I know, Fujifilm said it in the official Press Release and all the stores also say the same: the Fujifilm X-T2 shipping will start on the 8th of September (that’s the “shipping embargo” date).
However, a trusted source would like me to share with all of you, that Fujifilm decided to start shipping the Fujifilm X-T2 already in late August.
Of course, I never doubt what my trusted sources tell me. In fact, it already happened in the past, that they shared information with us, that contraddicted everything that Fujifilm has said, announced and even shown to the world… and yet our sources where right ;) .
Now, since this trusted source contacts me anonymously via rumor box (using a nick name) I’d like to ask it, if this is valid for all the world, or just for some countries.
KEEP IN MIND: shipping might start late August, but it will take longer until the X-T2 is marked by stores as “in stock“.
Why is the X-T2 shipping earlier?
But why is the X-T2 shipping earlier than originally announced by Fujifilm?
I don’t know it, but maybe the Firmware is now finalized. Hence, Fujifilm can now upload it on all the X-T2’s, put that beauty in a fancy box and send it straight to X-shooters all over the globe!
Or maybe the Fujifilm X-T2 pre-orders were lower than Fujifilm expected, so that the company can start shipping the X-T2 earlier than expected.
But that’s just all speculation. What matters is that, those, who pre-ordered very early, might get their X-T2 already within the end of August…. if no last minute bug is found ;)

Before I get to the point of this posting, I will give a little bit of background to add some perspective to my thoughts. I started my photographic journey way back in the film days. I shot for many years for a Stock Library in Sydney Australia. You know the deal – the generic girl with glossy white teeth eating a red shiney apple, or the squeaky clean couple with their 2.2 kids having a picnic under the perfect umbrella-shaped tree. All fairly boring stuff, bit it kept my artistic flair alive and helped to pay the bills. I still worked as a teacher (my main source of income), but I was able to make a healthy supplement to my earnings by selling ‘stock’. Back in those days the Nikon F3, then the F4 were the weapons of choice. Due to family reasons, I had a break from photography for about 10 years, and of course when I returned everything had gone digital.
For the last 6 years now I have travelled Asia extensively (usually for 3 months of the year), shooting Fine Art images for my website. My recent weapons of choice were the Nikon D700 and D3X. After thinking long and hard how I could lighten my burden from dragging these huge DSLR’s around in the tropical heat of Asia, I eventually threw caution to the wind and in 2012/13 I sold all of my Nikons and lenses and bought a Fuji X100, X-Pro1 and some lenses. On a good day, the X100 was just OK, but the X-Pro1 experiment was an unmitigated disaster. That trip to Asia in 2012 was highlighted with mutterings and expletives all aimed at the Version 1 Firmware of my X-Pro1 and its lack of focusing ability. I returned back home with not many useable photos and immediately (at great expense), sold all of the Fuji gear and bought another D3X with a selection of lenses.

DigitalRev (without Kai) shared its Fujifilm X-T2 First Impressions on youtube.
I recommend you to go directly to minute 6:00 to see how the X-T2 compares to the X-Pro2 when tracking a flying drone. The X-T2 has been set to Electronic Shutter and 14fps shooting (no blackout).
From their conclusions by tracking the drone:
“It’s amazing. Only 1 shot was out of focus, and it’s purely my fault! With this Autofocus System, Fujifilm has a winner in their hands! I had a lot more keepers with the X-T2 compared to the X-Pro2.
For Sport fans: Get excited! The X-T2 is exactly what it promises… and a little bit more“
They also say the larger Viewfinder and refresh rate helps so much to better track the subject.
I remind you that Fujifilm said that the X-Pro2 will get the new improved AF-algorythm of the X-T2 in a Firmware udpate on October. So I guess there won’t be such a significant AF-discrepancy between the two flagships after the udpate. However, keep in mind that the new Fuji X-T2 AF-Tracking Custom Settings will not be implemented on the X-Pro2 via Firmware update. So for sports, you better go for the X-T2.
Fujifilm just released the Bug Fix Firmware for the XF90mm (donwload here) and XF16-55mm (donwload here).
The phenomenon is fixed that the LCD on the camera blinks on & off after the camera is turned on and then a “Lens Error” message is indicated if the upgrade is conducted with a camera whose firmware is the previous version.
