Fujifilm X-T2 : “Best 4K Video Quality for APS-C Cameras. Better Colors Than Sony A6500…. but X-Pro2 has More X Appeal”

One of the big steps forward Fujifilm did with the X-T2, is Video. The combination X-TransIII sensor + X-processor Pro seems to deliver quite amazing 4K results. The lastest review that confirms this comes from videographer eoshd here. He says:

  • The original X-T1 had the worst video quality around. The X-T2 has the best overall on any APS-C camera.
  • The X-T2 delivers THE best 4K image overall. Better colour response than the Sony A6300 and A6500 and way less rolling shutter.
  • The trick for maxing out dynamic range on the X-T2 is to slightly under-expose and set both highlight tone and shadow tone to -2 in-camera along with sharpness to -4.

But at the end, eosHD also says that “the X-Pro2 has more X appeal, a nicer design and more innovative viewfinder concept. I wish this model had 4K and an articulated screen but Fuji made the bet that one audience wouldn’t want it and the other audience would.”

Fujifilm Releases New Firmware for Fuji X-T1 and X-Pro2… but Not for X-T2 – Postponed to November 29!

Just as rumored, Fujiiflm released new firmware updates for the following cameras.

Still missing: the Fujifilm X-T2 Firmware 1.10, that Fujifilm announced for today, too. I guess Fujifilm found yet another bug. That’s why they postponed it to November 29 – see updated press release here.

Fujifilm X-Pro2 Will Get New Firmware (ver. 2.01) on November 8th… adds Nissin i40 Compatibility

As you know, Fujifilm will release a Firmware update for the X-T1 (ver.5.00) and the X-T2 (ver. 1.10) on November 8th.

Well, I’ve received the information, that also the Fujifilm X-Pro2 will also get a new update (ver.2.01). With the new Firmware, the X-Pro2 is again compatible with the Nissin i40.

I got one more hint, from an anonmyous source with nick name (thanks), that the upcoming EU-X deals starting tomorrow, will include a €100 price drop on the Fujifilm X-Pro2 (as well as prices drop on other cameras – like X-T1 – and lenses).

Please note that in Europe, every country can make some changes to the deals, or even do not offer them at all. I have information just about “some” countries.

At this point I’d like to send a message to sources (especially anonymous ones). First off thanks for sharing :)… and second: sometimes I receive pretty detailed information. Fujifilm just released several firmware updates

  • X-Pro2: The long-awaited X-Pro2 Firmware 2.00 is out. It brings overall 20 improvements (including a new AF-algorithm for faster and more accurate AF). And actually there are more than 20 improvements, but Fujifilm didn’t mention them… however, you’ll probably know more about the “secret improvements” on FujiRumors ;)
  • Lenses: Many Fujinon lenses got a Firmware udpate too (14mm / 16mm / 18mm / 23mmF1.4 / 27mm / 35mmF1.4 / 60mm / 10-24mm / 16-55mm / 18-55mm / 18-135mm / XC16-50mmII). As rumored, less chromatic aberration for the XF16-55mmF2.8. Check out the full lens update list here.
  • X-Pro1: And quite amazing… after all these years, even the Fujifilm X-Pro1 gets a nice little new Firmware.

IT’S KAIZEN TIME

A trusted source just contacted me, and told me that not only the X-Pro2, but also the X-Pro1 and many Fujinon lenses will get a Firmware update soon. Here is what the source told us:

X-Pro2 Firmware

As already leaked here, the X-Pro2 FW 2.00 will bring a new and improved autofocus algorithm (faster and more accurate AF, more AF-points and AF tracking improvements), support for EF-X500 flash, Auto Power feature changes, and Corrected AF frame function improvement.

But the same leaked press release, said that the improvements will actually be 20. So what else will come? Well, Fuji will improve Eye Detection, additional flash settings can be located on the Q menu. Regarding the tracking, you will be able to use the electronic shutter in AF-C. There will improvements in the OVF and some bugs will be fixed, too.

It sounds overall like a huge Firmware update that will bring some big and many small improvements… well done, Fuji… you’ll make lots of X-Pro2 owners very happy soon :)

X-Pro1 Firmware

Just like the X-Pro2, also the X-Pro1 will get the Corrected AF frame function improvement. I haven’t heard of other improvements.

Fujinon Lenses Firmware

With the new Firmware, the Chromatic Aberration on the XF16-55mmF2.8 will be better controlled. Many Fujinon lenses will also get better parallax correction.

FINAL NOTE

It’s rare, but it can happen (and it already happened) that a new firmware can contain minor bugs. In the past Fujifilm usually was very fast to fix them. But I’d recommend not to update, if you need the X-Pro2 for an important job/event. Use the current firmware and wait a few days after the firmware release. Fujifilm will be monitoring the situation after the FW release very closely, also by reading the feedback from X-shooters here on Fujirumors.

Look at what I’ve found ;). The press release of the upcoming Firmware 2.00 update for Fujifilm X-Pro2. Just as rumored previously here, it will come October 6. Fujifilm will remove the site quickly, but it will be google.cached anyway. In the meantime, check it out at the official Fujifilm page. Firmware version 2.00 update will provide a total of twenty improvements to the X-Pro2.
