixed is the support for X100F and X100T. Now shutterspeeds up to 1/1250th are possible (although I tested at 1/1600th and it was OK). Above that (1/2000th), the flash fires, but out of sync because I get a black frame.

Support for GFX50s, I didn’t test, because I don’t have one.

Flash

Godox is making many Fujifilm shooters very happy at the moment, and I quite regulary get emails of Fuji X and G shooters switching from other brands (such as Profoto), to Godox. And given the huge interest Godox arose amongst the Fuji community, I think it’s high time to share again a Godox-centric roundup.

But before we dive into the Godox world, some reviews from the non-Godox world (EF-X500 included)… all fresh from the internet.

For older stuff just search fro EF-X500 on fujirumors.com, and you will find links to EF-X500 reviews like the one at Robert Hall Photography Youtube and also check out fotograficoweb’s “Fujifilm EF-X500 Shoe Mount Flash Review” at fujirumors.com)

EF-X500 and FlashQ System

GODOX

  • Damien Lovegrove Godox XT1-F feedback shared at the GFX group here: “XT1F units have arrived. I have literally shot 1000s of frames now with the Godox system in HSS and normal sync using the TT350F and the X1TF. I can confirm that on balance I am finding about ⅔ of a drop off in flash output from regular sync to HSS across the AD200 and AD600 units. In some situations I’m not seeing any loss of exposure and in others a small reduction in exposure. I’m talking about going from 1/125th at f/16 to 1/500 at f/8 or 1/4000 at f/2.8 etc. I need to get out of the studio and shoot some real location portraits.”
  • David Ward Godox feedback shared at the GFX group here: “This is a follow on to my testing the X1Tf, TT350f, TT685f and V860IIf with a Fujifilm GFX. Now with the XT-2; As I expected, the X1Tf, TT350f, TT685f and V860IIf all work with the XT-2 as they did with the GFX. This confirms that the TTL flash capabilities of the latest generation Fujifilm cameras are consistent. Even though I don’t have access to an X Pro 2 its on the compatible list from Godox along with the XT-2 so there should be no surprises. The larger speedlites are big and heavy on the XT-2. I compared the TT350f and V860IIf in M mode with the flash head aimed directly at Manny. As expected considering the guide numbers, there is a one EV difference. That’s good news because it means that anytime the V860II would be firing at less than half power, the TT350 is up to the job. Naturally two AA batteries are a far cry from the Lithium Ion battery in the V860II, but the weight difference is significant. I’m going to confirm how everything works Friday on a wedding shoot. Ceremony outside so some chances for fill with CL200, or speedlites. Then CL200, and TT350 and V680II during the reception inside. As noted with the GFX, setting X1Tf TTL FEC also changes the value in the camera. With the speedlites it acts as expected. FEC in camera is additive to whatever is set via the X1Tf with no changes from the flash to the groups.”

The Godox Flash system is currently one of the best (if not the best) option for Fujifilm Shooters looking for a solid (and extremely affordable) flash system.

There is a great buzz about the Godox flash at our huge 14,000 GFX facebook group. And here are two Godox reports you should not miss.

The first one comes from David Ward (dmwfotos.com), who is using the Godox X1T-F controller already. The second one from Damien Lovegrove, who switched from Cactus to Godox and is now sharing his feedback on the group.

Godox News: Cross Brand TTL and HSS, XT1-F Preview, Godox Products for Sale Now also at BHphoto & more

A truely excellent and up to date Godox overview by Robert Hall at Robert Hall Photography Youtube

It’s Godox Time!

In 5 years of blogging on FujiRumors I never had to share so many (good) flash news like in the last 5 weeks :) . And to keep up with the latest flash evolutions, here is roundup dedicated to Godox flash.

  • Godox TT350F Review for Fujifilm at fujirumors.com (in case you missed it)
  • Damien Lovegrove detailed report about using Godox flashes with Fujifilm cameras at our Fujifilm GFX facebook group. He says “the results have exceeded all my expectations […] So many times I’ve seen photographers complain about 1/125th second sync speed on the GFX but now 1/4000th gives an identical flash power output using the Godox system as does 1/125th second. Is this trickery something to do with Fujifilm’s circuitry or is it a Godox thing? “.
  • Fuji HSS TTL Godox AD600 Flashpoint EPLOR 600 – Full Off Camera Support at Camera Guy Youtube
  • Preview GODOX XT1-F (Off camera flash trigger for Fujifilm) at Lillo Mendola Youtube
  • The Operation demonstration of Godox TT350F at Fomito youtube

Another nice news:

  • According to reports coming from the Godox facebook group (and that I have found via petapixel), just like cactus here, now also Godox offers Cross-Brand TTL and HSS. Strangly, it seems that Godox never officially announced this feature, but it seems to work just fine. Robert Hall put together a nice piece over at petapixel. Make sure to check it out. He also made a video about it on his youtube channel. So check out “Godox TT350 X1T-F Dual AD-200 Cross TTL and Cross HSS” at Robert Hall Photography Youtube

Reminder: a recent Godox Firmware update added Fujifilm support for all 2.4GHz lights (TT685, V860II, TT350, AD200, AD360 , AD600) – download here.

The Flashpoint R2 TTL Transmitter (re-branded Godox X1T-F) is now available for pre-order at Adorama and the Godox TT350F is now in stock at AmazonUS here and Adorama here. The Godox/Flashpoint TT685F and V860IIF for Fujifilm are available for pre-order at Adorama.

And finally, BHphoto started selling Godox gear, using the original “Godox” name and not rebranded names (like flashpoint). Check out all BHphoto Godox products for Fujifilm here.

Flash, or more specifically TTL & HSS has always been Fujifilm’s Achilles heel. Sure you could get HSS and TTL with systems like Cactus and Roboshoot, you could get some level of support, but it wasn’t native and required expensive triggers and receivers.

Then the EF-X500 came out and although there was initial fanfare, it came with a premium price a lack of wireless support. Since then, we’ve been waiting for suitable alternatives and fortunately that day has arrived.

Godox released it’s TT350F which is the first one of their proposed TTL/HSS flashes for Fuji. It’s on the lower end of the power spectrum, but it’s also a good size for a small mirrorless. With the lack of wireless support for the EF-X500, I’ve been working with a Yongnuo YN560 along with a Elinchrom Ranger for the heavier stuff, but there are times where there simply isn’t any other alternative for TTL.

It’s unusual for Australia to be the first (or one of the first) to get something. These days global release dates seemed to be aligned, so when I saw the release date for Adorama on fujirumors as the 30 June, I wasn’t expecting anything better. I emailed one of the Australian suppliers (Hypop) and asked them to let me know when the were expecting stock. I got a response to say stock had just arrived so I put in an order. Pricing was better than I expected, I haven’t followed the pricing of the Godox gear recently but A$139 (US$85 on Amazon) for a TTL/HSS flash is pretty reasonable by any standards . My Yonguo manual flash cost more than that although it is a high power output.
