Review of TTArtisan 11mm F2.8: a Fisheye for your Fujifilm X and GFX

Let’s clear the air: I’ve never before used a fisheye lens. In fact, so lost and daunted was I by the prospect of using one that time and time again I delayed publishing this review. Prior to it arriving I boned up on how to shoot a fisheye lens. Hints came from the general internet as well as from the comments section of Fauxtaku Lounge. I’m still not confident that the examples I shot really get the picture across, but I hope I’ve learned a thing or two and that this review will help someone. Thanks to everyone for the advice and help.

Whatever the limits of my abilities, the fun-factor of using a fisheye is unlimited. This bad boy covers 180º, with a bright 2,8 maximum aperture. Talk about fun. I’m sure loads of you out there know what it’s like to shoot fisheye lenses. Move a little and the entire frame changes. Sag a shoulder slightly and the horizon bolts down. Because it covers 180º and does the bulbous fisheye thing, you have to remember a few things:

FUJIFILM Updates RAW File Converter EX and FUJIFILM Tether Plugin PRO for GFX for Adobe

Fujifilm has updated RAW File Converter EX and Tether Plugin PRO for GFX.

The software update Ver.8.1.5.0 incorporates the following issues:

Major Fujifilm X-T3 and GFX100 Firmware Update Coming May/June

Let me first say things how they are.

Fujifilm NEVER announced any major firmware update for Fujifilm X-T3. The rumor of a Kaizen X-T3 update has been published here on FujiRumors a few months ago. And it was only a rumor.

Pressed by questions, Fujifilm managers later on just vaguely answered that such a firmware is “under consideration“.

Another thing is the huge update for Fujifilm GFX100. That firmware has been promised by Fujifilm back in February here. The main course of the meal: pixel shift multishot for 400 megapixel images.

Anyone salivating? ;)

Now back to the rumors.

According to our sources, both, the Fujifilm X-T3 as well as the Fujifilm GFX100 firmware updates should be released in the first half of 2020 (which May/June).

I asked if it could come out already in April, but my sources are sure it won’t be April.

And now a mandatory warning!

While I am 100% sure Fujifilm’s current plans are the ones I said above, after almost a decade of my life dedicated to Fujifilm blogging, I can tell you that if there is one thing, that can experience sudden plan changes at any time, then it’s firmware updates.

Fujifilm has a deadline, but especially with firmware updates, those can change quickly. The firmware will be released, only when ready.

And yet, the plan is to come out with both, X-T3 and GFX100 firmware within the first half of the year.

Fujifilm Wins Four TIPA Awards with GFX100, X-Pro3, X100V and Instax Mini Link

Fantastic achievement for Fujifilm!

The TIPA Award is an extremely tough competition, where products are brutally tested by the best experts on the planet. Companies are eager to win the TIPA award, and sometimes they want to pay to get it, but the incorruptible and visionary team of TIPA experts, guided by the one and only goal to deliver the most unbiased and professional feedback to customers, does not bend to the will of multimillion dollar companies. They award only the most prestigious products ever!

Ok, now let’s get serious.

Lots of companies payed again lots of money to win a totally meaningless award. TIPA created as many categories as needed to make everybody happy (who paid). Hence you will find frankly ridiculous category differentiations, such as “best professional APS-C camera” (Fujifilm X-Pro3), “best expert APS-C camera” (Sony A6600) and “best advanced APS-C camera” (Nikon Z50). The whole point of these award commissions is to make money by selling award licenses, meaning the right for companies to use the award logo to promote their products.

What a pity… all that money Fujifilm could have spent in firmware updates!

New Firmware for Fujifilm X-T3, X-T30 and XF 16-80mm f/4 Released

The firmware update Ver.3.21 from Ver.3.20 incorporates the following:

The firmware update Ver.1.20 from Ver.1.10 incorporates the following issues:

Regarding the details of No.1, download the “X-T30 New Features Guide” from our website.

  1. Gimbal / Drone support (*)
    This firmware adds the following function to complement the current support for still image shooting via USB communications:
    ・Starting and ending video recording
    ・Adjusting exposure settings (exposure mode, shutter speed, aperture, ISO sensitivity, exposure compensation) for video recording
    ・Making manual focus adjustments for video recording
    *This is the function via USB communication. About supported gimbals and drones, refer to support information not only on our website but also manufacturers’ websites.
  2. Enhanced autofocus.
    *Improving the tracking performance of the eye AF frame, making it easier to attain accurate autofocus on the eyes.
    *Improving face-detection performance when there are faces of different sizes within the same frame, making it easier to attain accurate autofocus.
    *Improving autofocus capability on a foreground subject even when there is a mixture of foreground and background subjects within a AF frame, causing the foreground subject to go out of focus, e.g. when shooting flowers against a busy background.
  3. Capability to save up to 9,999 pictures in each folder.
    Until now, the number of pictures that can be saved in a folder on an SD card was limited to 999. This update will raise the limit by ten times to 9,999 pictures.
  4. Fix of minor bugs.

This PDF Lists 80 Fujifilm Film Simulation Custom Profiles You Can Try out Yourself

Here on FujiRumors we have shared quite a few articles about people, sharing their customized Fujifilm film simulation profiles.

From Peter Evans, who was inspired by the masters of the past and present, and fine tuned his film simulations to emulate the look of their images (we reported here), to Ritchie Roesch, who tried to recreate the look of old film stock by adjusting the settings of various film simulations (we reported here).

Then there are the receipts shared by renown photographers, for example Kevin Mullins (we reported here).

And of course there are lots of other Fujifilm X shooters, who played around with the film simulation, trying to achieve a particular look.

In fact, there are so many, that we might have lost a bit the overview.

But luckily over at our fantastic Fujifilm X-Pro group, fellow X shooter David collected 80 film simulation receipts and shared them all in a very practical PDF.

Steelsring Nikon to Fujifilm GFX Autofocus Smart Adapter Firmware 1.03 Released

 

Steelsring has released firmware 1.03 for their Nikon to Fujifilm GFX smart autofocus adapter.

  1. Bug fixes, improve Tamron and Sigma F-mount lens compatiability
  2. Improve AF lock accuracy

For Mac OS 10.7.5+ users only:

You have to disable Gatekeepr before start firmware updater, and remeber to enable it again when it’s done.
