A new source contacted us via the revived rumor box (using a nickname, thanks!!!), and has passed us the information that the announcement of the Sigma 100-400mm f/5.0-6.3 and Sigma 23mm f/1.4 will happen in just a few hours.
It also gave us the following details:
100-400 with 5 stops stabilization (1 more than E- and L-Mount)
999€ (100-400) and 499€ (23mm) in Europe
Thanks to our new source for sharing this. You’ll be elevated to trusted source status in a few hours ;). Feel free to keep up using the rumor box and your nickname for future rumors, or also contact me via fujirumor@gmail.com in case you want to interact with me so we can talk rumors behind the scenes. Many thanks again!
The Sigma 23mm f/1.4 DC DN was pre-announced back in April here, whereas the Sigma 100-400mm f5.0-6.3 DG DN OS was first rumored on FujiRumors here.
Yes, it’s a full frame lens, but it is not a new practice to adapt Full Frame glass to APS-C, as we can see for example with the Tamron 150-500mm f/5-6.7, which was also initially launched for Full Frame but then Tamron released it also for X mount.
So, if the rumor is accurate, Sigma would just do the same.
Look, I also prefer it when lenses are specifically designed for APS-C, as it would make the lens smaller, but I also get it that for Sigma, Tamron & Co it is simply very cost efficient to take an existing FF lens and swap the mount to make it fit for APS-C.
Again… this rumor comes from a new source. So, while we are grateful for the tip, we also have to take it with the mandatory grain of salt. I was not able to double confirm or multiple check it.
TO THE SOURCE: Thanks for giving yourself a nickname so I can identify you in future if you decide to share more details.
That’s how some of the comments sounded on my various platforms after I have published the latest patents of the XF56mmF1.7 and re-designed XF18mmF1.4.
And these comments came after I warned you in the article that in 11+ years of blogging I have never seen a patent actually become a real product.
And despite my repeated warnings, some people keep taking those patents as an indication of what’s really coming next from Fujifilm.
But if it was really like this… I mean, if patents would really show us the way that Fujifilm is taking, then where are:
So, even though I feel a bit like Don Quixote fighting the windmills, I will give it another try today.
But I’ll take a different approach this time.
Because, well aware that a good number of people don’t go beyond the headline, I decided to create a headline that shows how absurd it is to put any trust in these patents. And hopefully, this will motivate people to look deeper into this subject.
And how do we look deeper into it?
Well, in this article we look at the 67 patents FujiRumors has shared starting from our first one posted back in 2012 until the latest one here.
Give them a look, and then make up your own mind if you should take patents as solid indications of future products.
