Overview of the FUJIFILM Exhibition at Photokina 2018

As you know, Fujifilm has launched a dedicated Fujifilm Photokina microsite, where you can check out all the events planed for photokina.

Now they also published an official press release with all the details.

Well, actually not really all the details, since they don’t tell you that they will display also the Fujifilm GFX 50R, which will be announced on September 25 at 07:30 AM New York time :).

Here is the press release:

HOT!!! Fujifilm GFX 50R First Image Leaked?

Fujifilm GFX 50 R

Could this be the first real life image of the Fujifilm GFX 50 R? (thanks for sharing)

If yes, then here is what we can say:

  • rangefinder style camera
  • EVF only
  • diopter adjustment like on X-Pro2 and not on X-E3
  • makes a compact impression
  • in this image, there is probably a flash trigger attached to the hot shoe

We remind you that the Fujifilm GFX 50 R will be launched around photokina (which takes place between 26 to 29 September). It will be rangefinder styled medium format camera and if this image is real, with EVF only, hence more similar to the Fujifilm X-E3 than to the Fujifilm X-Pro3.

The final Fujifilm GFX 50 R price has not yet been set, I guess also because Fujifilm wants to see at what price tag the Full Frame Canon EOS R is. But in any case it will be significantly less than Fujiilm GFX 50S

But already now I feel pretty confident to claim, that the Fujiflm GFX 50R will look much better than the Fujifilm GFX 50S.

NIKON Shooter About FUJIFILM: “Fujifilm’s Passion is Evident or They Could Never have Produced Something Like the X100F”

Fujifilm X100F

Did you invest in DSLR’s or any other non-Fujifilm system?

Well, then let your fingers from the Fujifilm X100F, since the perfidious Fuji Guys conceived this camera as the “gateaway drug” into the X world.

In fact, I often hear of Nikon or Canon shooters, who just got and X100F as a secondary camera for everyday shooting. But once they felt the pleasure, inspiration and quality of shooting with Fujifilm, they started to buy an X-Pro2, or an X-T2, a few lenses, and ended up ditching their DSLR system completely.

Today we report about another hardcore Nikon shooter, who made the error to get an X100F as a secondary camera: very popular youtube photographer The SnapChick.

She says about the X100F:

  • She tried the Nikon DF, which never fully embrace its inner “analogueness”
  • X100F hits the sweet spot between old school feel and modern features
  • X100F solidly build and  super clean, classic design
  • it’s all about the basics
  • intuitive menu. Coming from other brands, she felt like she already knew how to use 90% of the functions without needing the menu or manual
  • Sony mirrorless felt like a computer for her, but Fujifilm is doing it right
  • she liked to use film simulations a lot
  • this was the first time in a long time, that she was excited to look at photos later on
  • she thought that the X100F would make an occasional guest appearance in her camera bag, but after a couple of months with “this gem” and the Fujifilm X100F was almost always in her bag, and often no other camera
  • high quality images that rival anything else out there
  • Fujifilm’s passion is evident, or they could never have produced something like this, where the features and the functions are so well geared to help you do that one thing really well: capturing great images with the least distraction while giving you full creative control

I doubt she will end up ditching their Nikon system, since most of her followers on youtube are Nikon shooters. But it’s nice that she captures in words so nicely what’s about to be a Fujifilm X shooter: enjoying the pictures just as much as the process to take them.

Full List of Elinchrom Skyport Pro Supported Fujifilm Cameras

Elinchrom Transmitter for Fujifilm

Back in July, we reported that Elinchrom announced Skyport Pro support for Fujifilm coming in September 2018.

And just two weeks ago, we leaked the first images of a working prototype of the Fujifilm compatible Elinchrom Trigger (and the source also unveiled to us the reason why we Fujifilm X shooters had to wait so long for Elinchrom support).

But we are getting closer now, and on August 14, Elinchrom also updated their support page and shared more details about which Fujifilm cameras will be supported:

Thanks to the FR reader, who send me this information via rumor box :) .

YES, WE CAN! Wedding Photography with Fujifilm – What’s in Fuji X Shooters Wedding Bags, Setting Tips and More

Believe it or not, Fujifilm is used for all kind of professional work.

And it seems photographers love to use Fujifilm also for weddings.

Even 9 year old Regina shot a full wedding on an X-T1 and, unlike someone else, she seems to have no problems to move the focus point :) .

So it happens that Fujifilm gear finds its way into the bags of many wedding photographers – I even met a wedding X shooter casually while cycling around my mountains.

So today I decided to share a roundup dedicated to which Fujifilm gear (and bags/flashes etc) photographers carry in their wedding-bag, as well as the settings they use and some more curiosities.

So You HATE Retro FUJIFILM Dials? Then Just Customize them and Get DSLR-like Controls!

Fujifilm – Customize it

Recently we shared Jared Polin’s Fujifilm X-H1 review, where Jared complaints badly about the Fujifilm retro controls.

But as we pointed out in the review of Jared’s review, he is probably not so familiar with Fujifilm controls.

In fact, Fujifilm cameras are more flexible than anything else on the market right now.

If you like the retro analogue controls (like me), you just turn the dedicated dials, but if you hate them (like Jared), all you need to do is to set your camera in a way that all those nice retro-dials become useless, since you can control many settings via command dial, just like on a DSLR.

If you are interested to know, how it works, then make sure to check out Ming Cai Youtube VideoCustomize the Command Dials on Fujifilm Cameras to Get DSLR-like Control

And since it just fits so well in today’s article…. as a hardcore analgoue-like controls freak like myself, I share again Palle Schultz Video down below ;)

A Love Letter to Fujifilm in Times or Mirrorless Wars

The video above has been shared by Fujifilm UK on their youtube channel here for the World Photography Day 2018.

I really like it, because none of the photographers interviewed mentions for a single time the word “Fujifilm” or “megapixel“. They “just” tell us what photography means to them.

Just the fact that Fujifilm shares such videos on their channels, denotes a photographic culture, that, so they tell me, is lacking in some other brands.

Fujifilm X-H1 Wins EISA Award 2018 for Best Mirrorless Camera. But Can We Trust Any Award and Do They Make Sense?

Let’s Talk Awards

It’s time to say a few things about these awards, and to start a debate:

  • Do they make sense?
  • Can we trust any award?

Can we Trust any Award?

Let me explain….

When a few months ago Fujifilm did not win anything at the TIPA awards (except for the Instax SQ10), I tried to understand why this happened.

Did Fujifilm products simply suck, or is the story a bit more complicated?

So here is what I’ve heard:

If a company wins an award for a certain product, then this company must pay TIPA, EISA or other award companies thousands of dollars if they want to get the license to use the winning-logos for their products.

This could explain why TIPA, EISA & Co always have so many categories.

It’s a big business! Which isn’t bad per se…

But now I ask you guys…

… if a company decides to stop paying for award licenses, because they prefer to invest their money into real R&D for their cameras and lenses, how likely is it that this specific company will win something the following year?

More precisely…

… if an award company has the feeling (or even knows) that a certain company won’t pay for licenses anymore, then will they prefer to give more awards to products of other companies, which they know are more willing to pay for them?

I’m sure not… I mean, I am sure they will just reward the cameras and lenses that deserve it, even if they know (or think) they won’t be able to sell the licenses afterwards, because rewarding the gear that deserves it, is more important than making money by selling as many licenses as possible.

Or do you guys think differently than me? ;)

Do these Awards Make Sense?

How important are these awards, in the era of internet?

I mean, everybody is reviewing everything on websites and on youtube. People can easily read and compare hundreds of reviews, as well as select reviewers they trust and value their (free, unpaid and independent) opinion.

I wonder, does Fujifilm really need that nice logo to display at the photography fairs and magazines under their product that says “best camera in category xy“?

Also here… I would like to hear your opinion.

may you have a rewarding day ;)
