Fujifilm Displays XF 50mm f/1.0 as “Coming Soon” at London’s House of Photography

You know what’s a really cool thing of being part of the FujiRumors community?

That you guys are my eyes and ears all over the world :).

So it happens that, even though I can not visit the brand new Fujifilm “House of Photography” in London, fellow FR-readers keep me updated, and let me know about their experience. Hence, a little bit, it feels like you allow me to be there with you, too. :)

Today it’s Marc, who sent me a lovely tidbit from inside the “House of Photography“: images of the Fujinon XF 50mm f/1.0, which Fujifilm marks as “coming soon“.

That lens can’t come soon enough!

Other than that, I hear just great things about the “House of Photography”, which also hosts the famous Markus Klinko exhibtion about David Bowie.

So if you are one of the lucky FR-readers living in London or around, definitely go there as soon as you can.

And don’t forget… whatever you hear and see… you are my eyes and ears… ;)

New Fujifilm Financial Results: Instax Declines, Mirrorless Suffers, Revenue Down 12.4% but Fujifilm GFX100 Sells Strong!

Fujifilm Fiscal Year Report

Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sony and others have already reported their financial results.

Most of them are devastating bad. Sony is doing best, even though even Sony has to record a -3,4% sale decrease.

And Fujifilm?

Well, Fujifilm now published their financial results for the this quarter (ends September 30, 2019) and the numbers are not good either*.

Fujifilm’s cashcow Instax keeps slowing down, and digital camera sales suffer strong. All this results in a revenue decrease for the imaging division of 12.4%.

But Fujifilm remains optimistic and says:

we will further enhance the sales by providing products with competitive advantages utilizing our unique technologies, and by running effective promotions to achieve a performance target.

The only camera Fujifilm mentions clearly positively, is the Fujifilm GFX100, which enjoyed “strong sales“. And that must be right, since 6 months after announcement, the camera is still hard to find on the market.

FujiRumors recommends:

Dear Fujifilm, do you know that plan not to release any Fujifilm X-H2 not even in 2020? Forget that! Give us the Fujifilm X-H2 now with Samsung/Fujifilm ISOCELL+ sensor technology, and you’ll see the numbers go positive again. And a Fujifilm X-T4 with IBIS could help, too! Hurry up!

Fujifilm GFX 100: B&H Photo, AmazonUS, Adorama, Focuscamera

* As it always leads to confusion, we remind fellow readers that the Japanese fiscal year 2020 is divided as follows:
   – 1st quarter: April to June 2019 (revenue down 15%)
   – 2nd quarter: July to September 2019 (revenue down 12.4%)
   – 3rd quarter: October to December 2019 (to be determined)
   – 4rd quarter: January to March 2020 (to be determined)

New Fujinon XF 50mm f/1.0 Hands-On Images and Accurate Size Comparison with XF 33/1.0, 56/1.2, 50/2, 90/2, 16-55/2.8

Fujinon XF 50mm f/1.0

As you know, Fujifilm canceled the Fujinon XF33mm f/1.0 in favor of the Fujinon XF 50mm f/1.0. As Fujifilm explained at the Fujifilm X Summit, the change was necessary in order to save size, weight (and I’ll add also price).

FujiRumors already made an accurate size comparison between the XF 50mm f/1.0 and the XF56/1.2, XF50/2, XF90/2 and XF16-55/2.8 in this article.

Now new hands on images of the Fujinon XF 50mm f/1.0 appeared on weibo via camerabeta, and you can see them all down below.

Is it a good Idea to change from XF33mmf/1.0 to XF50mmf/1.0 to save size and weigth?

Bonus:

Dont’t forget to….

Fujinon XF 50mm f/1.0 Accurate Size Comparison with XF 56mm f/1.2 and XF 50mm f/2

Fujinon XF 50mm f/1.0

As we reported here, for the sake of size and weight, Fujifilm canceled the Fujinon XF33mm f/1.0 from the roadmap and replaced it with a smaller Fujinon XF50mm f/1.0.

The new Fujinon XF50mm f/1.0 will be 35% smaller than the latest Fujinon XF33mm f/1.0 mock-up and also weight under 900 gram, as opposed to the 1.3 kg of the XF 33mm f/1.0.

So I thought I take the official Fujinon XF50mm f/1.0 images shared by Fujifilm here and compare its size with the Fujinon XF56mm f/1.2 and Fujinon XF 50mm f/2.

While this is as accurate as it gets, keep in mind that this is just an early prototype and the final version will surely see some changes.

According to the first results from our survey, you guys agree with Fuji’s choice to change focal length in order to make the lens smaller and lighter.
