Fujifilm X-Pro4 not Coming in 2024: The End of Line or the Beginning of Something Very Special?

There is a Future…

As we told you from a beautiful lake before jumping into ice cold water: there won’t be any Fujifilm X-Pro4 in 2024.

Sadly many interpreted it as me saying that there will never be any Fujifilm X-Pro3 successor ever.

But as I told you from an ugly parking lot while waiting for my car to get fixed, I think that Fujifilm will never discontinue the X-Pro line, because it is a very prestigious line for Fujifilm. It was Fujifilm’s first mirrorless interchangeable lens camera and as such it is symbolically very important for Fujifilm.

And recently Fuji Guy Billy seemed to confirm that a Fujifilm X-Pro3 replacement with 5th generation goodness will come. It will just take a bit of time.

And he also said: it has to be something very special.

… and it’s Very Special?

So if all the 5th generation goodness is ready, why does it still take so long?

Well, let’s see some possibilities

  1. SIMPLE ANSWER: there is parts shortage. Fujifilm decided to use those parts for cameras that are more successful (X100VI, X-T5, etc), and the Fujifilm X-Pro4 must wait until the peak demand for those cameras is over
  2. BILLY’s PATH: Fuji Guy Billy said the X-Pro4 has to be something very special. Could it be a new design experiment (for example a screen-less camera). A monochrome or XPan sensor? Will they get rid of the mechanical shutter and go for a 26MP stacked sensor? Anything else that could make it “special”?

I personally hope that the result of this long wait will be a monochrome Fujifilm X-Pro. But again, that’s just a mere and random wish of mine (no rumor).

Feel free to let us know what your best guess is in regards to what’s going on with the long awaited Fujifilm X-Pro4 and why it’s taking Fujifilm so long.

Top 3 News in February that Passed Almost Unnoticed (but Shouldn’t)

I recently published the usual top 10 articles of the month article (for February), and I believe three news are missing in there, that should have gained much more attention than what they did.

And I get it: we had Fujifilm X-Pro4 rumors, X100VI announcement, Fujifilm X-T40 rumors and more. So these “smaller” news tends to get lost in the buzz of the big rumors and announcements.

But I really think you guys should not miss out on them, hence we are going to share them in this dedicated article

Huge possible news for GFX

As a GFX shooter myself, this is one bit of news that I have waited for many years: the possibility expressed by Sigma CEO to offer autofocus lenses for the GFX system.

This would be HUUUGE!

Tamron Finally Gets It

Finally Tamron seems to understand: they need to put an aperture ring on their lenses!

Future X mount Lenses

Fujifilm has officially listed 10 lenses that they are currently considering to eventually make in future. No all can come, but maybe some. And they did ask 200 journalists to vote their favorite lenses.

Well, FujiRumors thought that 200 votes might not be enough. So we launched a survey and asked you guys which lenses you’d like to get.

We are currently at 6K+ votes, but ideally we should break the 10K+ mark.

The more vote, the more Fujifilm will take our results seriously.

This is the Sensor of the Fujifilm X100VI

Back in April 2023, I made a list of which sensor I’d like in which future Fujifilm camera.

And I am happy to hear from trusted and new sources (THANKS!!!), that Fujifilm fulfilled my wish in terms of sensor for the Fujifilm X100VI.

So which one is it?

Well, according to trusted as well as new sources, Fujifilm will put the lovely 40MP X-Trans V sensor into the Fujifilm X100VI.

The additional resolution will allow you to crop in more into the files, which can be useful at times and just a bit more of flexibility to the fixed lens concept of the X100.

Of course provided that the lens is actually capable of resolving all those 40MP, which I have no doubts about, because it is a fairly new lens (refreshed with the X100V) and because I doubt Fujifilm would have used the 40MP sensor on the Fujifilm X100VI, if the lens would not have been capable to take advantage of it.

And since the lens on the X100VI is the same of the X100V, you’ll also be able to use the Fujifilm WCL-X100 and TCL-X100 conversion lenses on the Fujifilm X100VI.

So, more crop capability plus conversion lenses give a little bit extra flexibility to the Fujifilm X100VI.

And also the dynamic range will profit from the new 40MP sensor a bit.

Fujifilm Firmware Updates for Several Cameras (X-T5 included), XF16-55, FT-XH and Promises More Firmware Love to Come in 2024

Fujifilm has released firmware updates for Fujifilm X-T5, X-T4, X-T3, X-H2, X-H2S, X-S20, X-S10 and XF16-55mmF2.8 as well as the Fujifilm FT-XH File transmitter grip.

It’s mainly (but not only) a video centric update and more lenses will get the same update in February (XF16-80mmF4 and XF18-120mmF4).

Moreover, in their recent official X Summit announcement, Fujifilm said they are “currently considering further enhancements“, which I hope will translate also on firmware love for those, who mainly use Fujifilm cameras for stills.

Fujifilm X100V Discontinued at Several Stores: Giving Up on X100V Delivery and Getting Ready for Fujifilm X100VI?

Fujifilm Gives Up on X100V

Japanese stores are usually the first to mark items as discontinued or in general giving us indications on what’s happening with certain gear.

The X-T4, X-E4, GFX100, XF56/F1.2 and much more gear got first marked as discontinued in Japan before anywhere else on the world.

And today we get another significant hint: many stores in Japan have now completely delisted the Fujifilm X100V from their stores, such as Map Camera, Bic Camera, and Yodobashi Camera. Some stores mark it as “we finished sale“.

It looks like Fujifilm has at this point just given up delivering all those Fujifilm X100V people have still on order, at least in Japan.

And it’s not the first time: the same thing happened with the Fujifilm X-E4, where lots of people had one on order, patiently waited to get it shipped, but then out of nowhere Fujifilm canceled all orders and discontinued the X-E4.

The Last Samples

In USA the Fujifilm X100V is still listed at stores.

At Amazon you can find some samples in stock (at the time of this post), but at a higher price.

But I guess it won’t take long at this point that also US stores will mark the Fujifilm X100V as discontinued.

A Bad Move?

The X100V is huge missed opportunity for Fujifilm. They could have made tons of money with it, but just were incapable of manufacturing enough sample to meet even a small fraction of its massive demand.

To me it looks like Fujifilm just gave up on shipping the X100V at this point.

My guess (not rumor) is that they decided to use all the parts they have still available for X100V and re-use whatever they can of those pieces for the manufacturing of the Fujifilm X100VI (for example the lens, which is the same on both cameras).

I am not sure this is a smart move: I mean, give up on lots of money you can make right now in the hope to make money with another model in future. The best solution would have been to just finally solve that chronic parts issue, which other manufacturers seem to have fixed but Fujifilm still struggles a lot with.
