RoboSHOOT Plus Released with Fuji HSS/TTL Support :: How Fujifilm Survived the Digital Age :: GFX and X100F First Looks & More

How Fujifilm Survived the Digital Age

How Fujifilm survived the digital age with an unexpected makeover. See the video at video.toggle: “min 35:00 – “I had announced that we would protect the photograph culture. No matter how small it gets…we might downsize production, but we would keep the culture alive and protect it. The culture of photographs is one that mankind can do without…No matter what we will not get rid of photography.”

GFX VIDEO MIX

INTERVIEW

ThaiDphoto interviewed Fujifilm Top Manager Makoto Oishi. It’s 50 minutes long, with lots of time lost for translation from Thai to English. But here are the main points:

  • Why Fuji switched Full Frame? They didn’t want to cannibalize APS-C. They investigated also Full Frame, but at the end went Medium Format for the ultimate image quality
  • 4:3 aspect sensor is good for multi-aspect choosing by user.
  • the most difficult part of development was keeping the GFX size small and lightweight
  • Bigger sensor usually leads to more chromatic aberration. But Fujifilm should be able to keep the same level of chromatic aberration of their APS-C cameras.
  • If Fuji would chose leaf shutter (update: meaning the GFX would have no focal plane shutter at all), then the GFX would be limited to leaf shutter lenses. But with focal plane shutter, GFX can support all kind of lenses, from old manual focus lenses to leaf shutter lenses. And leaf shutter can not go very high speed, like the focal plane shutter. The manager considers this last one the biggest advantage.
  • X100 Full Frame? No plans for now says the manager “but maybe in the futurecustomer demand or market demand… I don’t know” (min. 32:12)
  • Q: Do you plan to update X-T2 Firmware with new function that are in the GFX? A: I can’t say now, but we always plan updates in X-T2 and X-Pro2.
  • A radio flash system in the future? “hm.. yeah, we need, we know the request”

BREAKING RUMOR :: Fujifilm X80 Coming Second Half of 2017

Fujifilm X80

Time to retire (already) for the [shoplink 54269 ebay]Fujifilm X70[/shoplink]. I’m receiving several hints (thanks a lot for your help) that Fujifilm is already working on the Fujifilm X80 and plans to release it in the second half of this year (2017)!

The little Fujifilm X70 was Fujifilm’s first camera featuring a flippy selfie touch screen and was launched along with the X-Pro2 in January 2016. Sadly, the X70 was a failure for Fujifilm and is now already discontinued. The pre-orders were so low, that Fujifilm even lowered its price tag just 4 days after its announcement.

However, it seems that Fujifilm is convinced of the concept (super compact APS-C camera), and will give it a refresh quite soon with the Fujifilm X80.

So how will it look like? I’ll work on it… and if you can help me to find the right path, feel free to contact me via the anonymous rumor box (if you use a nick name, that would be great) or via email at fujirumor@gmail.com (use a fake email if you prefer).

You can contact me anytime also via private message on Facebook and Twitter.

Zack Arias Impresses His Audience with ISO 12,800 and Crazy Sharp Samples Taken with FUJIFILM GFX at his GPP Stage Talk

GFX Launch NightZach Arias – X-Photographer

Geplaatst door Fujifilm Middle East op woensdag 15 februari 2017

As you read here, Zack Arias is considering to sell all his X-gear to get the GFX.

In his recent GPP talk, he introduces the GFX in an interesting one hour video. Here some excerpts:

  • He will start telling you why he chose Medium Format and his first steps in with Medium Market.
  • He goes through his personal issues that, amongst the others, also influenced his work…. and shares his way out of that.
  • At minute 31:00 he starts sharing his recent work with the GFX
  • 32:25: He shares pictures that his 18 years old son took with the GFX.
  • 35:00: “I’ve shot every format, but Medium Format has this look. It’s how the highlights and shadows are retained, the soft transitions between those two, how the focus falls off. I can’t describe steroscopic bokeh at all, but I can see it. […] I want that different look.”
  • 39:00. Pixel Peeping Time… and you will hear the people just say “WOW!!” when they see the amazing sharpness and details.
  • 42:30: The MF Phase One is amazing. Has 1 AF point, though. He goes at 1,600 ISO at max with his Phase One now.
  • 43:55: Zack shows an image taken at ISO 12,800 (JPEG)… and again another WOW goes through the audience.
  • 48:00: A Fuji Representative says that Capture One will support the GFX

Fujifilm GFX :: Impressive Backlit Dynamic Range, Crazy Sharpness and Fabulous Bokeh + Manager Says it Has Two X-Processor PRO!

DUAL X-PROCESSOR PRO?

The General Manager for Fujifilm UK, Theo Georghiadesis says at camerajabber (starts 3:21 – video here):

The GFX has the same processor as the X-T2 and X-Pro2, actually it has got two of those processors, which makes it more powerful and much more responsive in terms of focussing compared to other medium format cameras.”

UPDATE: Some of you think Theo was refering to the fact that it has a dual core processor. This applies also to the X-T2 and X-Pro2. But as Theo said in his sentence, he really seems to indicate that the GFX, as opposed to the X-T2, has 2 X-Processor Pros”

DYNAMIC RANGE + SUPER SHARP + FABULOUS BOKEH + 3D POP

Here are two more samples shared at the GFX facebook group, showing the impressive sharpness of the GFX and it’s dynamic range capability:
