Fujifilm X-shooters have a few ultra fast X-mount third party lens options, such as the Mitakon 35/0.95 and the Ibelux 40/0.85. But how do they perform?

Well, there are many reports already shared on FujiRumors, such as Jonas Rasks’ Mitakon 35/0.95 review. And today I want to add a few more reports, also about the second generation Ibelux 40mm/0.85, the currently fastest lens you can buy in Fuji X mount, and which is no longer a “HandeVision” but a “Kipon” product, as reported by dc.watch here

National Geographic Declares Fujifilm X-T2 Best Overall Compact Travel Camera 2017… Top 10 Ranking Includes X-T20 and X100F

Share

The end of 2017 is approaching, so get ready for many “Top gear of the year” and similar articles appearing on the web. So let’s start, this time with National Geographic, who listed their Top 10 compact cameras for travels.

This year, there are 3 Fuji cameras in the ranking, the Fujifilm X-T2, the X100F and the X-T20 (in 2015 Nat Geo awarded 2 Fuji cameras, the X-T1 and X100T, as reported here).

Read the whole article “Top 10 Compact Cameras for Travelers” at nationalgeographic here and click on the product link in the list below for specs & price:

About the X-T2 they write:

The X-T2 has everything one would want in a professional DSLR in a APS-C mirrorless camera. The combination of quality manual dials to control settings, speed of image processing, the amazing line lenses and the build quality make this camera such a pleasure to use that many professionals now use this camera as their main system. You simply cannot go wrong with the X-T2 as a high end travel camera; it’s an all-star, all-around team player that just won’t quit or let you down, no matter where your travels take you.”

However, in the features list of the X-T2 and X-T20 they mention the “five-axis image stabilization“. Now, Fujifilm has arguably the best optical lens image stabilization system on the market, but so far, IBIS is something that will come… in a not so distant future ;) .

Anyway, do you agree with this list?

Sure, the Fujifilm X-T2 has weather sealing, so definitely a nice to have feature on travels. On the other hand, nothing can beat the simplicity and lightness of travelling with the X100F. And coupled with the WCL-X100 and TCL-X100, the X100F is a wonderful mini-system with leaf shutter and build-in ND-filter, that makes it so much more versatile than “just” for street photography.

But let’s see what you think about it :)

Profoto Fujifilm Support

  • September 2016 here: a trusted source told us that Profoto will support Fujifilm in 2017
  • September 2017 here: Fujifilm and Profoto announced cooperation to bring TTL and HSS to the Fuji system. Shortly after, Profoto officially said on Instagram that the Profoto A1 is “coming soon”.

According to Patrick La Roque here, the Fujifilm version of the Air Remote Trigger will be released December 18.

The A1 doesn’t do TTL with Fuji you say? Now it does: the Fujifilm version of the Air Remote trigger is a reality. Not out yet (damn it) but December 18 has been set as the official release date.”

The Fuji version of the Profoto Air TTL is available to some for testing. Check out the video at Ferry Knijn Fotografie Youtube, which has been shared 3 days ago, and shows the Profoto trigger working just fine on the Fujifilm GFX.

Thanks to the two FR-readers for the links ;)

Adorama has a dedicated Profoto A1 presentation page here.

As reported here, Elinchrom triggers for Fujifilm should come in 2018.

Polaroid Wants Fujifilm to Pay Millions of Dollars in Annual Royalty for Instant Square Film Borders, Reports Say

Share

Polaroid Vs. Fujifilm

Back in September 2016, at photokina, Fujifilm showed to the world the Instant Square Film. Then, in 2017, Fujifilm started releasing cameras for that type of square film, the hybrid Fujifilm Instax SQ10 and the Instax Share SP-3 printer.

And as you all know, Fujifilm is making tons of money with all those nice Instax products, with expected 7.5 million Instant camera sales in 2017.

Well, now it seems that Polaroid wants a part of that money.

The reason Polaroid asks for royalties is the new Fujifilm Instant Square film. Polaroid apparently claims that the borders of Fujifilm’s square film (where the chamicals are, needed for the development of the film) are “essentially identical” to the ones of Polaroid.

As reported at worldipreview:

“In the suit, the brand licensor and marketer of the IP rights for Polaroid instant cameras—PLR IP—was accused of “turning against Fujifilm by suddenly demanding millions of dollars in annual royalty payments, on threat of a lawsuit”.

“Fujifilm said that Polaroid had alleged trademark and trade dress infringement relating to a border on a photograph (when a photograph is printed onto a plain background to create a “square within a square” effect).”

Polaroid first asked Fujifilm not to launch any square product on the market, and now wants Fujifilm to pay licensing fees for the square format film borders (about 3 million dollar a year).

Earlier this month, a scheduled meeting for a private negotiation has been canceled. Fujifilm claims there is no trademark infrigement, as reported here at Reuters, and filed a lawsuit against Polaroid:

in a lawsuit filed on Monday that its Instax series of instant cameras and film do not infringe on trademark and trade dress rights owned by the successor to Polaroid Corp.”

I guess this will result in a huge backfire for Polaroid.
