Voigtländer Nokton 35mmF1.2: Electronic Contacts, Full Specs, Press Release and Official Sneak Peek

We’ve shared hands on images of the new Voigtländer Nokton 35mm f/1.2 for Fujifilm X mount earlier today.

Now we spotted an official teaser to this lens at the Voigtländer website. It’s in German, so I’ll share first the google translated version and then the original one in German.

Also, a Polish distributor has shared the full specs and press release, so we share that one too here on FujiRumors (google translated via optyczne).

Also in German you can find the full press release at photoscala (images below).

My First Wedding Photography Adventure is Coming and This is the Fujifilm Gear I’ll Use

Maybe you remember.

Back in January 19, 2020, a very dear friend asked me if I can photograph part of his wedding and I accepted. You can read the story here. But we all know what happened in 2020, and the wedding had to be postponed.

But now time has come. In just a few days, I will grab my gear and photograph his wedding.

  • Risking my Friendship?

When I initially accepted, I was pumped and excited about it and I reported about it on FujiRumors. But as soon as I did, some of you guys warned me that I am putting my friendship at risk, which caused a little bit of panic in me.

But then I thought back at what we lived together. Lots of great moments, but we also crossed the darkest hours together, which are too sad to touch on in this article, but I briefly mentioned something in the comments here and here.

What binds us is too strong to be put in danger by some eventually not so fantastic pictures.

And also, I have been very clear to him and his wife: I’ve never photographed an event like this.

I mean, I know I have excellent cameras and lenses, I know how to use them, I understand photography, but this does not make me a wedding photographer. So do not expect anything near to the professional results of the official photographer.

And speaking of the official wedding photographer…

  • The Official Photographer is the Boss – Don’t Stand in His Way!

One more thing gives me huge confidence: they do have an official photographer. He will be the boss and under no circumstance I will interfere with his work. He is the Pro, he has the skills and experience.

So whatever I shoot, however my images turn out, the most important moments of the day will be captured by him.

What I have been asked for is to just photograph the preparations to the wedding of the husband. Hence i will go to his home, take a few pictures how he gets ready for the wedding etc. And then, after dinner, the official photographer will leave and I will be taking some pictures of the people chilling, talking, dancing etc.

Plus, without interfering in no way with the work of the official photographer, during the day I want to try to get some candid shots of the guest interacting with each other and so forth.

Animal Autofocus Already Available on Fujifilm Cameras, just not X/GFX! A Kaizen Request to Fujifilm!

These are crazy firmware days, great joys thanks to massive new firmware and some worries due to faulty firmware.

So let’s talk firmware today.

One of the autofocus features where Sony and Canon are running away to the competition is “animal autofocus“.

And while it is probably not a feature that most of us would massively use, it would be definitely still nice to have.

Now, the FujiRumors community often asked me if Fujifilm plans to ever such a feature in future.

Well, let me say this first.

Among all camera manufacturers, Fujifilm was actually the very first company to offer something like that, with the Fujifilm FinePix F80EXR.

As you can read in the product description here:

For those who enjoy the company of four-legged friends, the F80EXR has Pet Detection, allowing users the ability to detect up to 10 faces of dogs or cats and automatically optimize the focus. The F80EXR is programmed to recognize 57% of the Fédération Cyno Logique Internationale (FCI) Registered Dogs, 80% of the Top 20 Dogs in the American Kennel Club (AKC) Ranking and 60% of The Cat Fancier’s Association (CFA) breeds. Pet Detection works by matching various dog or cat data of facial parts with patterns to detect the dog or cat being photographed.

So, considering that Fujifilm already had a similar feature, I am confident that they will offer that in future also on X and GFX series cameras, maybe extended to birds and other animals. Sure, it’s not a rumor, but looking at Fuji’s history makes me confident this is going to happen in future.

Mid 2021 Rumor Check: Fujifilm X-H2, GFX50SII, Future Lenses and More (with Reliability Ranking)

Half a year has passed.

Lots of rumors have been shared already (and many more will come ;) ).

However, there is something I never do: rank the rumors in a reliability ranking.

I hate to do that, as an anonymous rumor is not necessarily less reliable than a trusted rumor. There is much more that needs to be checked in order to determine if a rumor is reliable or not. And also, something that is rocksolid at some point, may become less sure later on as Fujifilm changes plans.

That’s why I hate to rank rumors.

However, it is something you request me to do, hence, 1 or 2 times a year I bend to your will and do just that.

So, you can find the rumor-ranking down below.

Also, we will check back and see which rumors FujiRumors got right and which wrong, so that you guys can judge my work and decide if your time on FR was well spent or not. I will be extremely brutal to myself and move in the wrong section every ever so minimal error I made, even though it was accurate at the time of sharing.

