Spencer Tunick Photographs his Latest Large-Scale Installment (2.500 People) with Fujifilm GFX… For A Good Cause!

One of the best things one can do with photography, is to raise awareness for important issues.

And that’s what world-renown photographer Spencer Tunick did with his latest installment, where he photographed 2,500 nude people at Bondi Beach beach in Australia with the goal to draw attention to skin cancer (2,500 was also the number of people, who died last year on skin cancer in Australia).

Various news outlets report about this (see below), and in some of them you can see him using a Fujifilm GFX camera for his work.

It does not matter which gear he used. But having literally just this month lived on my own skin how important it is to make regular checks, I’ll use the GFX as a pretext to join the message Spencer is spreading with his work and remind everybody to make regular checks.

SIMPLY the BEST: Messi and Ronaldo Meet the Fujifilm GFX100S of Annie Leibovitz

Apparently Annie Leibovitz is not really following the photography forums and certain gear youtubers, otherwise she would know that the Fujifilm GFX100S is a completely useless tool because:

Limited by her gear, Annie stucks with minor gigs like photographing the two most iconic soccer players of the last 15 years, Ronaldo and Messi, for an insignificant company like Louis Vuitton in the context of a negligable event like the FIFA World Cup.

If only she would listen to certain big YouTubers, she would get rid of her GFX gear and finally be able to shine artistically by recording selfie videos in a basement.

The day will come, when wisdom will finally illumiate her. Until then, you can see a video of her working with GFX, Messi and Ronaldo as well as the final image below.

And btw… the gear Annie uses, is now heavily discounted.

NOTE: this is a satirical post… we don’t take life too seriously on weekends, right? ;) And thanks to our Greek friends at pttl.gr who spotted the news and shared it with us.

Fujifilm Patents Fujinon XF 300mmF2.8 OIS, XF 400mmF4 OIS, XF 600mmF6 OIS (APS-C) and Fujinon GF 300mmF2.8 OIS (Medium Format)

Do you remember when Fujifilm patented the Fujinon XF300mm f/4 and XF500mm f/5.6 a couple of years ago?

And despite my warnings telling you not to expect such lenses soon (if ever), there are still a good amount of people who believe these patents are a strong indication for that gear to come soon.

So I will never be tired to make disclaimers: in 99,999% of the cases those patents never see the light of the day in a real product.

In fact, in over a decade of covering patents here on FujiRumors, I have seen 1 patent out of hundreds become real… and that patent was actually found only after Fujifilm released that gear.

Does this mean that covering patents is useless?

Yes… if you see it from the point of view of gear to come in future. You better look at our rumors for that purpose.

Any yet, these patents are a nice way to let us discuss on what Fujifilm should do in future and if such lenses would be appreciated among the Fujifilm community.

So down below are one by one all the latest patents.

Fujifilm Lays Out its Digital Camera Range without Fujifilm GFX50R and X70 (So What About Successor – SPECULATIONS?)

DO NOT GET ME WRONG!!!!

THIS IS NOT A RUMOR and NOTHING FUJIFILM HAS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED

All the below are my thoughts, guesses and speculations based on an slide Fujifilm showed and on hints dropped in past Fujifilm statements.

At no point Fujifilm said that both lines are 100% axed. And a slide shown by a regional outlet of Fujifilm has less value than what the official Fujifilm headquarter in Japan says.

None… I repeat, NONE of my sources has told me the Fujifilm GFX50R or X70 won’t get a successor.

Fujfiilm Digital Camera Range

You might remember how a few months ago, Fuji Guy Billy explained the digital camera range of Fujifilm.

The list Billy made gave us indication on which lines are very likely to see a successor and which ones not.

However, in the list Billy did GFX cameras and fixed lens cameras were not included.

And this brings us to today’s article.

I have received the slide you can see above that Fujifilm used during a press meeting.

Just like with Billy’s list, also here we see no entry level X series camera anymore.

In addition to that, this slide contains the Fujifilm X100V, which means it’s a solid part of the family and will get a successor at some point.

The new Fujifilm X-H2 is missing, but only because the slide was shown to press before the launch of the Fujifilm X-H2.

Totally missing though are the Fujifilm X70/XF10 and the Fujifilm GFX50R.

So what does this mean?

Well, the fact that neither the GFX50R nor the X70 are in the list certainly shows that those cameras do not play an important role in Fuji’s lineup anymore.

Regarding the Fujiifilm GFX50R, Fujifilm managers made some conflicting statements: the first one said that they see no need for a GFX50R successor due to the reasons we explained here, and the second manager clearly expressed his wish for this line to continue. So I guess not even in Japan the final word on the GFX50R successor has yet been spoken.

As far as the Fujifilm X70 goes, Fujifilm should not blame the camera for its failure. It was destined to fail due to horrible (can I say “stupid”?) decisions Fujifilm made and that we explained in this article. And to make things worst, they tried to fix it with the Fujifilm XF10, which is just another error in planing. I believe this could be a very successful line… if Fujifilm finally decides to treat it with dignity!

But sure, in times where camera companies struggle, I would not be totally surprised if those cameras, that are not vital for the system, get dropped. It would save R&D to focus on other more popular models.

Also, APS-C is marked as “X-Trans”, so this might indicate that there is no space anymore for Bayer in the APS-C lineup (which so far was reserved for lower end models).

Fujifilm X-T5 with AF Joystick of X-T4 (not X-H2/S or GFX100S)

Fujifilm X-T5

One of the questions you guys asked me, was if the Fujifilm X-T5 will use the joystick design we find on the Fujifilm X-T3 and Fujifilm X-T4 or if Fujifilm will move to the newer design they use on the Fujifilm GFX100S and Fujifilm X-H2 and X-H2s.

Well, according to our sources, the Fujifilm X-T5 will use the “older” design we have on the X-T4.

I have cameras with the “old” joystick design (X-E3 and X-T4) and with the newer one (GFX100S). Personally I am fine with both designs. As long as I have an AF joystick I am happy. But feel free to let us know in the comments which one you prefer.
