Fujifilm X-T2 Successor to be Called Fujifilm X-T2S – UPDATE: Changed to X-H1

Fujifilm X-T2s

UPDATE: Fujifilm changed the name from X-T2s to X-H1. All rumored specs remain the same

Ok guys… here is another nice rumor for you.

I would like to inform you that the successor of the Fujifilm X-T2 will be called Fujifilm X-T2s .

At this point, some of you might remember, when I once said that Fujifilm will release an X-Pro1s, which evidently never materialized. Fujifilm even had working prototypes of it, as they officially showed here, but then they scratched the concept in the last second, skipped it, and waited for the X-Pro2 to be ready.

At this stage, though, I don’t think the X-T2s will have the same fate of the X-Pro1s. Fujifilm seems very convinced of the project, and this makes me very confident to share it here on FujiRumors.

Now, I like to imagine many of you guys somewhere on holidays, relaxing with a beer on a beach or admiring a great panorama from the top of a mountain. And I really do not want to disturb you too much.

But I have the feeling that it could be worth to tune into FujiRumors now and then also from your holidays in the next couple of weeks. Sure, I’m aware that no rumor on earth can beat a good beer on the beach, but I’m working hard to try to give you a little fun time also here on FujiRumors ;) .

Fuji Guys Fujifilm X-T20 Vs. X-T2, Which One Should you Buy?

The Fuji Guys compare the Fujifilm X-T20 vs the X-T2.

If you are new to the Fujifilm world, and would like to get a basic overview over the main differences between these two cameras, then you might find this video useful.

Right at the beginning, Billy says that the Fujifilm X-T2 and X-T20 are their most popular cameras (but we know the Fujifilm X-E3 will change that :) )

The video was shot in 4K with the Fujifilm X-T20 (4K with half line skipping, so no full resolution, but also no crop). Oh, and Billy, keep up your fight with Japan for 4K in X-Pro2 :) . You can check out the full Fuji Guys video on youtube here.

IBIS (in body image stabilization) Coming to Future Fujifilm X Cameras – Trusted Source

Fujifilm X Cameras with IBIS
Fujifilm X Cameras with IBIS

What Fujifilm Managers Say

I know what you think: “But didn’t a Fujifilm manager tell us in this interview, that IBIS is not compatible with Fujifilm X-mount?”

Yep, that’s true. The manager said:

“Our XF mount is not compatible with IBIS […] the amount of light at the corners is reduced when the sensor is shifted. We could correct it digitally, but we don’t want to do it: we don’t want to compromise our image quality.”

But, well…. today I will tell you a different story…

What Trusted Source Says

The rumor is as simple as that: Fujifilm is right now working to bring IBIS to future X-mount cameras.

The Market Wants IBIS (in body image stabilization)

Just like “weather sealing”, also “IBIS” is becoming more and more important for photographers. Fujifilm’s main mirrorless competitors (Sony, Panasonic, Olympus) all offer IBIS… and it has become a strong selling point!

Now, personally, features like “weather sealing” and “IBIS” are not primary reasons for me to get a camera or not. More important, for me, are lens line-up and ergonomics for example.

But I understand that IBIS can be indeed a very handy tool, especially if you use a lot of old adapted glass and shoot video with OIS-less glass.

So if you ask me, then yes, it’s a good move for Fujifilm to offer IBIS in future.

But Fujifilm has to give us good IBIS that deals very well with the shortcomings the Fujifilm manager mentioned here… and every camera manufacturer is actually dealing the same issues.

NOTE: Canon and Nikon say IBIS works not as good as Lens Stabilization – Read more here.

How Reliable is this News Rumor?

This rumor comes from a trusted source. This is why I personally take no grain of salt at all. I’m 100% sure that these are Fujifilm’s (current) plans.

I also know that Fujifilm can change plans anytime, but I have the feeling that this won’t happen this time.

IBIS will come… and actually, this Fujifilm camera already has IBIS ;)

The Calm before the Storm…

I have the feeling that great times could be ahead of us… and summer holidays or not, I will invest all my best (and my time) to keep you guys up to date with everything. So stay tuned on FujiRumors via Facebook, RSS-feed and Twitter.

TheCameraStoreTV Fujifilm X-T20 Review: “A Fantastic Winner. Beautiful, Capable and Affordable”

TheCameraStoreTV tested the Fujifilm X-T20 on the streets of Tokyo and the Fujifilm Taiwa factory!

Here are some excerpts… but check out the full field test at their youtube channel

  • Intuitive and fast to handle
  • very fast focussing
  • smaller and lighter than X-T2, which is why it makes it more appealing for travels
  • touch screen “fast enough”
  • delay when switching between EVF and LCD… could be faster
  • Great video, but 4K not as sharp as on X-T2 (NOTE: I remind you that the X-T20 uses “half line skipping ” in 4K, as opposed to the X-T2, which reads every line on the sensor. This is to prevent the smaller X-T20 to overheat. Fuji Guy Bully says here 4K with half line skipping is technically possible also for X-Pro2)
  • A fantastic winner, that is beautiful, capable and affordable

P.S.: Episode filmed on the Fujifilm X-T2.
P.P.S.: The Fujifilm GFX 50S episode will follow soon
P.P.P.S.: this blog post was written right after I left the eye doctor for a visit. I can hardly read what I wrote, so pardon me if you will find even more typos than usual… but for you guys, full dedication… I’ll write even half-blind :)
