You Top Fujinon X/GFX Lens Wish for 2021 is…?

Recently we checked out how many Fujinon X/GFX lenses Fujifilm usually released in the last few years, and we saw, that in 2021 we could still get up to 3 lenses that have not yet been announced by Fujifilm or put in any roadmap (if Fujifilm keeps the same pace of the last few years).

So, there is room for surprises.

Now it’s your time to tell us your top wish… but beware, wish for lenses that you would also be ready to pay for ;).

Who knows, maybe Fujifilm will find some inspiration from your wishes… it wouldn’t be the first time ;).

Fujifilm GFX – A Success Story

Soon the world will meet the Fujifilm GFX100S. And from all the specs leaked so far, we can easily say it will be a huge shock for the market (especially considering its price).

It will be Fuji’s 4th medium format camera after the Fujifilm GFX50S, the Fujifilm GFX50R and the Fujifilm GFX100.

Overall, Fujifilm’s medium format journey has been a huge success. The Fujifilm GFX100 sold much better then what Fujifilm predicted in its own (already optimistic) forecast, as FujiRumors told you here and Fujifilm managers confirmed later on here. The Fujifilm GFX50R grew up to be a winner thanks to a very aggressive price. But nothing would have been possible, if the first camera, the Fujifilm GFX50S, would not have been as successful as it was.

The strategy is clear, as top Fujifilm manager Toshihisa IIlda explained here: “Top full frame cameras are priced around $3,000-5,000. Fujifilm targets those customers to expand customer base“.

And with a price tag of $5,999 for a 102 megapixel GFX100S with IBIS, Fujifilm is pursuing this strategy very agressively.

So far it seems to work out well. As the manager told us here, “70-80% of GFX customers are coming from non-Fuji cameras. Most probably from full frame DSLR cameras.”

Toshihisa IIda ends up his very interesting talk about the GFX system by saying “The GFX system is really good business for Fujifilm“.

If you want to read more, including what the manager says about the Fujifilm X-H2 and the full frame attack strategy, feel free to check out this post.

Now back to us :).

Today I’d like to share a Fujifilm GFX roundup. It will probably be the last one with the GFX100, GFX50S and GFX50R at the core of it, as I am pretty sure that starting from January 27 the Fujifilm GFX100S will claim the throne and monopolize the attention.

So, there will be comparisons, bug reports, reviews, technical tests, photo reportage and a lot more.

Feel free to check it out down below.

BREAKING: Fujifilm GFX100S with 3-Way Tilt Screen (and NOT a Fully Articulating Screen)

I don’t why, but this morning my inbox was bombarded by people asking me the same question: will the Fujifilm GFX100S really have a fully articulating screen?

So let me adress this now: No, it won’t!

The Fujifilm GFX100S will have a 3-way tilt screen like the one on the Fujifilm X-T3.

Some Vloggers will still complaint in their first looks on January 27 that they can’t shoot medium format handheld selfie videos, but I guess most of the other medium format shooters will be just fine with this solution ;).

BREAKING: Fujifilm GFX100S will be a Bit Smaller than Fujifilm GFX50S

We told you back in early December, that the upcoming Fujifilm GFX100S will be “about as big” as the Fujifilm GFX50S.

Well, according to information I have received from trusted sources, the Fujifilm GFX100S will be actually “a bit smaller” than the Fujifilm GFX50S!

So let’s sum it up:

Just back in 2019, IBIS was the single most important reason why Fujifilm had to make the Fujifilm GFX100 so big. Now Fujifilm was able to minaturzie the mechanism to a point, that they can fit it into a much smaller body.

That thing looks better and better, the more we find out about it!

Fujifilm GFX100S to Cost $5,999: The Ultimate Fujifilm Attack on High Resolution Full Frame Cameras!

We already leaked the price of the Fujifilm GFX100S, which will be of $5,999.

That’s cheaper than the Fujifilm GFX50S at launch, which was sold for $6,500 (now the new list price is of $5,499, so just $500 cheaper than what the Fujifilm GFX100S will be).

And keep it mind: the Fujifilm GFX100S has not only IBIS, but also a highly modern state of the art BSI 100 megapixel sensor with phase detection pixels all over the sensor, whereas the Fujifilm GFX50S uses an older contrast detect AF only and non BSI sensor.

It’s a crazy good price if you ask me. And the goal seems to be pretty clear to me: threaten all those high resolution full frame cameras.

