We already know that Fuji’s upcoming Medium Format Mirrorless will have a DSLR’s form factor. Now I can tell you, that, always regarding the design, Fujifilm took inspiration from the Fujifilm X-T2… so expect both cameras to have a quite similar design.
I’ve heard this first from an anonymous source a couple of days ago (thanks), and I can now confirm it also via trusted source (thanks again): the Medium Format Fujifilm will have an interchangeable viewfinder!
So what’s that? It sounds like the intercheangable viewfinder we find on the PhaseOne XF, where you can attach a waist level viewfinder (verical tilting) or a standard viewfinder. Of course the PhaseOne solution is for Optical Viewfinders… now you just imagine the same with EVF’s.
See the PhaseOne XF Video below to get a more clear idea.

MEDIUM FORMAT FUJIFILM
I’ve started the rumor series about the MF Fuji back in May 2015. Since then, we were able to get our hands on some specs of both, the body and the lenses. And this long rumor story will end very soon, on September 19, when the Medium Format Fujifilm will be officially persented to the world.
It will be the shining start at this years’ Photokina :-)
But how much will it cost? I already told you it will be cheaper than the Hasselblad X1D. Behind the scenes, Fujifilm can change (and did change) the estimated price Tag anytime. Just like it happened with the Fuji X-T2, which price has been raised just shortly before its announcement, due to the Kumamoto earthquake and the currency fluctuations following the Brexit vote.
At the moment, the most “safe” thing I can say (via trusted source), is that Fuji should keep the price of the Medium Format Fuji + Lens at around the same price you pay for the Hasselblad X1D body only. But I don’t know if in this regard the final decision has yet been made by Fujifilm. Fujifilm can wake up and change everything tomorrow morning. And always keep in mind that the actual release is planed, according this rumor, only in 2017.
Mirrorlessrumors was the first to say it here: the Fujifilm Medium Format Fujifilm will be unveiled on September 19. And as Petapixel already said here, there is a Fujifilm Press Conference scheduled for that day (at 05:00 PM Berlin Time – 11:00 AM New York Time). You can see it also at the official Photokina Press Conference schedule here.
Well, I would like to join the club, and confirm that the Medium Format Fujifilm will indeed be unveiled on September 19.
Oh, and in my previous Medium Format rumor article, some FR-readers asked me if it’s possible that the MF Fuji will be announced on the 16th. Well, I’m afraid that on Friday the 16th of September the most exciting thing that will happen in my life will be the moment I leave the classroom and say: “finally weekend” ;)
Quick update regarding the Medium Format Fujifilm. We already know that it will come with three lenses. Now here are the expected Focal Lengths (in FF equiv.):
One of the questions that I read sometimes in the comments, regarding the upcoming Fujifilm Medium Format Camera, is if it will have an X-Trans Sensor or not.
Well, I got word, from a Source, right in the Past, that it will not have an X-Trans sensor.
We are in the wonderful world of the rumors, so until a product really materializes, we should take rumors with a grain of salt anyway. But I’m confident this rumor is correct.
MEDIUM FORMAT RUMORED SPECS

Fujifilm working on a Medium Format Camera (rumor here) – first Medium Format rumor by Source right in the past here.
Last January marked my 20th year as a self-employed photographer. A lot has changed in those years. But there was, however, one constant. From the start on I made most of my images with Fujifilm. Of course, back in 1996 the Astia, Provia and FP100C was ordered in bulk. Those films where loaded in the one camera I used from the very start, and I still use, on a daily basis, today.
Fuji GX680
My true workhorse. Even though it regularly feels like the workhorse is me… Nope. It’s the Fuji GX680. (Not the Fujifilm. The Fuji. Ironic; the cameras that used film did not have the “film” added in the name, the digital camera’s are FujiFILM cameras…) It was one of the biggest investments I made when I started.
A brand-new Fuji GX680, with 65mm, 100mm and 210 mm lenses. and some accessories: An extra long bellows for close-ups, rail extender for the same purpose an a wide-angle bellows. It was actually a little to expensive for a starting business, but I wanted it! The other big investment was lighting equipment. Since I am a fan of quality gear I chose Broncolor lights. I still use many of those lights today. So choosing quality gear paid off for me.
A camera system still in use after 2 decades is remarkable. Sure, some lenses where repaired or replaced, because of broken internal flash-contacts. But the reliability after so many years exceeds my expectations.
Now, in 2016 the camera and lenses can not be repaired anymore. But there is a reasonable amount of second-hand gear out there. I even bought brand-new lenses for it on Ebay. Bought a spare camera just to be sure. Had the battery-packs adapted and the cells renewed. But it is still there. In daily use. Not with the film-back, but with the Leaf Aptus 65. A 28 megapixel back, top of the line in 2006. Still the old Fujinon lenses are superb. The focusing is great. The tilt-shift the GX680 offers is awesome.
Fast forward: X-pro. To answer the question that pops up in Fujifilm users heads; Both. First the X-pro1, with the XF18mm and XF27mm. Later a XF56mm was added. The X-pro1 taught me to shoot in a different way. Very different from the DSLR’s I worked with earlier. More intuitive. Less menu’s. Superb feel.