Two more things:

  • Included in the list some of the fake rumors circulating around that FujiRumors had to debunk.
  • If you want to get a timeline on when the products will come, check out this post.

One last note: Back in November 2020 we shared an article, where Sigma itself teased Fujifilm X mount lenses coming 2021. And as if that was not enough, they teased them again in February 2021. In between those Sigma teasers, on December 14, 2020, FujiRumors shared a rumor that Sigma has indeed plans to release Fujifilm X mount lenses. This rumor is not included in the list below, as it from 2020. If you want to check back the 2020 rumors, make sure to read this article.

So let’s start:

  • 49 rumors shared in 2021 so far (many more to come)
  • 27 rumors still to be verified
  • 21 correct rumors out of 22 verifiable rumors
  • 1 wrong rumor out of 22 verifiable rumors (I told you I’ll be brutal to myself ;))
  • 95,45% correct rumors

We already reported last month here that Nitcore annouced the new Nitecore NC-BP003 (equivalent to the Fujifilm NP-W235 for GFX100S and X-T4) and NP-BP004 batteries (equivalent to the Fujifilm NP-W126S for most Fujifilm X cameras).

Now you can find both batteries on Amazon, with the Nitecore NP-W235 already shipping and the Nitecore NP-W126S listed but not shipping yet.

How Fujifilm Could Improve their Fujinon XF Lens Roadmap

FR-reader Roberto contacted me with a long and very interesting email regarding on how Fujifilm should develop their lens lineup in future. In fact, I thought it is a pity if I’d discuss this topic only via email with him, so I’d love to extend the conversation to the entire FujiRumors community.

Also, it is a known fact that Fujifilm reads FujiRumors, not only thanks to the fact that high ranked Japanese manager “love” Fujirumors, but also because they look at our survey and use them internally, in some cases even implemented 1:1 the lens wishes the FujiRumors community wanted in their official roadmap.

No wonder, as there is no place on the web that connects so many Fujifilm shooters like here on FujiRumors.

FujiRumors is the best place for Fujifilm to get online feedback from their customers, and knowing this, we take full advantage of it, also by sharing articles like the one Roberto wrote for us, which I think contains some interesting feedback that will end up discussed internally by Fujifilm, and who knows, maybe at some point will also become reality.

So, Roberto did his job wonderfully, I do mine and share it here… but now it’s your time to do yours, by reading the article and discussing it in the comments.

LOVING X-TRANS: Landslide Victory for Fujifilm X-H2 with X-Trans V vs Bayer in Survey

Recently we reported that the Fujifilm X-E4 will be the last X series camera featuring an X-Trans IV sensor, and that the next camera to come will be the Fujifilm X-H2 in 2022.

However, at this point in time we can’t say if the Fujifilm X-H2 will feature an X-Trans sensor or an Bayer sensor.

To be honest, I have received an anonymous tip about it (thanks a lot!!!), but as usual here on FujiRumors we try to give it a quick double check first before sharing.

Until then, here are a few thoughts.

Personally I love the X-Trans sensor for its better performance at high ISO (better looking grain, less color noise), the sharpness boost it delivers and more.

But I am also not a blind fanboy and I am well aware that also the Bayer sensor has its significant strengths, such as 20 to 30%a lower power consumption which leads to less heat generation, meaning you can push the camera more in terms of recording times for example. Also with Bayer sensors, stuff like digital image stabilization and pixel shift is easier to achieve. And last but not least, Bayer is more affordable!

I have elaborated in depth the Pros and Cons of Bayer and X-Trans in this article.

So, while I am in the group of people, who hopes the Fujifilm X-H2 will get an X-Trans sensor, I would totally understand if Fujifilm would go Bayer instead.

The thing is this: reading the comments, I always thought I am in the minority when it comes to the X-Trans vs Bayer debate, meaning I read more comments of people who want to get rid of X-Trans than comments of those, who want to keep it.

But a recently survey I’ve launched here, shows it is completely the opposite.

Of the Fujifilm X shooters reading FujiRumors

  • 51% want a Fujifilm X-H2 with X-Trans
  • 24% want a Fujifilm X-H2 with Bayer

The rest of the readers are either fine with both options (18%) or have not yet formed a final opinion on this (7%).

That’s a landslide victory for Fujifilm X-Trans!

And while I am with you guys on this one, if Fujifilm decided to go Bayer, it would probably not be the biggest of all drama, if they were able to take the most out of the advantages it offers, not in terms of image quality, were X-Trans is superior, but in terms of implementing new features such as digital image stabilization, pixel shift and more.

Finding out which sensor it will be, is my top priority (thanks again for the anonymous tip at this point).

The answer, my friends, will be shared hopefully sooner rather than later here on FujiRumors.
