Fujifilm GFX Fixed Lens Camera Lens Patents Spotted – GF35mm F3.5, GF40mm F3.5 and GF50mm F3.5

The following lens patents for the GFX have been spotted by the Japanese website asobinet.

  • GF35mmF3.5
    (more precisely 33mmF3.6)
  • GF40mmF3.5
    (more precisely 39mmF3.6 and 43mmF3.6)
  • GF50mmF3.5
    (more precisely 51mmF3.6)

Asobinet speculates that these are patents for a fixed lens camera, since it has a short back focus.

Fellow FujiRumors readers already know that the fixed lens Fujifilm GFX will come in the first half of 2025 with a 28mm equivalent lens, which means it will be 35mm in GFX format.

All of the patents show an f/3.5 aperture, which would be a f/2.8 depth of field equivalent in full frame.

Fujinon GF50mmF3.5 Firmware Still Suspended

Suspended Firmware

Back on April 27, Fujifilm released firmware updates for lots X and GFX lenses (plus some cameras).

Among them there was firmware 1.10 for the Fujinon GF50mmF3.5 with some welcome improvements.

However, at some point Fujifilm removed the firmware and said:

It has been confirmed that there are some rare cases where the upgrade process fails with Ver. 1.10 released on April 27, 2023. For this reason, we have just removed the download button for this version here. We will resume the download button as soon as a fix is ready.

Customers who have successfully upgraded this firmware can continue to use the product.

Since then, nothing happened and the firmware is still suspended.

As an owner of the Fujinon GF50mmF3.5 myself, I just share this friendly reminder to Fujifilm that there is this suspended firmware and that we would really appreciate if they’d fix it… just in case Fuji forgot about it.

Fujifilm GFX 50R with GF50mm Hands on Photos, Lab Test Shots, First Looks and FUJI GUYS Photokina 2018 Wrap Up

Fujifilm GFX 50R

ePhotozine published a couple of hands-on photos of the Fujifilm GFX 50R with GF 50mmF3.5.

I am pretty sure ePhotozine just did it just to trigger my GAS even further, because I kind of fell in love with the Fujifilm GFX 50R while trying it out at the Fujifilm booth.

They also shared hands on images of the GF45-100mm and GF 100-200mm here.

Down below Lok’s Fujifilm GFX 50R first look and here are the dpreview sample images.

And despite all the reviewers make a brilliang job covering the Fujifilm GFX 50R, they have a hard job this time, since it has the exact same performance of the Fujifilm GFX 50S. The only difference is the design, and I strongly invite you to test it out by yourself, because what I loved to handle on the booth, you might hate it.

And in no case I would recommend this camera to left eye shooters, since you are going to cover the screen with your face, and you can forget to swipe the touch screen to access your custom functions while you have your eye on the viewfinder. The swipe function will be used a lot, since there is not D-Pad, where to assign custom functions.

With that said, if you are a rangefinder lover, then you probably already are right eye dominant and the corner viewfinder placement.

INTRIGUING: Fujifilm GFX100RF Rumored to Feature Unique Aspect Ratio Dial

The fixed-lens Fujifilm GFX is on its way, and it looks like it will introduce a fresh innovation to the Fujifilm X/GFX series that’s bound to catch the attention of manual control enthusiasts like me.

According to new information from my sources the Fujifilm GFX100RF will feature a new dedicated aspect ratio dial on the back of the camera.

Of course it is too early to judge this new feature/dial. We haven’t seen or used it yet. However, for those who appreciate a tactile experience with as many manual controls as possible, this addition has the potential to be quite intriguing.

But for now I suspend my judgment, even though you can call me intrigued by it.
