Fringer EF-GFX Smart Adapter Available in October

Fringer EF-GFX smart adapter is still under development. It is expected to be available in October.

The key features includes:

  • Built-in electronic aperture ring simiar to native G mount lenses.
  • Phase detection AF support (GFX100 & GFX100s only) for all tested and optimized lenses. Focus points fully cover the sensor. DSLR like AF experiences.
  • Supports both lens IS and IBIS (not at the same time). Users may choose between them.
  • Built-in LaCA profiles. Support in-camera lateral chromatic aberration correction for all tested and optimized lenses.

Fringer writes:

Recently we have tested and optimized Sigma 105/1.4 Art. It performs really well on GFX100s. The 44×33 medium frame sensor is fully covered without any problem. It AFs just like on a EF mount DSLR. Please see the following pictures taken by it on GFX100s and Fringer adapter.

Singer-Turned-Photographer Bryan Adams Shooting Pirelli Calendar 2022 with Fujifilm GFX100S

original image at CNN taken by Alessandro Scotti
original image at CNN taken by Alessandro Scotti

Here is a little weekend curiosity.

Singer-Turned-Photographer Bryan Adams is currently at work to shoot the new Pirelli Calendar 2022.

Now some behind the scenes images appeared at CNN here, and the camera we see has to be the Fujifilm GFX100S: flat viewfinder, top LCD with two buttons on the right, the “viewmode” printed on the side.

Well, at least he got one already. Fujifilm was totally overwhelmed by the demand for this camera (it is already the most owned GFX camera among the FR community), that it is still hard to find in stock (and Fujifilm warned us about this).

As for the lens he is using in the image we can see above, it could be the Fujinon GF32-64mmF4.

Well, that’s surely where the GFX system belongs: very high end professional work.

And yet, considering that medium format is now getting more affordable than some mirrorless full frame cameras and also smaller than some full frame mirrorless cameras, the GFX system is finding its way also in lots of camera bags of enthusiast photographers, who might not make money out of their images, but value image quality above all else.

You can read the full article and see the images at CNN here.

VBESTLIFE 50mm f/1.6 Tilt Lens for Fujifilm X – UPDATE

UPDATE: Although advertised as tilt shift lens, this is a tilt only lens

I have been often asked about tilt shift options for Fujifilm X cameras (as well as for GFX).

The native mount options are very limited in case of the X/GFX series.

As far as I am aware of, the only Fujifilm X mount option are the Samyang T-S 24mm F3.5 ED AS UMC and the Lensbaby Sol 45 f/3.5 Tilt-Shift.

Now a FR-reader spotted a third tilt shift lens for Fujifilm X, the VBESTLIFE Tilt Shift Lens 50mm F1.6 for Fujifilm X.

  • 【F1.6-F22 Aperture】With 50mm/2.0in focal length and F1.6 aperture lens design, fit for Fuji FX mount mirrorless camera, provide better use feeling.
  • 【Manual Focus】High quality precision mechanisms, including six elements of the five optical designs, enable correction of perspective distortions of photography inside and outside the building, as well as control of depth of field for product photography.
  • 【FX Mount】Adopt high quality alloy and optical glass material, firm and durable, effectively reduce the replacement.
  • 【Full Frame】Full‑frame lenses in full‑frame SLRS can assure high quality imaging, while in half‑frame SLRS can improve image quality, create a dreamy and ethereal photo style.
  • 【Tilt Shift Lens】TS lens allows to compensate for perspective distortion, change the depth of field and sharpness zone, and soften the image if necessary.

The FR-reader also purchsed it and I am curious to read his first impressions about it.

EXCLUSIVE: Fujinon GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6 vs Fujinon GF32-64mmF4 Size Comparison

One of the most intriguing lenses Fujifilm will launch in near future (within 2021), is definitely the Fujinon GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6, a very affordable zoom for the Fujifilm GFX system.

To see which other lenses (and cameras) will be launched this year, but also in 2022, check out our rumored X/GFX 2021/2022 timeline.

But back to the GF35-70mm.

We already told you that the lens will have a collapsible design, similar to the one we find on the Fujinon XC15-45mm F3.5-5.6. This means that when you first turn the lens, you are not already zooming. You are just pushing out the lens. Only once pushed out, you can start zooming.

This sort of design helps to keep lens size smaller.

But how small will the Fujinon GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6 be?

Well, thanks to indication of our sources, we can now share an approximate size comparison between the upcoming Fujinon GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6 and the already existing and quite frankly stellar (and now hugely discounted) Fujinon GF32-64mmF4. You can see the comparison above.

Of course the rendering shows the lens in its smallest size possible.

This is approximate size comparison I made using an imaginary mock-up I made out of the rumors shared so far, so do not expect it to be a 100% super accurate size comparison. But it will help you to get an idea on what is about to come from Fujifilm.

Now, I own the Fujinon GF32-64mmF4 and love it. And I also love the fact that it has an aperture ring, which the Fujinon GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6 won’t have. So no regrets here and I will happily stick with my GF32-64mmF4.

But the Fujinon GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6 has also its strengths: a sensibly smaller size (as you can see above) and a much more affordable price tag.

I can see what Fujifilm is doing here, and as I said in this article, it makes a whole lot of sense, as it finally fixes the true anomaly in the G mount lens lineup.

So guys, that was it for today. But more juicy stuff will come ;).

RUMOR: Fujinon GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6 with Collapsible Lens Design

If you follow FujiRumors, you’ll know that Fujifilm is preparing to launch the new Fujinon GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6 lens.

You’ll also know it will cost just $500 if bundled with the upcoming Fujifilm GFX50SII.

Well, thanks to our sources, today we can tell you that the Fujinon GF35-70mm f/4.5-5.6 will have a collapsible lens. We know this design already from the Fujinon XC15-45mm F3.5-5.6.

For your convenience, down below is a recap of all Fujifilm GFX50SII and Fujinon GF35-70mmF4.5-5-6 rumors.

The GFX Rumor Recap

Fujinon GF35-70mm 4.5-5.6 will Not Have an Aperture Ring

Sure, it will be very affordable. But I think that what I am going to tell you might be a deal breaker for some.

The upcoming Fujinon GF35-70mm f/4.5-5.6 will not have an aperture ring.

Honestly, when I received the first rumors about this lens, I was hesitant if I should wait for it and pass on the €500 rebate on the GF32-64mmf4.

Ultimately I went for the GF32-64mmF4 and especially after this rumor I am happy I did. I love aperture rings and I even sold my good old 27mmF2.8 for the new 27mmF2.8 R WR just to get this single feature.

And yet, I believe this lens fixes the true anomaly in the GF lens lineup, so I still believe it’s a very smart move by Fujifilm.

Meet My Fujifilm GFX100S: What I Love, What I Hate and My First Firmware Request

The Mountains Shall Wait

So, my Fujifilm GFX100S just arrived as well as my Fujinon GF32-64mmF4.

The original plan was to hit the mountains and go full into landscape photography mode as soon as I have my GFX gear. But my wife decided she needed to take a 3 week long intensive course in Italian language starting exactly this week, which means I basically have to stay at home to take care of my son while she studies. Unluckily not the best timing ;).

But the summer is long and I’ll get my hiking opportunities. And it never hurts to have quality time with my son, too :).

The RAW Power Shall Wait (due to my Stupidity)