Let’s take a look:

  • Fujifilm GFX100S: 102MP – $5999 – 70% “fuller” sensor than full frame
  • Canon EOS R5:      45 MP  – $3899 – Full Frame
  • Panasonic S1R:     47 MP   – $3697 – Full Frame
  • Sony A7RIV:           61 MP  – $3498 – Full Frame
  • Nikon Z7 II:            45 MP  – $2996 – Full Frame

Sure, the high resolution full frame cameras will still be between 35% and 50% cheaper than the Fujifilm GFX100S.

But consider that the Fujifilm GFX100S has also about twice the megapixel of those full frame cameras as well as a 70% larger sensor.

Considering the whole package, I think that it’s a terrific price.

While the 10K price tag as well as the size of the very popular Fujifilm GFX100 were still a deterrent for many to buy into the GFX system, I think that Fujifilm now nailed it by making a smaller Fujifilm GFX100 and also make it 40% cheaper!

Now we are at a point, where those looking for high resolution cameras and until now were considering the various full frame offerings might as well consider to get the Fujifilm GFX100S, which will offer twice the megapixel and a 70% larger sensor.

I don’t know you, but my impression is that Fujifilm is about to drop a potential best seller here.

DPRTV Predictions for 2021: Fujifilm X-H2 with Great Video Features plus Smaller and Cheaper Fujifilm GFX100

DPReview published their camera prediction video for 2021.

What will happen with Fujfiilm in 2021? Here is their guess.

  • big video year for Fujifilm
  • what was missing on X-T4 we will see in on the Fujifilm X-H2
  • X-H2 with headphone jack and less overheating concerns. Also high resolution viewfinder
  • A smaller Fujifilm GFX100 with lower resolution display, a bit worst battery life. Room for that sensor to get in a smaller and less expensive body

Chris and Jordan don’t say it will be called “GFX100S”. They just say it could be smaller GFX100 camera with 100 megapixel. But to be clear: it’s their guess, not a rumor or any insider information they share.

But if you follow FujiRumors, you’ll know it will be called Fujifilm GFX100S, you know it will come in early 2021, you know it will be smaller, and yet still have IBIS. For the most recent specs update on the Fujifilm GFX100S check out this article.

And if you read FujiRumors, then you’ll also know they missed out on another camera coming very soon ;).

If you want substantial and solid rumors, then something tells me you should not miss FujiRumors in the days, weeks and months to come ;).

RUMOR: Smaller Fujifilm GFX100 will Have IBIS and Coming Early 2021

The New Fujifilm GFX100

There is a bit of confusion, so let me clear things up, as well as add something new to it.

Yes, Fujifilm did announce a new Fujifilm GFX100, but that one is an infrared version for forensic use, pretty much as the special Fujifilm X-T1 infrared version.

The Fujifilm GFX camera we rumor here on FujiRumors since a while now, is not an IR Fujifilm GFX100 camera and also not a monochrome camera.

As we told you here, it’s a 102 megapixel Bayer sensor camera that is smaller than the current Fujifilm GFX100. Also, as we told you in October, it will come in early 2021.

IBIS or Not?

Now, some wrote me, speculating that the new smaller GFX100 won’t have IBIS. And in fact, the IBIS unit on the current GFX100 ain’t small at all.

We already made a rendering of the Fujifilm GFX100 IBIS unit mounted on the Fujifilm GFX50S and Fujifilm GFX50R. As you can see, it is definitely too big for any other GFX camera. But since then, Fujifilm has made serious progress when it comes to making the IBIS unit smaller.

And here is what I can tell you today: the new smaller Fujifilm GFX100 coming in early 2021 will have IBIS.

This comes from trusted sources.

Ok, so here is the recap it:

Fuji Guys: Understanding Fujifilm GFX100 Pixel Shift Multishot and more Sample Videos

Fujifilm has recently released the long awaited pixel shift firmware for Fujifilm GFX100.

FujiRumors has already shared a first look on the new feature, a collection of feedback we got from members of our massive Fujifilm GFX group.

Some got good results, others not. So it’s definitely a feature you should learn to master, making especially attention to avoid any movement from the lens, camera, tripod and even from the ground around the tripod.

Now the Fuji Guys have released a short video, called “understanding GFX100 pixel shift“.

Most of what they say has already been explained by Fuji Guy Francis at the official Fujifilm GFX100 pixel shift launch.

So what’s new in this video? Well, not much, but there might be something you might have missed, and also some little new things. Let me sum them up for you:

  • the final image (a DNG merger from 16 images) is already fully demosaiced, because the camera capture full RGB color information with every capture as the sensor moves around

That was it already. But down below I will share more videos about the new Fujifilm GFX100 pixel shift feature.

However, the richest and best feedback about the new pixel shift feature can definitely be found in our extremely active Fujfiilm GFX group.
