EXCLUSIVE: Date of Next Fujifilm X Summit LEAKED

X Summit Date Leaked

Thanks to our amazing sources, we have now received the date for the next Fujifilm X Summit.

But before I share it, one important disclaimer.

You know better than me at this point, Fujifilm X Summit dates are nothing 100% sure, even if it’s Fujifilm itself to tell you the date. In fact, the officially proudly announced April X Summit has been canceled and on the last day of April Fujifilm announced its cancelation.

So, I am going to share the date with you today, but I can’t 100% exclude that there will be changes. And if there will be, I will let you know.

With that said, here is the date.

According to our trusted sources, the next Fujifilm X Summit will take place on September 12.

Yes, that’s still quite far away. And yes, that makes it even more “risky” for me to share, as there is lots of time until that date and changes can happen anytime.

But if I share the date anyway with you, it means that I have good reasons to be confident about this date. A confidence that is given to me by our trusted sources.

Déjà vu Anyone?

Some of you guys might have some Déjà vu now and remember that date from somewhere.

Well, I actually have reported about that date a while back here, when thanks to our reader, who digged in the depths of the registration, we spotted the registrations for two new cameras, the FF220002 on May 26 and the FF230001 on September 12.

In that article I warned you though that usually registrations don’t actually fit with the real announcement date. I’ve checked back and here are some examples:

  • X-S20: registrations says May 26 / reality May 24
  • GFX100S: registrations says January 29 / reality January 27
  • X-T200: registrations says January 24  / reality January 23

And in 90% of the cases registrations don’t even give any date at all (or even become public only AFTER the camera has already been announced, as it was the case of the X-E4 registration).

But this time around the registration could well fit the real announcement date according to our sources.

WANTED: New Fujifilm X Mount Roadmap Needed (and Why)!

After the Fujifilm X Summit on May 24, I wrote an article about the 3 biggest disappointments of the Summit.

One of them was the lack of a new X mount roadmap, considering that now with the XF8mmF2.8 R WR out, there is no more lens on the roadmap.

Now, at this point I want to make absolutely clear that this was just my very personal opinion. If you think differently, than that’s totally fine and your opinion has just the same reason to exist as mine.

But I also think what I said was a bit misunderstood, especially in regards the new roadmap, and here is why.

The main critique I got was that I should stop asking for new lenses, that what we have is enough and there is no need to rush out with more lenses.

And yes, we sure have lots of lenses, also considering all the third party AF lenses we now have. And many of us have all their needs covered already.

But that was not the point of what I wanted to say.

What I wanted to say is that, despite everything we already have, there are still some lenses that people wish for and in some cases really need for their photography, as shown by our massive future X mount wishlist survey.

And Fujifilm can only win if they publish a new roadmap. Because:

  1. people who are currently still missing certain lenses they need and see them on the roadmap, are more likely to stay with Fujifilm and just wait for the lens to come
  2. photographers, who are interested in the Fujifilm system but are currently not yet using it because it does not offer a certain lens, they might actually start to switch to Fujifilm if they see that the lens they need is on the roadmap. They might to start to look out for good deals, buy into the system, and buy the lens they need later on.

Keeping people in the system and facilitate others to join by publishing roadmaps is a huge advantage that Fujifilm is currently missing out on.

There are only two potential downsides to publishing roadmaps:

  1. if Fujifilm puts MKII lenses on the roadmap, people will stop buying the older version. But that’s a problem Fujifilm has solved by almost never putting MKII lenses on the roadmap
  2. Roadmaps are a “promise” that Fujifilm makes to its customers. But it can happen that Fujifilm breaks the promise and makes changes to the roadmap (see XF80mm macro instead of XF120mm macro or XF50mmF1.0 instead of 33mmF1.0). And when changes are done, some customers might feel disappointed by those changes as Fujifilm “broke” the promise they made

But these two downsides are more than compensated by the advantages solid long term roadmaps bring.

And since I love Fujifilm and I want them to succeed, I want Fujifilm to take the best possible decisions for the system. And in this case, in my opinion, Fujifilm would only profit from giving us a new roadmap.

Yongnuo 50mm F1.8X DA DSM PRO X Mount Autofocus Lens Teaser (and FujiRumors already Shared the Images)

A few weeks ago we shared a lot of images of the upcoming Yongnuo autofocus X mount lenses. You can see them here.

Now Yongnuo has launched an official teaser for the Yongnuo 50mm f/1.8 (also already shared on FujiRumors) on their Chinese social media.

The only new tidbits we can extract from the teaser is that the announcement should happen in June and that the 50mm f/1.8X DA DSM Pro has the same optical design as the YN 50mm f/1.8S DF DSM (Sony E mount) with the addition of an aperture ring.

Check out the real life hands on images of this lens (and many other upcoming Yongnuo AF lenses) in this article.

Fujifilm CEO Teiichi Goto: “We Have Found a New Gold Mine in the Photography Business”

The Japanese website newswitch posted an article, where they talk about the recovery of the camera market.

In that article, they quote the Fujifilm CEO Teiichi Goto, who said that they have found a new gold mine in the photography business.

“The photography business was a stagnant business, but I found a new ‘gold mine’.”

Teiichi Goto, president of Fujifilm Holdings (HD), shows signs of success. The operating income of the Imaging segment in fiscal 2022 is expected to increase to 72.9 billion yen, which is approximately double that of the previous fiscal year.

The company’s Imaging segment includes the instant camera “Cheki” [admin note: known as INSTAX outside of Asia] and the digital camera “X series.” In particular, it seems that the promotion of digitization, starting with the smartphone printer “Link Series,” contributed to the increase in earnings.

Once again, it’s the myriad of Instax products that fuels Fujifilm’s imaging division with money.

But we have seen in the latest financial reports, that also the digital camera business performed well and contributed to the strong growth.

LAST SECOND RUMORS: Fujifilm X-S20 Coming with 3.5mm Headphone Jack and Capable for Recording 4:2:2 and 10 bit Internal Video

So, I thought I was done with Fujifilm X-S20 rumors, so much so that I even made a rumor recap video (from one of the most beautiful lakes in the Dolomites), but one of our trusted sources reached out to me now with yet another Fujifilm X-S20 rumor. And it’s my pleasure to bring it to you :).

According to our source (thanks so much), the Fujifilm X-S20 will record 4:2:2 and 10 bit internal video and have a 3.5mm headphone jack port.

Even if you are not interested in the Fujifilm X-S20, you have to admit that there is lots of power incorporated in that small body.

On paper the Fujifilm X-S20 looks very good. And if you are not a retro aficionado like me, it’s probably the best camera you can pick in this price range.
